Comment on Nordisk Familjebok subgalleries
[edit]Hi. You pointed out that about half of the images aren't in the Nordisk Familjebok subgalleries. For a motivation of why se Talk:Nordisk familjebok. /Lokal_Profil 23:58, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi - what I meant to say was that on the page Nordisk familjebok/Riksdagens bibliotek - Öyen, half the pictures come up as black squares (which to me indicates the picture is missing). Sorry for the confusion. Deadstar 08:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Obst / Fruit
[edit]Hallo Deadstar. -- Ilion 22:44, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hallo Ilion. I asked the same question from Herby (What is the position on pages named in Japanese etc? Put them in the commons-jp (etc.) category? Or check and see what the page is about & try and go from there to put them in an English language cat?) to which Herby answered above (under "OK" header): "I would rather this went to VP - I am not sure of the answer, so no answer is better than a wrong one". (And to be honest, I don't actually know what "VP" is... but am too afraid to ask...)
- So I'm not sure. I put the category "Fruit" on "Obst" so it came off the "uncategorised pages" list. I have seen many sites on that list with a title in a foreign language (from names of fish to names of countries), which are now linked to an English-language category, imho the best way until there is an official decision on how to handle this. Sorry I can't be of more help. Deadstar 07:46, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry - VP - Commons:Village pump, do please ask if you are unsure of things (only way to learn!). And what I came here for - Thanks a lot for the cleanup work - it is helpful. Regards --Herby talk thyme 11:34, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Categorynames
[edit]Morning...
In relations to your edits in Category:Steam turbine and Category:Water turbine: Should the Gallerynames also be like Steam Turbines or Water turbines?
--D-Kuru 15:11, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- I don't mind the gallery names being singular or plural. Categories should be plural, this makes it easier for people to "guess the category" when they upload their pictures (as well as being in line with policy of course). Deadstar 15:19, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Dear Sir,
Although we speak both english I think that we have a very nice problem of communication. Apart from saying that I made the photos from old documents (by the way somebody who would write an article on the US dollar bank notes and put a photo of one, shoud he refer to the american treasury ?) I do not understand that you cancel without even answering my message. It would have be more positive to say what kind of information is needed and how I am supposed to get them, probably certified by a public notary. Re:GFDL/te
[edit]All the uncreated GFDL templates get heavily hit; Herby and I are in a never-ending crusade against them. As you can probably tell from my *ahem* interesting deletion summaries it gets a bit annoying, yes! They were redirected to the main template for a while, but having bluelinks was misleading and didn't facilitate new translation (see the first message here). Keeping them unprotected is worthwhile, as we often get translations from passing users from other wikis who edit without creating an account - or new users who create one specifically for that purpose. It is easier to spot new templates and delete them in the hopes of getting worthwhile translations some day. Already in the past three or four months or so (since I started looking out for them) we've gotten two or three new translations. Herby and I probably have every uncreated template on our watchlists by now, so we find them relatively fast; for now I think we'll just leave them and keep deleting. A translation eventually makes the deletions in the meantime worthwhile ;) -- Editor at Large • talk 09:47, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Your message about Phytoecia
[edit]High, here is my sin standing up against me.
This is the story: There are two beetles, Phytoecia caerulea and Phytoecia coerulescens. They look a little bit the same, if you have only a superficial look. There is a German rather famous writer of books for identification of insects (Heiko Bellmann). In one of his books he mixed up the two species too, so that the beetle with the wrong name you can find in the network too. Because I have both species in my collection, I both put them to Commons (at 2.Okt.2006 with the names Phytoecia caerulea and Opsilia coerulescens) and afterwards (putting one pictures in the article, which was already done and without picture) I realized, that I made caerulea coeruleus and coeruleus caerulea. Therefore I checked the usage, and realizing that besides me nobody used the pictures, I deleted both pictures at once (6.Okt. 2006), that is I asked for that. Then I wrote to Mr Bellmann to make shure, that he was wrong and I was right (after the Standard German books for identification FHL). He thanked me, because he had not yet realized his mistake. In order to make shure, that the old pictures are deleted, I waited several weeks and after that I put the same pictures, but now with the right names in Commons again (21.Nov.2006). So, the versions now in Commons are correct. If the old pictures are still in Commons, I don't know what I have to do, because they should be deleted. If you know, just do it. Thanks so far, --Siga 20:42, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Answer
[edit]I do not speak Spanish, I speak Catalan that him very different. They are not the same language, the Catalan him the language typical of Catalonia, my country. The Spanish how you say, does not exist, the one that everybody knows for Spanish is the Castilian and this is for me an imposed language.
I am a member of the in Catalan Viquipèdia and I dedicate to editing articles in Catalan language on Romania.
Only I want to know how it is possible that an image is loaded in the English Wikipedia in the Commons can not be. How is it possible?
Because not him everything much simpler?
--Hugoaes 15:40, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
I do not understand
[edit]Well the truth is than, because I am still not knowing how an image can be erased in Commons and the same image in the Wikipèdia in English it is not erased. Are the same rules not applied?
--Hugoaes 15:56, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Answer again
[edit]To the viquipèdia in Catalan they do not leave us to load images and they force us to loading to Commons with them. I do not find exactly that the page of the Wikipèdia in English they can have the images that they want and in Commons there are not the images that there are in the Wikipedies. Everything should be unified in Commons. In all ways I find it all very complicated.

[edit]hi the image i uploaded it becouse there was a discusion on a diagram i made on the FP. i placed to deletion as soon as i uploaded becouse it is a copyrighted image and i didnt want anyone to use it by mistake. still as you well say i didnt complete the resquest to give it time for the argument to finish. the last thing i did was to change the copyright status in the hope it would go to expedit deletion. and also left a mesage in the deletion request. if you are administrator please delete the image since it has no use anymore. Source
[edit]If you explain me, what "source" means in the case of a digital camera, I surely will add it... --Mathae 22:34, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Why is that important? Anyway, as you may see, the author is given, ie. Stipich Béla (who btw. agreed to have his photos placed under the licences). Isn't it quite evident that he made the photo without stating it? In other words: why are these two options necessary in such cases? (I'm not hostile towards you, I simply regard giving the source useless tautology, since with a little common sense one can figure the situation out.) --Mathae 21:18, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi. Please reconsider your tag on the subject request, now that I have uploaded a replacement. Thanks! — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 20:21, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, I thought policy was to keep as much as possible, even if the picture is superseded / low quality etc? Deadstar (msg) 09:14, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- Superseded images (which I think applies here as it is a similar but not same image) no longer get deleted. The general guidelines tell me it isn't in the duplicate category. If it falls under the "Redundant/bad quality" images it would be a reason for deletion, but other projects still might need a file with just a headshot (and so even then it's not a certain reason for deletion). That's all. Deadstar (msg) 11:40, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Gefeliciteerd, Beste Administrator!

Deadstar/Archive 2007, gefeliciteerd!

Concerning the source
[edit]Sorry for answering late, but I hardly ever check Commons... so if it's possible, could you please answer on my huwiki discussion-page? (:) I see what you mean, but unfortunately Béla only gave me oral permission to license his photos under multilicense. Do I have to ask him again to write it, or is my word enough? (Believe me, if one wanted, he could simply forge a letter of permission, so I think this e-mail stuff isn't necessary at all.) Anyway, if you insist, I will ask him. --Mathae 18:24, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Some help sought on licensing issues
[edit]I've been trying to sort out rights issues on some images that were moved over from the nl: wikipedia and places (absurdly) in Category:Music by country and Category:Musicians by country. Most of these I'm able to work through what needs to be done, but some (all from nl wikipedia) seem to have probable licensing problems, so I'm hoping that you can help sort this out, since you are more likely to know the people in question. I'm afraid I still don't get the procedures here on Commons for dealing with a dubious (but not blatantly problematic) image. The process, insofar as I thought I'd learned it, seems to keep changing, and I can't find any clear guidance.
Image:Javelins.jpg has a claim of "own work", but there is no further explanation and it is an obviously posed photo from the 1960s. I frankly doubt the claim (though, of course, I've uploaded a couple of photos I took that long ago myself).
Image:Gemueseistkrieg.jpg is clearly an album jacket. Is nl:Gebruiker:Geldgeschenk really in a position to release this into the public domain? His user page suggests he would have been about 20 years old at the time the album was released, and doesn't indicate any business association with a record label. It seems unlikely to be his work.
Anyway, any help you can give in following these up would be greatly appreciated. - Jmabel | talk 06:50, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Similar issues on Image:Feverdream.jpg. Obviously a publicity photo. Unless is Daniël Baggerman, there seems to be a problem here. - Jmabel | talk 22:11, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Also Image:Nl-Leaves' Eyes-article.ogg. I can understand just enough to guess that there is probably no copyright problem (it seems to be about the history of some musical group), but the description is useless (just says who is speaking, not what he is speaking about) and the categories are definitely inappropriate. Can you possibly sort this one out as well? Thanks. - Jmabel | talk 17:02, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
Image:Barry gray.jpg looks problematic, too. If I read nl:Overleg_gebruiker:TheoDeKlerk#Foto's correctly (again, my Dutch is very weak), this matter was raised before and not resolved. - Jmabel | talk 23:35, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I had a look at these:
- Image:Javelins.jpg - I have nominated for deletion as there are some gaps in the licensing story.
- Image:Gemueseistkrieg.jpg, I can't find any definite answer, as the whole project seems quite low-fi, and as such they might just have released it under a free license, but probably not by the user.
- update I have now nominated this for deletion. The recordcompany page has a copyrighted sign on it. Deadstar (msg) 08:17, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- Image:Feverdream.jpg - I have nominated for deletion + left message with user.
- Image:Barry gray.jpg - I have left message with user, who is quite knowledgeable about this person it seems. He noted that "portrait rights" had expired (this is the right of the person in the photo to object to its publication) but I explained that there still probably are copyrights for the author, and asked him whether he knew who this was.
- I haven't had the chance to listen to the ogg, but will get around to that soon I hope. Deadstar (msg) 11:35, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. With reference to your remarks on my talk page about how one proceeds on this sort of thing: yes, I usually do more or less the same. Here, much of the trail is in a language where I am basically "deciphering" rather than reading, so I decided to turn to someone who had a better chance of following the trail. (Basically, the extent to which I can read Dutch is the extent to which it resembles German.) - Jmabel | talk 16:43, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Another one with similar issues: Image:Koelman & Heifetz 1979 .jpg. If I follow right, this now makes an improbable claim that the author wasn't really the person the uploader said it was, but was, in fact, that uploader. Seems totally bogus to me. - Jmabel | talk 00:15, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- Have nominated this for deletion as well - I have a suspicion it was uploaded by someone close to Rudolf Koelman, and permissions are probably in order, it's just that it needs to be set on paper and into OTRS if it's to stay. + the remark about using it for wikipedia isn't what commons is about. Deadstar (msg) 08:11, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Politicians of France
--Foroa 12:52, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Redundant categories
[edit]The page, Millie and Christine McCoy, is already listed in Category:Conjoined twins. The page (Millie and Christine McCoy) and the category (Category:Millie and Christine McCoy) present identical content so it's redundant to have both listed in Category:Conjoined twins. -Kyd 16:26, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think it can be confusing to have both the page and the subcategory for the same topic listed in a parent category. I thus removed the pages from Category:Conjoined twins, placing them inside the applicable subcategories instead, which allows the pages to still be accessed from the top-level conjoined twins category (e.g., Category:Conjoined twins -> Category: Millie and Christine McCoy -> Millie and Christine McCoy [page]) but also prevents duplicate listings from appearing in that category. I hope this resolves any confusion I might have caused. -Kyd 17:00, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Deadstar. I while ago you participated in a discussion on User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands about category naming for churches and the like. From what I could see, no consensus was reached, so the rename requests have not been processed automatically. I have copied the dicussion to Category talk:Churches and I kindly invite you to have further discussion there. Once a consensus has been reached, please re-request category renaming on User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands. Thank you for your participation and understanding. Cheers! Blanked pages
[edit]Yes, I did any reasons since I changed many names of identified and not-identified beetles and I did not always furnish a reason in order to save time. The situation of picture of beetle is very crazy and scattered: many wrong ID, many wrong names, misspellings, old synonyms, etc. I lost a lot of time to correct many ID, but the situation is still wrong.
In particular, Goliathus goliatus (Linnaeus, 1758) is the correct name. Gigantheus (moreover misspelling for giganteus) is the name given by Lamarck (1817) 60 years later, while conspersus is a name of a simple variety. Cfr. at http://www.biolib.cz/en/taxon/id55476 and http://zipcodezoo.com/Animals/G/Goliathus_goliatus.asp
I'm sorry for using wrong correction systems, but the number of erroneous ID is very large. I'll do according to your suggestion in the future. :-) --Vitalfranz 16:36, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Maps of Counties
[edit]I see your point, but I also noticed that the ones I am working on in "Uncategorized Categories" are maps of unincorporated towns and villages, the other category is towns and cities in the Counties. Personally I think there should be a reorganizing after the missing Categories are put in place. Many county images should not be mass placed in a main category but be placed in specific categories and then linked to the main State or Map Category. Do you see my point? Ours is logical of course but for now mine are non existtant with out a link. I am almost finished and we can plan something logical after if you don't mind. WayneRay 15:30, 5 November 2007 (UTC)WayneRay
- YES you are absolutely right, I just looked at Arkansas and it looks like $#!& compared to the example you had. I am at 4500 out of 5000 items to go through so give me a few minutes to finish and I will take a look and we can work something out along your suggestion. Thanks WayneRay 15:55, 5 November 2007 (UTC)WayneRay
Finished and look at this
[edit]gallery preview coding Let me know how I should proceed and what state to do so we don't duplicate things OK! WayneRay 16:10, 5 November 2007 (UTC)WayneRay
- Oh sorry, when you click on an individual image of a map etc you can see where it is linked or how many galleries or categories an image is linked to, without looking in the Edit field. Just thought you might like to use it. WayneRay 16:22, 5 November 2007 (UTC)WayneRay
PNG and SCG locator maps
[edit]I will answer on your page and you can answer on mine, so I dont get confused LOL. I see that problem in most States and I think I have solved it in Category:Maps of Maryland I put one in the other even though really they are identical. I worked on Maine and my home state of Alabama a bit till I saw you had been there and didnt want to mess up anything so cleaned up Alaska a bit. Also there needs to be a name change to match the higher order Category for Congressional districts; Old maps of . . . and Locator maps as well. WayneRay 16:14, 6 November 2007 (UTC)WayneRay
- Ok as I see it, to get rid of the duplicate County maps at the bottom of the Category:Maps of Missouri and to keep the word flow of the names in order, I would create Category:Locator maps of counties in Missouri and put Cat:Missouri county locator maps in that one and leave Cat:Locator maps connected to Maps of Missouri. and place all the duplicates in there, Make sense?? I did that in Maryland maps page WayneRay 16:24, 6 November 2007 (UTC)WayneRay
- Yes you are right, but the Higher Category is Category:Locator maps of cities in the United States NOT Maryland (or any other State) county locator maps, or That's what I meant, then as you say, put them all in one place. I will go back and correct my mistake WayneRay 16:38, 6 November 2007 (UTC)WayneRay
- Perhaps we're talking about different things here? I am NOT talking about city locator maps, just county ones? As far as I can see, "County locator maps of Missouri" are categorised in "Maps of Missouri" and "Locator maps of counties of the United States by state", which I think is correct?

- Yes I meant counties not cities, apologies.
- I have finished with the Maps of Missouri, the only improvement is perhaps that all the "maps of counties" could be caught under one category, so you end up with 4 links there, and then a couple of images. Have a look and see what you think.
- Perfect I will use MIssouri as the correct template. I am still working on Maryland for now, PS where are you, I am in London Ontario WayneRay 16:53, 6 November 2007 (UTC)WayneRay

- Thanks for your note, I was wondering what order you were using. I have moved and all was packed away for a week. Back on board now. I did some work on Alaska and California and a couple of eastern states. I will take a look at what you did this weekend Working on Illinois right now and finished Idaho WayneRay 17:33, 16 November 2007 (UTC)WayneRay

OTRS
[edit]Hum - interesting. I think there should be just a "padlock" with an OTRS link not the "open" email. So actually an issue is whether the "open" mail is actually valid licensing I guess? There are quite a chunk of folk with OTRS access as far as Commons is concerned (m:OTRS/personnel) so asking an active one of them may be good. Otherwise posting something on admin board/licensing might seem worthwhile?
All good thanks and I do see you working away - it is appreciated --Herby talk thyme 12:40, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Permission emails should be forwarded to permission-commons@wikimedia.org. This is the only way to get a mail in OTRS. Also, the first image you showed me does not have a sufficient permission for Commons. -- Bryan (talk to me) 20:28, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

- Actually I ve taken this photo from Image:Rheum nobile (photo Bill Baker).jpg. It's my fault. I ve made a copy past from the wikipedia in english. I will correct the informations. --Pixeltoo 12:55, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Farms in Germany vs. Farmhouses in Germany
[edit]Hallo deadstar, I hope, you are alive.
And I hope, you've read my statemant so far, that you've got, that a discrimination of category "Farmhouses in Xland" from category "Agriculture in Xland" is a step to improve the systematical structure of Wikimedia.
Only a few photos are or will be to subsume under both categories. Inside the country-bound categories of countries like France and Germany, it is rather useful to make the difference between types of houses than between regions, though sometimes a type of house is strictly limited to a special region, like Champagne or the Black Forest. Just all types of traditional farmhouses familiar in Hesse exist in neighbouring regions, too.--Ulamm 17:59, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Deletion request you might be interested in
[edit]I have just requested that Messier 102 be deleted (for now) since there are so many other Messier objects that don't have a gallery and because the one gallery with the one little image was disappointing more than helpful, informative or encyclopedic.
You actually took the time to put a category on that little thing so I thought you might have an opinion about its deletion or not. -- carol 01:05, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Re What to do
[edit]I agree - not completely straightforward. I've been told off for deleting things I was "fairly" sure about elsewhere so these days I'd tend to go for "nominate for deletion" with the note that "others input is needed"?
Equally I keep meaning to say it but the work that you do quietly is appreciated :) Thanks & take care --Herby talk thyme 14:57, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
cats
[edit]hi deadstar,
you added a category "Araneae" to several of the pictures of Hasarius adansoni i took some time ago. if you look under "Links" on their picture page, you will see that they are part of gallery pages. Only these are being categorized, and not under Araneae, but in this case under Salticidae, which is the spider family they belong to. if we just categorize all spider pictures as "spiders", this will render the category itself useless. in fact, it took me considerable time to clean up this cat, because that's what it used to look like and will again look like if some people (mostly me atm) don't check it from time to time and clean it up periodically. if you have any questions regarding spider categorization, just leave me a note :) cheers --Sarefo 13:57, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- Excuse me - our opinions differ on that matter. You are right: Not all images of spiders should be under Aranae. As you might have noticed, I have added categories to about 500 of your images, out of which I catalogued only a few under the Aranae (or other specific) category as I strongly believe the category should have at least a few examples of what it is about. If I look for a picture of a fierce looking spider, I don't know that it is called "Hasarius adansoni" or similar. I just look for "Category:Spiders" and get redirected to Aranae. And even then, there are no spiders to be found, just image pages.
- i think a better way to provide these illustrating pictures would be to add them to the cat page itself, as a mini gallery. never thought of this, but that could actually be nice.
- My opinion is that all images should have categories (which doesn't count for much as it is a free project, and you can revert all you want). I also realise that the Tree of life project have their own way of doing things. Unfortunately my "not knowing"/TOL project way of doing things means that if I want to find a picture of a big spider, I will have to find out what the latin name is first. *shrug* maybe I should just stick to using Google. Deadstar (msg) 15:33, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- it's not about being an expert or not. if you want to find a big spider, maybe it's best to create a page/cat 'big spiders'. the main way commons are used now is to provide images for wiki pages, and these also use the binomial nomenclature, just because it's a great way to categorize millions of species. on reverting, you have no idea how frustrating it is to spend many hours of mechanical work to revert the many hours of somebody else who in good faith vandalized a working system. it's *much* better to ask first, to get a feeling, and *then* put your effort into something. --Sarefo 22:51, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- I am sorry if I caused you hours of reverting, I honestly thought I only added a few (outstanding btw) images to their latin cats as examples. Let me tell you, I *do* know how frustrating it can be. And I think I *have* the feeling... as I said, I didn't categorise all 500 images you took in Cologne Zoo under their respective latin names.
- A small gallery at the top of the cat would be nice too I think. Oh I found this too btw: Talk:Araneae... it seems you have your work cut out for you there too! Perhaps that page (linked prominently from Category:Araneae) will do some of the things I would expect a category to do. I'll try and keep out of the way & will let you know if there are any spider questions. :) Kind regards, Deadstar (msg) 09:42, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- no, the hours of reverting were because of somebody else, i think the work you're doing is good, and yes, normally it would be great to have all pictures from a collection categorized, like i did for example with Pictures by Marshal Hedin. but for reasons i explained in my email, i'd really like to delete the cologne zoo cat, and don't want to do it by hand, because that *would* cause me hours of reverting. isn't there some automated way to do this?
- One more reason to do a small gallery on a cat page: if you add pictures using a cat tag, new people will think they should just dump their files in this cat. so imho cats should contain *no* catted pictures, only gallery pages.
- About the page Araneae: i think it is an abomination. it has no structure, a random collection of pictures, badly formatted. i mean, what is a heading "temp" supposed to mean?? and why does patrick paste *all* pictures of Eriophora transmarina? i think there is a place for pages like this, but there should be *selected* pictures, nicely structured. but go ahead, try to make something out of it :) here's what i'm doing for genera for some time now: Phidippus. note that the species pages are also catted at the family level, so the tree is flat, you can easily get an overview of species with pics within a family. cheers! --Sarefo 15:11, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

page Megalosoma /Coleoptera Scarabaeidae
[edit]Please delete this page!!!! Megalosoma is not an existing name. The correct name is Megasoma. Please do not change specialistic modifications if you are not expert! --Vitalfranz 12:25, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, you can request a page for deletion by adding a {{delete|reason=}} template. Deadstar (msg) 16:14, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- ah, that's one of the sladitzky ones i made much earlier :) those were on display there, not hidden in secret cabinets. the specimen was tagged Megalosoma elephas, that's why the image has this name. checking google, Megalosoma Burmeister, 1847 is a synonym for Megasoma Kirby, 1825 but you're right, this name should not be used. i added a rename template to the picture, and a redirect to the page, as it is a synonym, and not a typo. --Sarefo 20:10, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
cat/gallery hybrids
[edit]hi deadstar,
what do you think about this? it's a hybrid between a category and a gallery. i'm not totally sure it's a good idea, but it very well could be. this way you have the benefits of categories, and galleries, without the problem of maintaining two different pages. --Sarefo 10:58, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Oh I love it!! I love the way that you can see what you might need, rather than just the name of the page. Not sure if this has been thought of before though (& perhaps not used for some reason?) I do think that the pages need to be linked to the cat nevertheless, as they will end up on the "uncategorised pages" list otherwise. Merry Christmas btw :) -- Deadstar (msg) 15:24, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Image:Boolos.gif
[edit]Please advise precisely why you asked for this image to be deleted. Permission was obtained under the specific provisions of the GNU free use license from the Chairman of the Department of Linquistics and Philosophy of MIT, which owns the copyright. All of the required information was discussed with a previous administrator, who restored the image after telling me that I had fulfilled all requirements under Wikimedia Commons policies. Thank you. Roberterubin 11:16, 26 December 2007 (UTC)rerubin
- Hi, reason is at Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Boolos.gif - the permission on it stated that "it was ok to use", and on en: wiki it was under "wikipedia only" which is not free enough for commons. Undeletion requests can deal with you request to reinstate it again. This page will tell you how to send the permission you received to the OTRS archive for permissions. -- Deadstar (msg) 08:47, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Simple English
[edit]I have noticed you deleted the Simple English Main Page. Is their a good reason. If there is please discuss it on the Simple English Main Page Talk Page. It has been restored by an admin. --Anonymous101 07:47, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- I did what?!?! If I did I never meant to do it. I did see a gallery page on commons that had the simple main page pasted on it, but it was in the wrong place there as far as I could see it. I apologise. -- Deadstar (msg) 08:37, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Christams food
[edit]I changed that because IMO it's really connected. Christmas food is part of tradition. Some pictures was categorized in both categories and I thought it's better to make it simpler and to clear category:christmas traditions a little bit. That's why I did so. If you still think it's not a good idea I will discuss it with some other persons as well, to make me sure it's not only my idea. In other case pictures of food shouldn't be categorized as category:christmas traditions as well. Pilecka 13:28, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

unknown -> unidentified
[edit]hi deadstar,
i created these "Unknown xxx" cats/pages when there was no clear consensus, and they had really awkward names sometimes. "unknown" is the easiest to type, so i chose it :) but if you want, go ahead and rename the cat (+ the gallery pages of spider families) to "unidentified", as it *is* a bit more accurate. unknown suggests that they are not known to science. otoh, unidentified could mean the same thing... as there seems to be almost noone else working on spiders (sadly), i guess we just reached a consensus here :) cheers! --Sarefo 13:57, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
