Samuel Bowles (III) (February 9, 1826 - January 16, 1878) was an American journalist born in Springfield, Massachusetts. Bancroft and Dunning's work was written as a supplement to Volume III of Carl Schurz's Reminiscences (New York: McClure Publ. Co., 1907).
