'''Walter Edward “Turk” Broda''' (May 15, 1914 – October 17, 1972) was a [[Canadians|Canadian]] professional [[ice hockey]] [[goaltender]] for the [[Toronto Maple Leafs]]. He was born in [[Brandon, Manitoba]] on [[May 15]], [[1914]] to a [[Polish-Canadian]] family. He joined the Maple Leafs in 1936. Broda stepped away from hockey from 1943 to 1946 so he could fight in [[World War II]]. He returned to the Leafs in 1946.
