Wikipedia:Biographical optout
The following is a proposed Wikipedia policy, guideline, or process. The proposal may still be in development, under discussion, or in the process of gathering consensus for adoption. |
|
This page in a nutshell: The universal opt-out states that upon request of any living human, that person's biographical article on Wikipedia shall be deleted. |
This policy goes into effect on July 1, 2013. Should apparent conflict between this and the expansive WLP:BLP occur, WP:OPTOUT takes precedence until the discrepancy is resolved.
WP:OPTOUT, the "universal biography-of-living-persons opt out," signifies that upon request of any living human, that person's biographical article on Wikipedia shall be deleted. The request may be issued via unequivocal language in any "reliable source" (WP:V) to include self-published sources such as a personal website or any of various social networking webportals.
Upon spotting the request in the reliable source, any editor may immediately blank the article's entire contents and replace them with the BLP subject's particular opt-out quote and corresponding hyperlink. The blanked article then enters a ten-day review period in which any editor may examine and challenge the reliability of the source. Should the opt-out source go unchallenged or go not-convincingly-challenged during the review period, a Wikipedia administrator with the advanced "oversight" privilege shall eradicate the biography's previous text from the Wikipedia record to the fullest extent possible.
The subject's opt-out quote and link, along with the article's title (typically the person's name) shall remain on Wikipedia in perpetuity as the sole content of the listing.
