Hey there, Do take a look at this portal. Well can you keep updating this portal on the regular intervals, I mean once in a week or somewhat more or less. Thanks, Sushant gupta 05:15, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Happy New Year

Hello Amartyabag, thanks for your wishes. Hope you have a great year ahead! — Lost(talk) 03:29, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Happy New Year

All the best in the new year. -- Samir धर्म 20:53, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Hmm

Well, both Netaji and Mother Teressa are pretty tough, because they are controversial, especially Netaji. I often do titbits on Netaji. But both the articles undergo pretty frequent edit-wars. Anyway, we can move.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:23, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Lage Raho...FAC

Hmm...! I am afraid it's a bit premarure. "Production" needs more stuffs. We talked about it in the talk page. As the nominator, please communicate with Classicfilms (talk · contribs) (the main author) and Nobleeagle (talk · contribs). Also please post notification in talk page of Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian cinema and update Wikipedia:Notice board for India-related topics. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:54, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

New Year wishes

Hi! Thanks for the wishes. Wish you the same (belated). Happy editing! --Victor 17:33, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Prasenjit Chatterjee

The Bengali scipt in the Prasenjit Chatterjee article should read Proshenjit Chottopadhyay, not Prosenjit Chatterjee. --WoodElf 07:00, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Koch dynasty

According to J N Sarkar, the first major Koch king was Biswa Singha who established the Koch kingdom, and not Maharaja Chandan, as you have edited in Koch dynasty. According to him, the first known Koch ruler is Haria Mandal, the father of Chandan. Also, the reign of Biswa Singha is given as (1515-1540), and not (1522-1554) as you write in Biswa Singha. Could you please confirm your sources?

I am using the chapter written by J N Sarkar in The Comprehensive History of Assam, Vol II, published by Publication Board, Assam.

Hi!

Hey Amartya, man what about starting a new wikiproject regarding Indian states. We can do it together. One more thing we two are quite young thats why our views may also be similar. Sushant gupta 08:30, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Re:Wikiproject

Hey Amartya, not all states, only few states have. The link you gave me is different. Actually I wanna make Himachal Pradesh related topics a feature for which I want to make a wikiproject on that. Well yes Wikiproject on West bengal already exist. I wish we could have done it together. But then also we can do a lot together. And one more thing which I am wishing to do, Uhhh... I think I should keep it a secret. Soon all Wikipedians will came to know about that on July 29th 2007 Thanks Sushant gupta 12:12, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 1 - January 2007

Project News
  • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
  • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

Hi!!!

Hey Amartaya, I won't be much active here on WP from 26th January to February 25th due to my final examinations. I will start up with the project after Feb. Thanks Sushant gupta 10:36, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Are you online

Hi Amartaya, are you online. Well I am starting up with the project rightnow. I'll complete as much as I would be able to. Lets us do one thing, I'll be creating a wikiproject on himachal and you too choose any of the topic which would be convinient and then we both can start up. Well we can keep updating each other after regular intervals. We can create something featured. Thanks Sushant gupta 10:04, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

I have created the wikiproject on Himachal Pradesh,

Take a look at this- Wikipedia:WikiProject Himachal Pradesh. Well you can create a wikiproject on Indian military or Indian wildlife or protected areas in India as you mentioned earlier. I'll be also participating with you. Sushant gupta 10:19, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Wow, that's quite fast

Hey Amartaya, I am highly impressed by you man, Wildlife of West Bengal, that seems to be something great. Well it matches a lot with Wildlife of himachal what I started, thats a plus point. Great job, Sushant gupta 10:39, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Nice job

Hey, nice job on wildlife. Thanks for the project. You should contact Pradiptaray (talk · contribs), if you have not already. He is a wildlife enthusiast, and created some nice articles and templates. Also you can contact Shyamal (talk · contribs) and Kalyanvarma (talk · contribs). There may be lots of other users, too. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 12:05, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

District templates

I have been working on the cities and towns for some time. I started with transfers of material from Ganeshbot and then got involved. Recently, I have put in a district template for all towns in West Bengal. Maybe, I have missed few here and there. Please have a look, particularly for North Bengal towns. Feel free to make corrections, as you deem fit. Regards -- P.K.Niyogi 03:22, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

I would be glad if u help us in Wikipedia: WikiProject Protected areas of India. None of us are much experienced, we need some experienced persons like u. Kindly review the Project and do some inclusion or correction if u feel, see its talk page for more. Specially with the templates. Thanks in advance. Amartyabag (Talk) 11:25, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. I will surely try to contribute and be an active participant to these pages. Let us resolve to make these pages really beautiful. --Bhadani 16:50, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Indian-protected-area-stub

Hi - it has come to our notice that you have recently created a new stub type. As it clearly states at WP:STUB, at the top of most stub categories, on the template page for new Wikiprojects and in many other places on Wikipedia, new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and whether better use could be made of a WikiProject-specific talk page template.

In the case of your new stub type, it was not named according to stub naming guidelines, and it may not reach the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to its creation.

BTW, I have moved the template to the stub-standard naming of {{India-protected-area-stub}}, and added proper parent categories to the category. Grutness...wha? 01:05, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

PS - neither of the articles which were tagged with this template were stubs! Grutness...wha? 01:27, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: reproposing the stub type, no, but it would be useful to explain the number of likely stubs under the appropriate heading at WP:WSS/D. If it's clear that it will be a well-used stub, it will almost certainly be adopted officially from there. In future, though, if you want to create any new stub types, please propose them first! Grutness...wha? 09:20, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

PA userbox image

I understand why you removed the image I showed on the PA userbox. That was just personalization for me, not intended for all PA boxes.
How's this for a universal image: If you like it drop it in the box and post for all.
FYI: My main interest is my pages Manjampatti, Palani Hills National Park and other pages in the Palni Hills, as you can see from my contributions.
One page that's obviously missing on Wiki is Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. I don't have time to do a good job on it, but if someone else starts, I can probably add some.
I hope to go back to Tamil Nadu next fall and am looking for a good 3 month volunteer opportunity in the Palni Hills.
Regards, Marcus Sherman Marcus334 05:04, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
P.S. Is it acceptable to solicit a knowlegable person, like a sanctuary director whom you don't know, to contribute to a wiki page? I have Indira Gandhi National Park in mind. MS

PA Userbox Image, 2nd Draft

Good Image?
Continuing about the acceptability of requesting help from knowledgable person outside Wiki:
I was thinking of initiating Knowledge capture from expert person outside Wiki with good knowlege of published sources on the subject
and ability to share good local photos, not originial unpublished research. is that OK?
Neo-Wikipedian, Marcus334 20:44, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Amartya,

Just for your kind information Rahul Roy is Punjabi, not Bengali. That is the reason I am taking a liberty to remove the Bengali translation of his name.

Hi Amartyabag, I am not really a tech savvy person so cant help with the addition of the project into the India template. Two people who can help are User:Ganeshk and User:Ambuj.Saxena. Try asking them, else you could ask at the talk page of Wikipedia:WikiProject CouncilLost(talk) 16:42, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Kaziranga

I will copyedit the article from start to finish, and also add a section on environment news. I am kind of tied up till the evening - will work on it at night, after that I am once again going on a short break from wikipedia. ray 14:42, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Done. Now it appears. See the edit history, and you may guess why that problem was happening! A "/" was missing. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:03, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
BTW, in Pradipta's talk page, I saw you told,"final touch needed". What are you planning? FAC? or something else like PR? I am asking this because the article is not yet FAC-worthy. It does need copyediting, and also probably a peer review. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:09, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Hey, this was a fantastic effort from many of you! I shall see what I can do. The history section looks good for now and I shall recheck some of the factoids. Maybe it can do with some cleanup later. But this was wonderful effort! Thanks. Chaipau 11:41, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Re:Tagging

Hi Amartyabag, I am running very busy these days and my access is sporadic. I tried adding the tag once but there was some sort of duplication of tags that needed to be sorted out. I think Ganesh has taken care of it now. Give me a couple of days and I will run my bot over a few categories. — Lost(talk) 12:34, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Information

Hi! Amartya, I'm afraid I don't have the time to copyedit articles. I still think more data can be added for now:

See the following articles for reference: Bryce Canyon National Park, Death Valley National Park, Banff National Park, Glacier National Park (US), Redwood National and State Parks, Shoshone National Forest, Yellowstone National Park, and Yosemite National Park See if you can cover similar topics what those articles speak about.

For the article to be comprehensive, please go through the following domains *.gov.in, *.nic.in *.ernet.in, and *.gov and see what information you can get. Another valuable trove of information are media sites. Don't forget to also search Google News and Google Books.

If you're looking for images, try searching http://www.creativecommons.org

Hope to see this article featured. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:41, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

PS Your Kazi image is a copyvio (you've made it too exact to the original) and should be deleted. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:43, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Kaziranga again

Amartya, I have been planning to spend "ek bela" on Kaziranga for quite some time, but am simply not getting time ! Hopefully I ll be able to do it next week. I will be working on the conservation issues. I will also stub the redlinks. Thanks for all your work on Kaziranga ! BTW, we need to get a list of West BengalRF s and start working on those. ray 14:00, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Can you please help correcting the Assamese name along with IAST and IPA codes of Kaziranga (the correct form is কাজিৰঙা). Bikram98 19:01, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments in my talkpage. I could not load the .wav file. Do you know to load a sound file? -Bikram98 16:45, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

I just wanted to talk to you.

Hey Amartya, my exams are getting over on 14th of march. I'll soon try to improve all the topics related to HP. Do check your mail on 12th March and kindly reply as soon as possible. Sushant gupta 08:21, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Importance scale for Protected areas project

You must use the tag, "protected-areas-importance" to set the importance scale for that workgroup. This was done since importance scale can be different between workgroups. For example, [1]. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 07:05, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

World Heritage template

Hi! I created a template for World Heritage Sites: {{Infobox World Heritage Site}}. Since many of the protected areas are also recognized as World Heritage Sites, I thought that it will be appropriate to forward this template here, and hopefully, for the community to help improve the template. Someone mentioned that the footnotes are unclear (i.e. why the need to emphasize "official" there). It's because the official name (or the name as inscribed on the List) is different from what we usually know. And the Region also has footnote to tackle specifically the classification of those regions which may fall ambiguously between two continents (e.g. those in Russia, Turkey, Cyprus, etc.). In addition, I think that the info provided in the template is much like a jargon for most readers since it box is more of use for internal references in the World Heritage program. I hope that the community will help improve the template and make it more relevant to the readers of wikipedia in general. Thanks. Joey80 13:47, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Kaziranga PR

Good that you've put that in PR. I was thinking to tell you the same. However, if PR goes lukewarm, don't be surprised! IMO, the table of content of the article is too much jammed, I mean multi-leveled. Anyway, I'll try to comment in the PR. Hope this will make it to the FAC soon. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:07, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

One round of summarisation done for "History". Plesae see if something you think important has been omitted. It can be further summarised.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:06, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

PR

Great to see Kaziranga in PR. I still am not finding time to make changes in the article that I wanted. I'll try and do so during PR> Thanks. ray 14:04, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Kaziranga Audio

Hi,

Give me a day for it. Actually I formatted my system a week back and haven't installed the softwares for it. BTW, do you need audio for "Kaziranga" or "Kaziranga National Park"? — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 06:18, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

RE:Kaziranga

There's still someway to go. I don't like the GA status, so I'm gearing this article directly for FA status, where standards are much higher. This is how you need to proceed.

  1. Fill in all red links with stub articles. -- A FA looks much better without red
  2. Summarise the sections I mentioned (you would need to contact someone for this, I won't be free this week.)
  3. Reduce headings (as mentioned in PR)
  4. Once all suggestions in PR are done, and summaries are complete, you would need to request a copyedit. You can request one here: Wikipedia:WikiProject League of Copyeditors

Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:15, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah you can put it on that list. =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:25, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Permission

Read this in Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You'll know what to do after getting proper permission. regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 08:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Summary form

Please try to summarise "Conservation management". Try to do it while the article is in peer review, so that you get more responses. As of now, the suggestions in peer review have not been met (eg this summarisation). Further responses can be expected after the prior suggestions have been carried out/replied. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:50, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I'll definitely let you know in case I chance upon something. However I don't think I will be able to search properly before early April :( I have an exam on 30th March.--Dwaipayan (talk) 13:05, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 2 - March 2007

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([2]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [3]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.

List of mammals in Kaziranga National Park

Updated DYK query On 30 March, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article List of mammals in Kaziranga National Park, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Actually geology is not really important for Kaziranga. It is preferential, but I suggest you don't get bogged down by lack of sources. Still not ready for FAC. There are minor but important things like spelling, unnecessary adjectives etc., and also may be major stuffs like further summarisation and good flow of text.
