Joy has passion and zeal to improve knowledge shared within the open movements like Wikipedia.

Thanks for your participation during the Inspire Campaign focused on outreach to outside knowledge networks from February 2017. I'm interested in hearing your experience during the campaign, so if you're able, I invite you to complete this brief survey to describe how you contributed to the campaign and how you felt about participating. I want to improve how campaigns are run, so let me know if there's something that could be done better for next time.

Please feel free to let me know on my talk page if you have any questions about the campaign or the survey. Thanks! I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 18:34, 31 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia diversity - What happened at the conference and how to follow up

[edit]

Hello Joy Agyepong,
We are messaging you now because you signed up as an ambassador for Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2017. We are sharing this message far and wide, so apologies in advance if you are receiving this message twice.

During the conference, we dedicated a full afternoon to discussing the strategic direction and what it means for the work on diversity in the Wikimedia movement. Compiling the outcomes of those conversations, we summarized the key problems and solutions identified, and we created a summary statement. But the conversation is far from over! We still need to hear from diversity ambassadors: (1) what does working for diversity mean at your local context?; (2) what are the needs that should be addressed; (3) what resources are relevant for these identified needs?

We know that diversity gains meaning in context, and this is why we need to hear every voice. Please take a few minutes to go over to the diversity conversation page and add your comments.

If you’d like to stay in touch, and share your experience working for diversity with others, add your profile on our group here.

Thank you and see you on the wiki,
Sara (talk)

[edit]

Greetings!

Furthermore, In the months of October and November, we are organizing a global contest and edit-a-thon tagged: The Months of African Cinema. If you would love to join this exciting event, also list your username as a participant on the English Wikipedia page. If you would love to lead this contest (or any other relevant program) for a non-English Wikipedia community, please feel free to translate the English Wikiproject page to your local language Wikipedia, or you can create one from scratch!

If you have any questions, complaints, suggestions, etc., please reach out to me personally on my talkpage or the project talkpage! Cheers!--Jamie Tubers (talk) 20:50, 5 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to the Months of African Cinema!

[edit]

Greetings!

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which has been dedicated to improving contents that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora.

This is a global online edit-a-thon, which is happening in at least 5 language editions of Wikipedia (en, he, es, it, bn) and Wikidata. Join us in this exciting venture, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing Users who are able to achieve the following:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Country Winners
  • Diversity winner
  • High quality contributors
  • Gender-gap fillers
  • Page improvers
  • Wikidata Translators

If you'd love to organize this contest for your local wiki or organize in-person events centred around this project, or you need further information about the AfroCine Project, please leave a message on the project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 22:50, 03 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wikimania Ambassador

[edit]

Hi!

I noticed that you have signed up as a Wikimedia Diversity Ambassador, after the Diversity Conference held in Stockholm 2017. In August this year, Wikimania will take place in Stockholm, and our goal is to use Ambassadors to reach out to local communities, to spread the news about the conference and the outcomes afterwards. The conference theme (still to be announced) will connect closely to diversity. If you would like to be involved as a Wikimania ambassador, please sign up at the Ambassador page at the Wikimania wiki!

A first thing to do, if you would like to help out, would be to translate the scholarship page at the Wikimania wiki into the language(s) you speak!

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

[edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the Months of African Cinema last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000. About 9 in-person events were also organised for the edit-a-thon in different parts of the world.

The contest is organized by a Wikimedia project called The AfroCine Project, which is dedicated to improving the coverage of the history, works, people, places, and events, that are associated with the cinema, theatre and arts of Africa, African countries, the Caribbean, and the diaspora.

If you would love to join this exciting event, please list your username as a participant on the English Wikipedia contest page. If you would love to lead this contest for your country or community, please list your name in the coordinators' page here. The rapid grants team would be accepting proposals throughout October and November, in case you'd need funds to run local edit-a-thons or some other activities related to this event. Upon listing your name on the coordinators' page, you'd be contacted to talk about the resources you'd need to run the event in your community. You can also contact me directly for any clarifications.

Finally, We also need volunteers to handle some aspects of the AfroCine project. These aspects include:

  1. Community Liaison: This role essentially involves closely engaging with local communities to support their activities within the scope of Afrocine.
  2. Communications: This involves the communications aspects of the project. Sharing relevant information on mailing lists and social media would be the responsibility of this person.
  3. MAC Jury: This role involves joining the jury of Months of African Cinema contest. We need as many people as we can get 🙂.
  4. Tools: Going forward, we would need relevant tools to better track the metrics and also analyse the general impact of these events. We are calling for Wikimedia volunteers who can navigate wikimedia tools that can be useful for the project.

If you would love to help with any of these roles, or some other roles that have not been mentioned, please contact me directly or on: samoye_(_AT_)hotmail.com

If you have further questions, complaints, suggestions, etc., please reach out to me personally or right here or the project talkpages.

Thank you!--Jamie Tubers (talk) 17:10, 30 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to affiliate members to complete a survey about WMF wide Universal Code of Conduct

[edit]

Hello; My name is Mervat, and I am helping the Trust and Safety team to reach out to affiliates in order to discuss the Universal Code of Conduct. I am contacting you as you are a member of the Wikimedians for Sustainable Development User Group. If you have received this from other user groups/chapters, you can ignore.

There has been talks about the need for a global set of conduct rules in different communities over time, and finally, Wikimedia Foundation Board announced a Community Culture Statement, enacting new standards to address harassment and promote inclusivity across projects.Since the universal code of conduct that will be a binding minimum set of standards across all Wikimedia projects, will apply to all of us, staff and volunteers alike, all around the globe, and will impact our work as groups, individuals and projects, it’s of great importance that we all participate in expressing our opinions and thoughts about UCoC, its nature, what we think it should cover or include and what it shouldn’t include; how it may develop, drawback or help our groups.   This is the time to talk about it. As you are a valuable contributor to the Wikimedia movement, your voice counts. Before starting to draft the code of conduct, we would like to hear from you; We invite you to devote some minutes to take this survey; your answers will help us create a safer environment for all on Wikimedia:

(English) https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd36dNdU3C5shXEkKp9itJOhuCTx9hZE5AE-xflkxtfRMnZtg/viewform?usp=pp_url

It’s possible that you are a member of more than one affiliate; hence you may receive this survey more than once, and you may have participated previously in the discussions or filled out a previous survey during the first round of consultations about UCoC which targeted wikipedia/wikimedia communities. We apologize for this; it is really difficult to identify if a wikimedian belongs to multiple groups that work to spread free knowledge. Looking forward to your thoughts and opinions and hoping that you can respond within the next 2 weeks.  If you have any questions about the surveys or difficulties accessing the link, please contact me by email (msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org)Results will be considered during the drafting process for the UCoC. Thank you for your participation.

Mervat Salman - Trust & Safety (Policy) Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation. --Mervat (WMF) (talk) 12:26, 4 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Mervat (WMF) This information has been well received and sent out to our community members to fill as well. I will reach out to you if there is any further clarifications needed. Thank you. Joy Agyepong (talk)

Sunday August 23: Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network meeting

[edit]
Strategic flock of Wikimedians heading in a new direction.

The Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network (SWAN) is a proposed forum for all Wikimedia movement affiliates to share ideas on the Wikimedia 2030 strategy process. It expands on the model of the All-Affiliates Brand Meeting to help lay some of the groundwork for a future Global Council.

The idea is to follow up on the All-Affiliates Brand Meeting and other strategic and outreach topics of mutual concern to all affiliates, and you are all invited to RSVP here.--Pharos (talk) 15:43, 21 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

A big thank you for organizing #WikiForHumanRights! And please give us feedback!

[edit]

Both UN Human Rights and the WMF team are really grateful. Initial data suggests that this year we doubled the volume of content created and grew the campaign in languages and geographies. This kind of activation only works when we have local-organizers doing targeted outreach to their communities.

We are still learning how to organize this campaign, would like your feedback. Please fill out this survey at: this google form.

We will use the summary of findings and recommendations from the survey for the report on the campaign and for designing next year’s campaign. Our hope is to support more decentralized events, potentially with less experienced organizers -- so we need your help understanding what worked, what didn’t and what kinds of preparation we need to help communities with next year.

Please note that the collected information in this survey will be treated as in WikiForHumanRights Organizer Feedback Privacy Statement.--MBakni (WMF) (talk) 19:17, 15 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Winners of Feminism and Folklore 2021

[edit]

Hello, Joy! I want to let you know that Only Indian winners have got coupons properly among those who have topped the competition for feminism and folklore from Bengali Wikipedia. On the other hand Bangladeshi participants did not even get any updated information. Why is this so? Even though I once said in the email, I repeat that zoom pay has to be used for Bangladeshi participants. There is no alternative to it. Thanks (:Aishik Rehman 14:49, 20 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello @User:Aishik Rehman, Thank you for your message and advice but can you please clarify, what do you mean by they didn't get any updated information? We have approached winners via their talk and email. Others are yet to receive their Coupons plus those who require coupons in India, Bangladeshi et Al the team in India will sort them out per what was stated in the form plus availablity of the said coupon. Please send further enquiries to support@openheritagefoundation.org we will be glad to assist. Joy Agyepong (talk) 09:42, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Joy Agyepong, Aishik Rehman meant that Indian winners (who live in India) from Bengali Wikipedia got their prize (in this case coupons). But Bangladeshi winners from Bengali Wikipedia didn't got their prize yet. Do you have any update about this, when winners from Bangladesh will receive their prize? Did you Feminism and Folklore team already send it to Aishik Rehman? Please share update. Thank you. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 02:07, 14 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
If the team didn't sent the prize yet to Bangladeshi winners, i am throwing some idea here: There is Daraz, Zoom pay in Bangladesh. send the prize via those service. In worst case send them amazon.in or amazon.com coupon (This should be the last last option). Please kindly share those idea to the team. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 02:27, 14 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Wikiwomen Camp 2023 scholarship question

[edit]

Hi. Sorry to bug you directly but I tried the Gmail admin account for the conference and haven't had a reply. I was informed on Friday, that I'd been awarded a scholarship to the Wikiwomen Camp this year, and I replied with my acceptance that night. But I still haven't had even an automated reply that my acceptance was received. And given the deadline to accept is today, or it will pass to another applicant, I'm very nervous that I'll lose this amazing opportunity because of a technical glitch or something like that. Can you just tell me (as the scholarship coordinator on the info page) if it's normal, that I haven't had any follow-up emails yet, to my acceptance reply? Thank you for reaching out about your enquiry. Please wait for a communication from the WikiWomenCamp Team for feedback. Joy Agyepong (talk) 08:17, 21 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
