Harper's Magazine
Harper's Magazine, etiam Harper's, olim Harper's Monthly Magazine appellata, est menstrua litterarum, civilitatis, culturae, rationis aerariae, et artium magazina, Iunio 1850 incepta, secunda a veterrima magazina singulis mensibus constanter prolata in Civitatibus Foederatis (veterrima est Scientific American). Editor hodie est Ellen Rosenbush, quae se pro Roger Hodge Ianuario 2010 substituit. Harper's Magazine multa Praemia Magazinarum Nationalis vicit.[1]
Periodicum primum prolatum est nomine Harper's New Monthly Magazine mense Iunio 1850, a Harper & Brothers ('Harper et fratres'), editore Novi Eboraci constituto, qui praeterea aliam condiderunt magazinam, Harper's Bazaar; societas ad ultimum HarperCollins facta est. Prima Harper's Magazine editio, 7500 exemplarium, paene statim vendita est; numerus exemplarium post sex menses fuit fere 50 000 fasciculorum.[2]
Primi fasciculi res auctoribus Anglicis surreptas typis impresserunt, inter quos Carolus Dickens, Gulielmus Makepeace Thackeray, et sorores Brontë.[3] Magazina opera artificum et scriptorum Americanorum mox patefaciebat, et deinde commentarios a Winston Churchill et Woodrow Wilson scriptos. Primae partes mythistoriae Moby-Dick editae in fasciculo Octobris 1851, nomine "The Town-Ho's Story" (ex capitulo 54 libri edituri), patefactae sunt.[4]
