Shumkov, Russia's Top Lawyer In 2012, Found Dead In Moscow
Dmitry Shumkov, a businessman and investor who was Russia's Lawyer of the Year in 2012, was found dead at his office complex in Moscow in an apparent suicide December 4.Shumkov, who played a role in Russian President Vladimir Putin's 2012 re-election campaign, was found hanging in a large closet in a luxury apartment at the complex in the Federation Tower skyscraper. Witnesses said Shumkov was seen in the building before he was found, and did not seem particularly agitated. Shumkov was born in 1972 in Sarapul. He worked during the 1990s in the federal prosecutor's office and later founded a law firm, Provcom, that was reorganized as the Law Group.Shumkov had interests in various investment projects involving the rebuilding of Moscow's downtown area, including Moscow's Kitaigorodsky Proezd and Varvarka streets, close to the Kremlin.Shumkov also had ownership interests in the Olympic sports compound in Moscow and lucrative Norilsk copper and nickel deposits.Based on reporting by TASS, Life News, and the Jewish Times
