Chillinit claims highest new entry

It’s four straight weeks on top of the ARIA Albums Chart this week for Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version), the longest she has spent at #1 with a re-recorded album, while Aussie rapper Chillinit scores the highest new entry of the week.

Chillinit steps onto the chart at #3 with his mixtape 420DNA. He has racked up three top 10 albums: The Octagon hit #2 in 2020, Full Circle also peaked at #3 also in 2020 and Family Ties got to #5 in 2021. 

Drake’s For All The Dogs bounces back up the chart from #21 to #4 thanks to the release of the Scary Hours edition with six additional tracks. The album hit #1 for one week in October, becoming his fifth chart-topper here. 

Coldplay are the latest to experience the tour effect, with Live In Buenos Aires soaring from #43 to a new peak of #7 following the band’s two sold-out concerts in Perth (they will return to Australia late next year for four shows). Released in 2018, the album had previously climbed to #18.

Rockstar by Dolly Parton debuts at #16. It is her 49th studio album; her first, Hello I’m Dolly, was released in 1967. It’s also Dolly’s 15th top 50 album in Australia, stretching back to 1979, when Great Balls Of Fire peaked at #48. She has reached the top 10 twice, with Blue Smoke (#7 in 2014) and Pure and Simple (#9 in 2016). 

The album was inspired by her nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which she initially rejected because she isn’t a rock singer, then accepted: “I figure if I'm going to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I better do something to to earn it,” she told an interviewer last year.

The 30-track album includes nine originals, 21 covers and duets with Elton John, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Miley Cyrus (Dolly’s god daughter), Ann Wilson, Steve Tyler, John Fogerty, Brandi Carlile, Emmylou Harris, Steve Nicks, Peter Frampton, Sting, Debbie Harry, Lizzo, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow and more.

Evanescence’s 20th anniversary reissue of Fallen returns to the chart at #21. The album spent three weeks at #1 here in early 2004, fuelled by the #1 single Bring Me To Life and the #4 hit My Immortal. 

The 40th anniversary edition of Cold Chisel’s live album Last Stand enters at #29, lifted from a 1984 documentary that featured the band’s final concerts in December 1983 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. The soundtrack wasn’t released until 1992 and peaked at #8 on the ARIA Albums Chart. 

On the Singles Chart, Jack Harlow holds at #1 for a second week with Lovin On Me, equalling the two-week #1 run First Class had last year, while Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae scores her third hit with Exes, new at #15. Her debut album, Think Later, lands on 8 December.

Breaking back into the top 40 off the back of viral TikTok success is Ocean Alley’s Confidence, their 2019 triple j Hottest 100 winning anthem from 2018’s Chiaroscuro. The track sits at #40 on the singles chart, and is currently #1 on Spotify’s Viral 50 – USA playlist.
