WASHINGTON (TND) — A "dark money" group with ties to the Democratic Party reportedly seeks to oust, shame, and potentially disbar over 100 lawyers who assisted former President Donald Trump with his post-2020 election lawsuits.

Axios reports "The 65 Project" will soon begin filing complaints and launching advertisement campaigns against 111 lawyers in 26 states who were all, to some degree, involved in the effort to challenge or reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election. The first complaint was reportedly filed on Monday.

The 65 Project was devised by a former senior Clinton administration official named Melissa Moss and is also receiving advice and aid from prolific Democratic party fundraiser David Brock, Axios reports.

The group reportedly takes its name from the number of lawsuits filed seeking to thwart President Joe Biden's victory. Axios says the group hopes its efforts will deter any conservative-aligned law talent from aiding any future GOP efforts to overturn elections.

To do so, the group will focus its efforts on having the targeted lawyers disbarred and "shamed," Axios reports, with the lawyers becoming too "toxic" to be a continued presence in their firms and even their communities.

In an interview with Axios, Brock says the project's goal is to "not only bring the grievances in the bar complaints, but shame them and make them toxic in their communities and in their firms."

"I think the littler fish are probably more vulnerable to what we're doing," Brock reportedly said in the interview. "You're threatening their livelihood. And, you know, they've got reputations in their local communities."

Speaking with Axios, one of the lawyers targeted by The 65 Project calls the effort a "desperate attempt."

"This move is nothing more than a desperate attempt by leftist hacks and mercenaries”Texas attorneyPaul Davis, who is targeted for his presence at the Jan. 6 riotsat the Capitol, wrote to Axios in an email.

Davis says The 65 Project seeks“to neutralize anyone on the right with the ability to stand in the way of the left's efforts to hide malfeasance in the 2020 elections and to clear the path for a repeat of similar malfeasance in the 2022 mid-terms.”

Cleta Mitchell, who reportedly resigned from her law firm after assisting Trump's legal effort to overturn the 2020 election, reportedly calls The 65 Project and its efforts "hypocritical."

"I'm betting Marc Elias isn't on the list," Mitchell said to Axios in a text message, referencing aDemocratic attorney who challenged elections results of a House race in Iowa last year.

"Ok for Dem lawyers to file election challenges. Of course," Mitchell continued.

Many of the targeted lawyers do not believe they have done anything wrong, and stand behind their efforts for Trump, according to Forbes.
