Will the user of the data consider different parts of an expedition as series of an expedition?

My modelling challenge (approximately 3 sentences):
The Wikidata WikiProject Research expeditions group would like other Wikidatians to run their eye over the Research Expeditions schema and let us know if they have any feedback. See Wikidata WikiProject Research Expeditions project properties page https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Research_expeditions/Properties.
Much of my thinking regarding the schema can be found in this lengthy google doc https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AIYu3YuvvFRYSq_HJYFjiZQcApYYy0QseBMsNcziwvw/edit?usp=sharing This is where some of our group have been discussing the schema and raising issues or clarifications.

Issue: we have an "instance of" or "subclass of" question for items dealing with groups or series of research expeditions. Currently these are modelled in two separate ways in Wikidata.

My possible solutions:
One approach would be have an instance of statement using the Wikidata item “research expedition series” Q122861378 https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q122861378. See for example https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6054238 (International Weddell Sea Oceanographic Expeditions) and https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q112713303 (Yale Peruvian Expeditions)
Another approach is adding the statement “subclass of” “expedition” see for example https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q87032658 (Florissant Expeditions)
Currently the Research Expeditions group prefers the first approach (see the notes in this very long discussion document about the proposed schema in general https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AIYu3YuvvFRYSq_HJYFjiZQcApYYy0QseBMsNcziwvw/edit?usp=sharing) but we want guidance from the wider Wikidata community.

Notes:
Considering a wikimedian in residence at Te Papa( the National Museum of New Zealand) to have a pilot project to put the schema in action.

In the LOD world the library world is using "meeting" for expeditions https://bibfra.me/vocab/lite/Meeting/

Outcome from discussion: Group agreed that the first approach is likely the most logical. Other discussion raised the issues with research expedition series item https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q122861378 In particular is it an "instance of" "expedition". As a result of discussion "instance of" series https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q20937557 has been added to the research expedition series item.

Comment: I missed this session, but I agree that the consensus outcome is great.I have added P31 = expedition series to Q7122646 (Pacific Railroad Surveys) and I'll follow your model to expand that item.- PKM

Notes
There's an instance of a notable tree which works, but it would be nice to identify which type of tree it is as well
Heritage designation is often used https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P1435
This works, but it doesn't easily designate which type of tree it it
Property:P10241 (individual of taxon), works for a monument which is a specific tree, done : https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q12595673#P10241. What about a forest?
[forest] has part(s) of the class [species] (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P2670)
Could you do instance of taxon, then specify a high level taxon like "tracheophyta"
the link for taxon found at location is https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P6803

... what about massacres? Do they have entityschemas? Seemingly no and maybe they need one

merge field of work and field of specification ?
Could go either way. And we already have so many properites and there is confusion about what to use when similar properties exist. Caution should be used before deciding to split.
What if we add a super property on top of these which would then query everything underneath it

Regarding museums, we don't have something to cover what a museum is about. But concerns that the field of item is so broad that it wouldn't be able to map to other onthologies well. Field of genre could work but there's an increasing need for modeling organization. Field of item may be too similar to 'part of'.

Comment: I have always used "main subject" for the focus of a museum. I used "field of work" mostly for people to indicate an area of study or work specialization - and I use it a lot. - PKM

I think it's really good to standardize the quality of the Wikidata Wikiproject documentation page in order to clarify the current consensus regarding each specific niche's data modeling scheme. At the very least, there should be a minimum set of elements that should exist on the Wikidata Wikiproject documentation page.

I just took a glance at the Wikiproject Research Expedition page, and it seems quite perfect to me. It includes the main purpose, the model item, properties, and a collaborative document that explains and discusses the schema in great detail.

So, here are the key takeaways for me :

1. Identify all prominent Wikidata Wikiprojects throughout the entire Wikidata platform.
2. (Optional) Can we "map" each Wikidata item to its respective umbrella Wikiproject? If we can do that, we would be able to sort each Wikiproject based on their size (number of items contained).
3. For each identified Wikiproject (starting with the largest one), standardize the quality of its documentation page.
4. (Optional) Also, is there a Wikiproject for the Wikidata Upper-level ontology? Perhaps we should document that as well. This Wikiproject would serve as the governing authority over all the other Wikiprojects.
