Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos in Albania and Kosovo
ByWikipedia Pages Wanting Photos Campaign and Edit-a-thon in 2023
Enriching Wikipedia and Wikidata articles with visuals was one of the key moments for the Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos Campaign and Edit-a-thon in 2023.
WoALUG joined the 4th edition of the annual campaign of Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos where we tried to address the gap between text and visual content on Wikipedia and Wikidata during 1- 31 August 2023.
The edit-a-thon culmination was the peak of this campaign that brought contributors together online and offline in Kosovo and Albania on August 26th. During the edit-a-thon, contributors uploaded and improved the existing content visually on Wikipedia and Wikidata.
As a User Group, we wanted to highlight the addition of images to articles covering Albanian traditional food articles, diverse topics and using images from local photography contests such as Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Monuments, Albanian Traditional Food, and Wiki Loves Folklore developed by our User Group through years.
The statistics from the edit-a-thon and campaign:
- Participants: 15 editors
- Wikipedia: 136 articles illustrated
- Wikidata: 816 total revisions
Here are some pictures from the edit-a-thon:
Wiki Loves Earth in Albania and Kosovo, 2023
In July 2023, the Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group (WoALUG) participated in the annual international photo contest known as Wiki Loves Earth.
Wiki Loves Earth's primary objective was to gather and preserve the beauty of natural heritage photos from protected natural sites in Albania and Kosovo.
At the beginning of the photo contest, WoALUG extended invitations to photography enthusiasts and partners involved in protected areas to capture and share their images with the Wikimedia community. The aim was to document and immortalize this natural heritage for the benefit of future generations.
During this campaign, participants uploaded a total of 500 pictures from Albania and Kosovo. A jury consisting of three members was tasked with selecting the most outstanding photos among the entries.
Below, you can find the winners from each respective country:
