2021 European all-around champion Nikita Nagornyy (RUS) has continued his winning ways taking gold on floor and silver on pommel horse and rings on the first day of apparatus finals at the Basel 2021 European Championships.
Switzerland’s Giulia Steingruber (vault) and Angelina Melnikova (uneven bars) took home the two available gold medals on women’s side, with Greece’s Eleftherios Petrounias (rings) and Armenia’s Artur Davtyan (pommel horse) joining Nagornyy (gold on floor) on the men’s side.

Nagornyy clinches European floor title at Basel 2021
Nagornyy took home the gold on floor exercise after completing a highly difficult routine [6.8 D-score], including a huge triple back in piked position, which is also known as the ‘Nagornyy’.
With 15.166 points he secured his second European title on floor exercise after taking home gold at the 2016 European championships. Home-favorite Benjamin Gischard (SUI) grabbed his first individual European medal with silver (14.966).
The bronze went to Italy’s Nicola Bartolini, whose close to perfect executed exercise scored him 14.666 points to take his first European individual medal.

Fourth European vault title for Steingruber
Switzerlands’s Giulia Steingruber won her fourth European vault title after taking gold in 2013, 2014 and 2016. An average of 14.824 points for her two vaults helped her to take the gold ahead of 2021 European all-around bronze medallist Jessica Gadirova (GBR), who added a second medal to her tally. Top qualifier Gadirova scored 14.466 points.The Swiss superstar reacted:
For me it is a dream that has come true. It's very special to have taken this title. I was very nervous going into this final today but completely relied on my body and trusted myself that it would work out.
2021 European all-around silver medallist Angelina Melnikova (RUS) won her second medal at Basel 2021 as she grabbed bronze on vault.

Davtyan wins gold in dramatic pommel final
The pommel horse final at Basel 2021 included various falls and only the top four finalists managed to stay on the horse. Armenia’s Artur Davtyan secured himself the gold with 14.266, with Nikita Nagornyy (RUS) in second. Although the two gymnasts both scored 14.266, Davtyan ended in top because of a higher execution score. Joe Fraser (GBR) grabbed bronze with 14.066 points while favourite Rhys Mcclenaghan suffered a fall.

Melnikova redeems herself after all-around ache
Angelina Melnikova (RUS) redeemed herself on uneven bars after her fall on the event during yesterday’s all-around final. Melnikova scored 14.500 on uneven bars to clinch the European title. Melnikova’s teammate Vladislava Urazova took silver (14.333), with Amelie Morgan from Great Britain in third (14.100).

Petrounias shines to take fifth European title
2016 Olympic champion Eleftherios Petrounias was simply unbeatable as he posted 15.400 to finish well ahead of Russia’s Nikita Nagornyy (15.033) and Italy’s Salvatore Maresca (14.900).
Petrounias grabbed his fifth European title on rings, following his wins in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
2019 World champion and 2020 European champion Ibrahim Colak (TUR) missed the podium and finished in
