[edit]Is is possible that this is misidentified? It says circa 1850 and he died in 1844, commercial photography began in 1840 with Daguerreotypes. RAN (talk) 03:55, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I've updated the date. Thanks for all your help with the categories! Greg Henderson (talk) 16:06, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
Adding spouse to image categories
[edit]See: File:Walter D. Anthony.jpg where I removed the spouse category. It is ok to have a category of one item. The problem with the second name is that there is now a bot that looks at the categories and adds that name to structured data with a depicts= statement. Her name will end up in the depicts= when the bot reaches those images and that will be false. You had a category challenged because you forgot to add the cat to the image and the cat was empty. It was not that the category only had one image. RAN (talk) 05:54, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the information. Greg Henderson (talk) 16:07, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
Transcribing
[edit]Can you finish transcribing this: File:Joseph Henderson (1826-1890) obituary in the New York Herald on October 12, 1890.png The transcription can then be added at Wikisource. RAN (talk) 06:18, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Did you use OCR or just by hand, word by word? --RAN (talk) 21:31, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking. I did it through Apple camera OCR and did check most of the text, but obviously missed a few words. Thanks for fixing the text. Greg Henderson (talk) 22:02, 2 September 2024 (UTC)

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. - @Bedivere: Did you say why Byington Ford Wedding Picture.jpg was deleted? The photograph was taken in 1922, so should be in public domain. I did not see any discussion on this picture. Greg Henderson (talk) 01:41, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
