BLP requires you to cite reliable sources for claims about living people

It does not seem to me that anyone has done a good job of trying to explain this to you, but the policy on biographies of living persons applies to all pages on Wikipedia. That means if you are making a claim about an identifiable living person, even if only on the talk page of an article or another user's talk page, then you should have a reliable source to back up the claim. Preferably, you should either cite the source when making the claim or be referring to sourced information already within an article. Claims made about living people that are not backed by a reliable source may be removed, even if those claims are made on a talk page and admins are allowed to block or sanction you for such claims. Such a policy exists to ensure that Wikipedia does not host or spread information that is defamatory or invasive of a living person's privacy.

At any time should you feel like raising a question relating to a living person, be sure to see if there are reliable sources already covering the issue and cite them when raising the issue. ensure that any claims you make are explicitly backed by the source as well rather than inferences. Be careful about sources too since claims about living people have much stricter sourcing requirements. The rules may seem a little restrictive, but they exist to protect people from defamation or invasion of privacy. Feel free to ask me for further details about the policy if you have trouble understanding, but please avoid saying anything that could be taken as a reference to a specific claim you have made or question you raised regarding a living individual.--The Devil's Advocate tlk. cntrb. 03:37, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

AE request closed

I have closed the arbitration enforcement request against you, the result being that you are admonished for the violation of your topic ban and for repeating a BLP violation. Please be aware that you remain banned from anything that could be reasonably construed to be connected to GamerGate or people associated with it. Further, if somebody suggests that a claim or a statement is in violation of BLP (if you haven't already, you should read WP:BLP), I strongly suggest you discuss the issue without repeating the claim. You should be aware that if you end up at AE again in the near future, the result is likely to be an indefinite block. Hopefully that won't be necessary, though. René Bazinet

Maybe you should add an (a) before the word "mime," for the first sentence of that second section to make more sense... In any case, I am the author of IMDb's bio of René Bazinet, so please do not use any of its contents - or my stored images in Wikimedia Commons - for any further edits of this Wikipedia article. Thank you. Blythe Spirit (talk) 14:29, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

René Bazinet Photos

Please refrain using my pictures of René Bazinet, without my consent. Common courtesy and consideration should be exercised in such cases and the ownership of a photographer’s work should be respected. I had previously composed and posted a comprehensive profile/bio, of René, only to experience others making inappropriate edits and finally being notified by an administrator that due to a lack of published references it didn’t meet Wikipedia standards, in any event. I had originally added the images, which are copyrighted, to accompany my composition, but was under the misconception that others could only use them with my permission. The policies regarding permission and image utilization were ambiguously stated and I did not interpret them correctly, as it turned out. Neither was I aware that once they were added to Wikimedia I relinquished the opportunity to remove them, from that site. However, after a talk with my lawyer, who assured me that your organization is not entitled to keep them, rather than file a contentious lawsuit in order to protect my work - by demanding their removal - I decided not to press the issue. I’m sure you can understand why I wouldn’t want my photographic work to be used by unauthorized people to represent their text, especially, after I deleted all of my unappreciated contributions from the René Bazinet page. Thanking you, in advance, for honoring my wishes about not using the René Bazinet images without my express approval, which I'm disinclined to give under the above mentioned circumstances. Helvetica article

Thanks for spotting that. I've been trying to upgrade the Helvetica article and that undue to me - it's hardly notable that government forms are printed in this font besides noting it. I've decided to delete that section. Blythwood (talk) 06:51, 11 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Search Community Survey

The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has appointed a committee to lead the search for the foundation’s next Executive Director. One of our first tasks is to write the job description of the executive director position, and we are asking for input from the Wikimedia community. Please take a few minutes and complete this survey to help us better understand community and staff expectations for the Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director.

Thank you, The Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Search Steering Committee via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:48, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It looks like you're adding forced image resizing to a few articles. Please don't do this, as it overrides the options that users set in their preferences. For very small screens, a 250 pixel image can be huge, and they may have set their default size to something much smaller. You can read more at WP:IMGSIZE, which discourages this practice. New Page Reviewing

Hello, Neptune's Trident.

As one of Wikipedia's most experienced editors,
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Thanks. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 00:33, 19 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Merry Christmas!

I'm wishing you a Merry Christmas, because that is what I celebrate. If you don't like Christmas or just don't celebrate it in any of its forms, then please accept a generic "Happy Holidays". If you celebrate no holidays at this time of year, then hopefully you will be satisfied with an even more generic "Season's Greetings".  :) BOZ (talk) 01:02, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

complete citations

Hello! Thanks for your contributions. I've noticed you have a pattern of identifying only the publisher or source of a reference, but not any of the other bibliographical details needed to ensure the source remains verifiable, e.g. author, title, publication, and date of publication (just like in school papers!). The Guardian" is vague and incomplete, while Livingstone, Josephine (28 April 2016). "The Regional Office Is Under Attack by Manuel Gonzales review". The Guardian. is a complete citation that allows readers to evaluate the source, even if they are offline. See WP:CITEHOW for more info. Without more complete info, we risk link rot: if a URL changes in the future (which is common), it could be much harder to locate the source or copies of it. There are easy ways to generate more complete citations: you can use the cite menus in the edit toolbar (where entering a URL will automatically generate a formatted citation); you can use citation templates like {{Cite news}} or {{Cite web}}; and/or you can use WP:REFILL (https://tools.wmflabs.org/refill/) on articles having bare URLs or references in the form <ref>[https://www.com Source title]</ref>.

On a separate, unrelated note, you might consider archiving your old Talk page discussions rather than deleting them. See User talk pagesHelp:Archiving a talk page. Cheers, --Animalparty! (talk) 00:08, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

a heads-up

World's Lamest Critic (WLC) started some malicious wikistalking of my contributions last fall, even claiming that the only reason I disagreed with him was that I was mentally ill.

I don't know if you are aware the WLC wiki-ID earned an indefinite block for outing the real world identities of several wikipedia contributors.

I have continued to get the same kind of wikistalking, from anonymous IP addresses. I suspect that WLC has not been able to let go of some kind of baseless grudge.

The reason I am contacting you is that I see that WLC complained about you, and filed AFD on articles you started. Have you been the target of wikistalking from anonymous IP addresses recently?

During the time they were wikihounding me I never noticed that WLC had a very short revision history, about 1200 edits. For someone with the kind of knowledge of wikidocuments it is another big clue that WLC was a sockpuppet. Did you ever wonder whether WLC was a sockpuppet?

If they were a sockpuppet, then I wonder who was the sockpuppetmaster? If WLC was a sockpuppet I think we need to assume that the sockpuppetmaster is still active under their main ID. Geo Swan (talk) 05:56, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
