The Perth Scorchers were facing the Sydney Thunder in the 24th match of the WBBL. Electing to bat first, the Scorchers set a target of 172 for the Thunder. During the Thunder’s innings, a remarkable moment occurred on the last ball of the eighth over.
Phoebe Litchfield was batting, with Amy Edgar delivering a full-length ball around the off-stump. Litchfield attempted to clear mid-on, who was inside the circle, but didn’t connect properly, sending the ball toward Devine, positioned at mid-off. Devine dived forward and completed the catch, securing the ball just above the ground. Her reaction showed sheer joy after dismissing Thunder’s skipper, Litchfield, with this brilliant effort.
Following her efforts, many fans took to social media platform ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, to applaud Devine’s catch. Many described it as the “catch of the match,” while some highlighted Devine’s fitness and agility in making such a catch at her age. While one also referred to it as “Devine intervention” in recognition of her brilliant effort.
It was a brilliant day for Sophie Devine, both with the bat and in the field. Earlier, she was the team’s top run-scorer with 48 runs and later, with the ball, she claimed a wicket and took a stunning catch in the field.
