Poverty incidence (Philippines)
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Generic
Motivation
[edit]This information is already available in English wikipedia as manual entry in infoboxes. We hope that the creation of this property would be used in other Wikipedia language projects. This property is different from HDI as it has a different computation. Exec8 (talk) 10:52, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

- In what way is this concept specific to the Philippines? ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 19:05, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
- I really agree the data is important to include on Wikidata. I'm unable to find a generic poverty property, would it be possible to make this 'Poverty incidence' and have Philippines as one of the qualifiers? --John Cummings (talk) 13:38, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- Support useful. I think it can be generic, provided we standardize the units, i.e. the Philippines data comes as a percentage, but other countries may track poverty incidence per mille capita, for example. If we agree the property would be "Poverty incidence percentage", other figures can easily be transformed to percentages. Asaf Bartov (talk) 08:50, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
- Support definitely a useful agree with Asaf on generic "Poverty incidence percentage" , it'd be nice to enable multiple data units, but if one generic data unit then percentage is the logical choice. just a quick search the Australia Bureau of Statistics also provides similar data [1] Gnangarra (talk) 11:37, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
- Support per others for a generic property applicable to all countries. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 13:02, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

@Ijon, Bodhisattwa, Gnangarra: it's unclear to me why you use the support template when there isn't yet a proposal that looks the way you want to support. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 15:18, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
- Then I'll explain: I support the proposal as it stands. Additionally, I think (but haven't done the research to be certain) that a generic property could be created, potentially making this Philippines-specific property unnecessary. My comment was meant to raise the possibility, but also signal I am not volunteering to do the research it would take to determine whether a generic property is practical or whether there would be so many cases where it would be inapplicable that it would be confusing to have a seemingly-generic property. If you do have the time and inclination to do that research, by all means do it and share your thoughts with us. If not, and no one else does either, I support creating this property, so that this data, that has a volunteer ready to add using it, can be added to Wikidata soon. - my explanation: the proposal is sound, the property is valid for the data set. Like the others have suggested I see the potential for there to be consideration of something more generic as its a similar data type for many countries. To make a common unit of measure(UOM) will take further research as to what is the best UOM to use and how to convert all UOM to a universal format. None of those thoughts should stop the proposal from going ahead, perhaps one for each country with their actually UOM will be the better way to go. Gnangarra (talk) 02:19, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

- Support Seems like a useful property and definitely information that would fit well on Wikidata. A good development would be functionability for other countries as well. Tanzania (talk) 08:37, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
- Support this proposal. Great addition of information about poverty conditions (by statistics) of various Philippine cities and municipalities, in a centralized way (thru Wikidata). JWilz12345 (talk) 09:27, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
