Andra Day will join the second season of the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series on the Disney+ service.
Day will star as Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and also the mother of regular character Annabeth Chase (played Leah Sava Jeffries) in the show.
In a video statement, Day says: “I can’t wait to bring her to life and work alongside such talented actor. Stay tuned for this epic journey y’all.”
She marks the latest casting for the second season following Daniel Diemer playing Tyson the Cyclops, Tamara Smart as Zeus’s demigod daughter Thalia Grace, and actresses Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal and Margaret Cho as the Gray sisters.

In the new run, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood a year after the events of the first season and soon sets off on a journey off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits him.
Riordan executive produces season two with showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, Rebecca Riordan, Craig Silverstein, Bert Salke, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler and Sarah Watson.
