Gathering sources for the BlackPower Edit-a-thon

Initiated by Afro Free Culture Crowdsourcing Wikimedia (AfroCROWD, a partner with met during last WikiIndaba in Accra, the BlackPower Edit-a-thon was a simultaneous writing held in NYC, Accra, Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire on 25 February. As part of the Black History Month activities, this edit-a-thon focused on topics related to the History of black people.

In Côte d'Ivoire, during the preparation of this edit-a-thon we asked GLAM partners to provide us with sources (books, online articles, press articles, etc.) basing on a certain list of articles. Thanks to the sources provided for the edit-athon, several articles could be created / edited.

Attending a workshop with cultural organizations

The local bureau of Francophonie organized, from 15 to 17 February, a workshop with cultural organizations in view of the SIICA 2017, an international culture fair to be hosted in Abidjan. Wikimedia Community User Group of Côte d'Ivoire (WCUG-CI) was invited as a player of the media and ICT field.

We seized that occasion to speak about Wikipedia, the Wiki movement as a whole, and about the work being carried out locally : training young people, writing about our cultural heritage, etc.
