United Kingdom After Oz, GWTW , North By Northwest what other Warner Bros classics due on Blu-ray?

After the excellent Wizard Of Oz and Gone With the Wind Blu Rays what other Warner Bros classic back catalogue titles are expected over the next twelve months?

Ben Hur.

Maybe not regarded as classics, but I would love to see the Complete Superman collection too.

Yes, and so were The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind (the latter one technically from Selznick International, but with distribution through MGM).

That's because Warner Home Video owns not just WB movies, but also most of the RKO library and the bulk of MGM's pre-1986 library (nearly all the MGM classics).

Thought so.

Haven't all Warner Digibooks titles been released in the UK in the Amaray form?

Yes they have. In my opinion its a shame cause I like the Digibooks but seen as most of Warners catalogue releases dont cost much more than 12, I will live with it. The only Digibook we havent got is JFK. Not sure why

I think all the above listed American releases were region free , what a pity Walt Disney doesn't do region free releases too!

How I wish that Universal would get Warner Bros technicians to do their digital remastering , because I'd really love to see all the Universal Monster Movies on Warner Bros quality Blu Rays!!

Lawrence of Arabia, which I'd agree is long overdue on blu-ray, is owned by Sony/Columbia Pictures.

I'm not sure if it will be available in the UK, but you can add the classic WB title The Music Man to its upcoming releases. It will be released in the U.S. in February.

I'm wondering when Warner Bros will release Singin In The Rain , My Fair Lady and some of the other classic musicals such as A Star Is Born ( the 1954 version with Judy Garland and James Mason ) , and from other studios classic movies such as The Sound Of Music from Fox will be released here in the UK?

Warners won't be issuing My Fair Lady because they have lost the rights to it. It is now in the hands of CBS/Paramount.

A Star is Born could likely come out soon because they did some enormous restoration on it (but it is still missing footage, so they may hold off on that).

Singin' in the Rain will probably come out in 2010, I bet, or more likely in 2011 to tie into its' 60th anniversary.

There are a number of great titles that will be released in North America and Europe in 2010. Some of the more notable ones are The Maltese Falcon, The Treasure of Sierra Madre, The Postman Always Rings Twice (Tay Garnett's 1946 and Bob Rafelson's 1981 versions), Dial M for Murder, etc.

How confident are you that Warner will release the 1981 version of 'The Postman Always Rings Twice' on Blu-ray in the US? Their early DVD edition was a horrible cropped effort in a 4:3 aspect ratio and they've never re-released it in a better transfer. I've been wondering whether they even still own the distribution rights. If I remember correctly, it was one of those Lorimar productions and I'm not sure where the current rights are held.

Good evening,

Confident is not a word I would like to use in this discussion as release plans could be altered at any time, for a number of different reasons (example: Lola Montes in France). However, the film(s) mentioned above is/are most definitely on the studio's release schedule in France. Also, there are other classic titles that are being grouped together with the above film(s) that are definitely prepared for release elsewhere in Europe and the U.S.

I believe The Sound of Music has already been rumoured for a release in 2010. I think The Sound of Music will almost certainly see a UK release if it gets released in the US - might be a couple of months down the line, but I think you could count on it.
