ジョン・ロジー・ベアード

ジョン・ロジー・ベアード（John Logie Baird、1888年8月13日-1946年6月14日）[1] は、スコットランドの電気技術者・発明家。史上初めて動く物体をテレビで遠距離放送することに成功した。また、世界初の完全電子式カラーテレビ受像管も発明。ベアードのテレビシステムは電気機械式であり、後にウラジミール・ツヴォルキンやフィロ・ファーンズワースの完全電子式システムに取って代わられたが、ベアードのテレビ放送の成功や後のカラーテレビ開発における功績はテレビ史上重要である。2002年、BBCが行った「100名の最も偉大な英国人」の投票で44位に入った[2]。2006年にはスコットランド史上の偉大な科学者10人に選ばれ、スコットランド国立図書館の 'Scottish Science Hall of Fame' に選ばれた[3]。"Baird" はイギリスでテレビのブランド名として今も使われている。
