[edit]Planning & staff
[edit]The manga series L'étranger de la Plage by Kanna Kii was originally published in the magazine On BLUE in 2013, and its sequel L'étranger du Zéphyr began serialization in the magazine in 2014; an audio drama adaptation was also produced in 2016. An animated film adaptation of the series was announced in October 2019 as the third film to be produced by Blue Lynx, a subsidiary of Fuji TV that produces films in the boys' love (male-male romance, also known as BL or yaoi) genre.

[edit]Voice acting
[edit]The majority of the Japanese voice cast for the 2016 audio drama adaptation of L'étranger de la Plage reprise their roles for The Stranger by the Shore.[b]
Music
[edit]The film's theme song "Zokkon" (ゾッコン, lit. 'From the Bottom of My Heart') is written and performed by the band Mono No Aware . According to Mono No Aware vocalist Shukei Tamaki, the producers of the film requested a song that was light and energetic rather than quiet and solemn; "Zokkon", a demo song Tamaki had written when he was 18 years old, was selected by the producers from several options submitted by the artist. Tamaki commented that the song "had so much energy that [he] couldn't write it now".[5]
The film's soundtrack is composed by Mina Kubota.
