Wikipedia Requests

Wikipedia Test-Wiki is for developers.

Please read this: This wiki does not exist for users to test out random nonsense on an exhaustive basis; it's here for developers to check that changes to the code aren't going to cripple the live sites. See also: WP:WWD and WP:NOT. Special:ListGroupRights details available usergroups and their rights.

As a result, administrator status is still not going to be given out to all and sundry. This isn't an arena for you to play with the tools, or mess about, nor is it somewhere you should be testing your bots, etc. - If you want a place that is for you to test out sysop tools, etc, try these sites.

Having said that, if you do need administrator status for a particular reason, request this status and ensure that your userpage here is linked to your home wiki project.

Closing rationale: Sysop in production wiki
  • SilverLocust (talk · contribs · logs), global contribs 11:36, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Motive for request: I used to come to testwiki often for testing various things (>500 edits), but mostly switched to another website (not using the most recent MediaWiki release) because I didn't have advanced permissions here. Now that I'm an enwiki admin, would you give me sysop here for general testing?

Closing rationale: You already have this user right since it is included in administrator rights
  • Ponor (talk · contribs · logs), global contribs 22:08, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Motive for request: Is it possible to get the "temporary account IP viewer" right now that we have temporary accounts enabled? I'd like to see what changes this will bring to AbuseFilter(s). It looks like I cannot test ip_in_ranges with the new parameter unless I have this right. The filters will have to be ready once we get them on other wikis. I'd also like to give feedback on how these things work.

Closing rationale: Per below. Bot flag granted for ZippyBotZo.
  • Zippybonzo (talk · contribs · logs), global contribs 05:44, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Motive for request: I’m currently making User:ZippyBotZo which will handle clerking the requested moves/technical page on enwiki, and ideally I need to be able to test it can handle protected pages, and pages being moved around without redirects and being swapped etc. I’ll need them for at most 6 months just to make sure it works and can definitely handle most possible cases.

  • Comments: @Xaosflux: any opinions? EPIC (talk) 22:06, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi EPIC, this seems to be a reoccurring request from this requester to be an admin here for some minor edge case. I'm not seeing why this is necessary. Zippybonzo, if you want to see what happens when you bot tries to move a page it doesn't have permission to move, just point it at any page in Special:ProtectedPages. If you want to test some moves from the bot account we could give it a bot flag here (that includes suppressredirect). -- Xaosflux (foo/bar) talk 22:15, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the comment. @Zippybonzo: Per the above, could you explain further? EPIC (talk) 15:41, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds fine, the bot won't be moving any pages, it'll simply be checking the pages can "in theory" be moved from a technical POV. I do want to check and implement cases for what happens when the pages are moved, so ideally it would be useful to have something giving me or the bot access to suppressredirect to test any test cases. Thanks :) - Zippybonzo (talk) 08:02, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done for sysop per above,  Done for the bot flag. EPIC (talk) 13:33, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested fix for gadget

Currently, a default gadget cause repeated icons across the sidebar in the section "In other projects". I have suggested a fix in: MediaWiki talk:Gadget-InterProjectLinks.css / JohanahoJ (talk) 21:11, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The faulty gadget has apparently been deactivated. /JohanahoJ (talk) 12:03, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Don't blacklist editnotices

Can you please not blacklist editnotices from creation? This is a testwiki, experiments should be allowed. --Wik𝒪ipedia (talk) 04:54, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How do i add an image? --RHo (WMF) (talk) 13:24, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@RHo (WMF): Are you trying to upload a local image here or are you asking how do you insert an image that is already uploaded to c:? —Justin (koavf)TCM 00:59, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have a request on editing test2wiki:MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer-anon. The current problem is that there is red links of IP address and RIRs appeared in the template. As test2wiki is also a test wiki which will not have serious content exists, I would like to add an ":en:" prefix on them so that they will become [[:en:IP address|IP address]] and [[:en:Regional Internet registry|RIRs]]. Thank you. 202.144.170.1 02:18, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

And also I would like to ask for restoring this revision of test2wiki:MediaWiki:Noarticletext-nopermission as the current revision is written in Chinese which not everyone can read. 202.144.170.1 02:26, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done except I just removed the links entirely. —Justin (koavf)TCM 02:42, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.
And also MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer-anon-range. I forgot it when I posting the request. 202.144.170.205 02:44, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
 Done. -- Yahya (talk) 10:01, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And also test2wiki:Template:Anontools/ipv4, please review this revision. 132.234.135.68 05:02, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
 Done That edit is fine. —Justin (koavf)TCM 05:21, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Possible WP:NOT edits by an user who is blocked in enwiki

Hello, there was a user, User:Abrown1019, after being blocked in enwiki on 11 October 2023, came to testwiki and created an incubator-like test wiki which claims it has no relationship with Wikipedia (see Special:Redirect/page/153251). I highly believe that the user is not here to test. 149.135.104.154 01:55, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 06:39, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
