English: The English name translates Ethnikos Drymos Vikou-Aōou, a name that is based on two gorges constituting the park: the Vikos, through which the Voidomatis River drains to the NW, and the Aōos, from which the Aōos River drains W. The Voidomatis originates within the park, which contains peaks of the north Pindos mountains. The Aoos comes from further west, on the south slopes of Pindos National Park, which is on the east, from a Natura 2000 point of view. In pre-Natura 2000 times the definition of Pindos National park was somewhat amorphous, comprising any location of the north Pindos range. Thus the Vikos-Aoos is portrayed as part of it by some authors. The Natura 2000 area, however, does not extend so far west. To the W of the Vikos-Aoos park the two rivers merge, the Voidomatis being considered the tributary. The Aōos (Greek form) flows north to the Albanian border, where it becomes the Vjosa. It runs north through other tributary stages until it turns west to join the Adriatic. The Vikos-Aoos park is in Epiros, Greece. Most of the Natura 2000 Pindos park, however, is in West Macedonia, both part of Greece.
