Welcome

[change source]

Hello, Exert, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing!--Eptalon 22:14, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome, Exert, to Esperanza! As you may know, all the members have one important goal, which is the success of this encyclopedia. To do this we want to make the community better, and be the nice side of Wikipedia.

[change source]

I changed it to an only warning because that user was a repeat vandal and obviously was going to continue vandalising wikipedia. I may have been a little hard on him/her, though. Cheers, --Isis§(talk) 21:46, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcoming Users

[change source]

Hello, Oysterguitarist. It's a good idea to welcome users, but can you wait until users have some mainspace edits before welcoming them? Thanks, --Isis§(talk) 01:58, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, he does have an account at english wikipedia, but that doesn't mean he will stay at simple wikipedia. When I found simple wikipedia, I created an account and didn't have any mainspace edits for about a month (mainly because I forgot my password!), but also because I was spending all my time on the computer at English wikipedia. In my expirience, when users from other wikipedias find this wiki, they create accounts and forget about them. I may be wrong, but that's what I've noticed. Cheers, --Isis§(talk) 20:15, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just mean that he might not stay with simple wikipedia. Cheers, --Isis§(talk) 22:34, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling Error

[change source]

On your User page, you have a section called "Articals I have written". I am just infroming you that the correct spelling is "articles" not "articals". If you intended it to be that way, it is fine with me, though users on Wiki may think of you as a bit childish. Egyptgal26 12:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

[change source]

You may want to consider running for adminship. You would need to check your edit count, and see if you have at least 1000 edits, and you have to be here for 3 or more months. j. rand|talk| ε contribs|email 00:55, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Snake311Bot

[change source]

Yes but don't bother with it. Because I've trid to set up my own bot but came out with too many problems. But you could ask an admin to delete that account since it is rendered useless. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 20:41, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection

[change source]

In light of the recent vandal activity on your pages, I added protection to your user page and talk page. Your user page is now protected against new or unregistered users either editing it or moving it (Any user registered for over 4 days can still edit or move it) while your Talk page now requires an admin to move it but can still be edited by anyone. (anyone can leave you messages, but no one short of an admin can move it on you, which since it should never need moved should not be an issue). If there are any problems with this, feel free to contact me or any of the admins to clear them up. -- Creol(talk) 06:56, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oysterguitar--The poem can be used alright. Cid Corman would have loved it to be on the simple English site. I was a friend of Cid's and I'm certain it's fine. If need be we can check with Shizumi Corman and Bob Arnold (Cid's official literary Executor), but I'm certain they would say it's ok. The first line that you "corrected" back to the original was fine as it was too and actually easier to read. Jesse Glass

Hello. It is godd that you copy over taxoboxes from en. But when you do so, please remove (or comment out the section about species or genera. Especially, if it turns out to be a collection of redlinks here. There are 30 different kind s of Lancelets out there. I do however not think that our current user is interested in learning about all of them, how they are different from each other, etc. Therefore please comment out the resp. sections (with <!-- and -->). Adminship without email

[change source]

Hello Oysterguitarist. I think being an Admin without email is not possible; Admins are often contacted by mail. On the other hand, if this is the only concern you have, there are many sites out there (like gmail, Yahoo! or GMX, to name just a few) that give email addresses for free. They do have a web-based way to read emails, usually. They are usually financed by advertisements though. All the best, and good luck. --Eptalon 16:12, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't you have e-mail? I thought I remembered receiving an e-mail from you once, and I checked it just now, and, although I deleted the e-mail a while back, I still have the address. It is a cox.net address. --Isis§(talk) 23:18, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cantons

[change source]

Hey Oysterguitarist, I was wondering if you would like to divvy up the remainder of the cantons for article creation, so that we don't overlap when we are working on cantons? If you would like to do this, feel free to leave me a message on my talkpage. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 20:24, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here's what I've come up with:
You've already been working on Jura, so I will give you Jura. I've been working on Aargau, so I take Aargau.

Oysterguitarist

  1. Jura
  2. Vaud
  3. Valais

Razorflame

  1. Aargau
  2. St. Gallen
  3. Ticino

This is how I've divvied up the cantons for now. I've decided that since Bern is such a huge canton (430 some municipalities), we can both do Bern. Same goes for Graubueden.

You like this plan? Razorflame (contributions) Talk 20:46, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think I should run for adminship yet? It says on the page that there is no set time for running for adminship; do you think that I qualify for an exception to this rule? Just wondering what your thoughts are....Razorflame 03:46, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I caught you on bug:12917. Contact me by email if there is something we need to understand togeather. - Huji reply 12:17, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Read my reply. If it didn't help, leave a note on my talk page, with the following information:
  • The exact username/IP which you tried to block when you noticed the bug.
  • The exact information you expected to see, and the exact place you wanted it to be shown.
Please make sure that there are four views which shouldn't be complicated with each other: (1) The block form, which has a summary of "previous" edits on it. (2) The page you get "after" you block an account, which only tells you that the block was successful. User talk:ScribeOfTheNile

[change source]

I'm curious. This user has requested deletion of his user page. There are no current warnings. Why not delete it?--Bärliner 23:14, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I brought this to AN just to get the policy wording tweaked. There seems no problem with archiving or blanking a talkpage, so QD should be possible too. Especially as a page blanked by the user, or a talk page without a main page, can be deleted.--Bärliner 12:21, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Warning users

[change source]

I've noticed that you don't warn users when you revert their changes. Would you like me to handle the warnings that would be given out for the changes you revert? I thought I would ask you before I start to warn them. Razorflame 14:16, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just increased the size of that image again. The reason is that the pic has a lot of dynamic light and shade, and needs to be of a sufficient size for the viewer to actually see what's hhappening.

I have avoided putting in a conservative "Face of Christ" type image in that location and have deliberately gone for one of the most famous and dynamic action pictures. But the picture needs to be looked at to be "read", and so needs to be large enough for the viewer to identifiy Jesus and Matthew in the crowd, by their gestures. It relates to the brief descrption further down the page of the calling of Matthew, and shows Jesus as the man of the Gospels, rather than the "iconic" image. Range blocking

[change source]

Hey, Oysterguitarist. I just wanted to let you know that I do know how to make a range block. On The Test Wiki, I made two successful range blocks of IP's that were vandalizing. The first one, I asked Az1568 if I did it correctly, and he said that I did do it correctly. I just wanted to let you know that I do have experience in range blocking. Cheers, Razorflame 00:52, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I was wondering if you would like to vote on the current good article nominees. I know you were/are an active VGA voter, so I was wondering if you would like to vote before votes close for the articles tomorrow. Userpage suggestion

[change source]

I would like to suggest that instead of you having an actual userpage, you could make your userpage a redirect to your user talk page, like Werdan7 did. I would really like you to have a userpage created, even if it is just a redirect. I think that all administrators should have a userpage of some sort, even if it is just a redirect. Your talk page

I noticed that you emptied your talk page. I undid that change, and ask you to archive your talk page, instead of emptying it. Read more on WP:ARCHIVE. - Huji reply 09:50, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Right, but we don't have any problem with having more pages. Indeed, it is a lot harder to find something in the page history, than to find it in an archive. - Huji reply 06:34, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see a reason for hiding the previous discussions either! - Huji reply 08:30, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I consider hiding, because hiding means to put something somewher that can't be seen in the first look, although one can see it with enough effort if he looks the right place. Same applies to the old discussions which are removed from a talk page. - Huji reply 17:38, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
People may have different views about it; from my personal view it does look like that. I don't think I'm alone here; even if people don't use the exact word of "hiding" about it, there is something I have in common with many other people, who have finally agreed that: "Archiving one's own user talk page is optional and is preferred over deletion so that past discussions can be easily searched." - Huji reply 21:45, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sysop rights

[change source]

As there was no community reason for the change, status has been returned. I would request you drop me a line (email) about the general reasoning and such why this occured. The situation of an admin quitting out of the blue than recinding a few days later usually does beg for at least an extremely vague explaination of the situation to rule out problems we might on-wiki have and didn't notice. -- Creol(talk) 06:51, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know you are an admin and have the power but you are not assuming good faith for first time offenders. Doing it twice is one thing but that was the user's first offense. Please remember to assume good faith. Thank you.--  CM16  04:52, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See I did not know that....but I still think you should have started at 2 instead of 4 and even if you started at 4 it should have been 4im....but thanks for explaining.--  CM16  05:01, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Your welcome.--  CM16  05:04, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I find it more interesting that rather than ask politely why a person acted in such a manner, CM16 lashes out with "You are not assuming good faith". Is it not assuming good faith to expect the person may have a good reason for acting as they did? Is it not assuming bad faith to accuse others of acting in bad faith because you did know why they acted in that manner?
An admin makes a decision based on the information (s)he has at hand. Assuming that admin acted in bad faith without actually knowing what that information is or asking the admin why they acted in such a way is in itself a violation of WP:AFG. CM16: you may want to assume a little more good faith yourself before complaining to others about their assumptions. -- Creol(talk) 06:02, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Creol, this matter was resolved, and it angers a little that you got on to be for showing bad faith, which I didn't. I good intentions in mind whitch is good faith. Later.--  CM16  06:06, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New articles to avoid enwiki text-spam

[change source]

Thanks for the tips about "Other websites" & categories. I have been overwhelmed in seeing many major articles in English WP become warped by people POV-pushing in main article sections, adding peculiar ideas, or odd people, so I realized that Simple WP, while avoiding complex wording, can also save the core article text that enwiki was supposed to have. I guess we are seeing what happens when too many people tinker with enwiki (and others cannot control the text-spamming): many enwiki articles get text-spammed with peculiar ideas in the intro, odd people noted as highly important, and several advert-sites listed as External links, despite not being reliable or even mainstream sources. I had imagined that Simple WP was mainly to provide easy-to-understand clarifications of articles, but now I see it as preserving balanced text which is less likely to be warped with text-spam. Perhaps Simple WP should contain 500,000 major articles, to capture those topics from a mainstream POV (before they were pushed to highlight fringe ideas or also-ran people) in the major article sections. That's why I have been faced with odd-ball categories, as if "Category:Yellow-polkadot technology" or whatever bizarreness needs to be "simplified" rather than ignored. Anyway, thanks again. -Wikid77 (talk) 10:07, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has requested deletion of Eolian processes, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2015/Eolian processes and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Hydriz (talk) 13:46, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
