Ukrainian Museums Issued Additional Awards for Wiki Loves Monuments 2016
ByOn December, 3rd, Wikimedia Ukraine held joint Wiki Loves Monuments and Wiki Loves Earth awards ceremony. Diplomas, prizes or souvenirs were prepared for both contests winners and not only for photographers of top 10 photos but in nominations that are traditionally awarded by WMUA: top 10 users by the number of pictured monuments, best photos of each administrative region, top users by the number of monuments pictured in each region. The list included about 60 names and more than half of them came to the ceremony.
In addition, there were two special nominations established by the historic preserve National Conservation Area “Saint-Sophia of Kiev” and the National Museum of the History of Ukraine. The Sophia of Kyiv supported WMUA's initiative to join the contest as a partner and also award a prize for the best photo of monuments maintained by the preserve among those submitted to the contest. Sofia's complex includes 60 architectural monuments on the territory of five landmarks in Kyiv and Sudak (Crimea). Photo series of Genova's Fortress was announced as winning one.
The National Museum's of the History of Ukraine special nomination was meant to choose the best photo of the civic architecture built during the Cossack Hetmanate times (17-18 centuries).
Year-round museum admission and a book were given to the winner.
The ceremony itself was held in the mentioned National Museum of the History of Ukraine alongside the exhibition of winning photos.
