Multi-licensing.

[edit]

I see you uploaded the image Image:Floppy-discs-8-5.25-3.5.jpeg that I think is a very good image. You have marked it under a non-commercial license, and since the commons don't accept non-commercial-only material the picture may be deleted. I don't want to lose this image, so I ask you to consider relicensing the image, something I can't see no problem with since you've already relicensed the image under the GFDL who allows commercial use of GFDL-licensed material. --Emuzesto 13:00, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Unfortunately, images cannot be undeleted, you have to do it if you still have the image. I can however, un-delete the image page (license info etc.) if you ask me. This said, I somehow fail to see the coherence between a GFDL and CC-BY-NC license. Projects that are CC-BY-NC could probably use a CC-BY-SA picture or something of the kind as it is less restrictive. But maybe I am not understanding the whole point here. Also, GFDL is a very restrictive license when it comes to print uses of the material (have to print the whole 14 pages of the GFDL alongside with the image, when a CC licence will allow you to get away with a little text. I am curious and interested about this dual licensing of yours though, if you have five minutes to explain its purpose :) notafish }<';> 18:47, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Why did you revert Image:Star of life.svg to again include the incorrect sentence and tone with 3 identical links? -- Jeandré, 2006-12-13t11:48z

I do not see a problem at all. Whats wrong with the "tone"? What part of the sentence is incorrect? What identical links are we talking about? Why are you removing relevant links to the necessary articles such as w:Star of Life? --Cat out 16:41, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I saw you speak Afrikaans and I was wondering if you could translate the welcome message. Thanks, Yonatan talk 14:24, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[synonymy]

Hi,

I wish you wouldn't do things like this. Today Monarda fistulosa is a synonym of Monarda didyma; tomorrow it may be reinstated as a species, or reinstated at variety rank, or given synonymy with some other species. But that plate will be an image of Monarda fistulosa for all eternity, because it is so by definition. Even synonyms must be well defined, and it is legitimate to define a synonym with reference to a figure. For all I know that image is the type specimen for the synonym; if so it would be a truly terrible idea to rename it to its current nae. But even if the figure isn't the type specimen for the synonym, I still say we should use the published name rather than updating to the modern name. Hesperian 12:47, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've disputed the speedy nom; discussion at Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Monarda fistulosa (Edwards).jpg. Hesperian 13:03, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not synonyms, delete and 3rd name suggestion. -- Jeandré, 2008-07-30t15:25z

I have recently closed that deletion request. Please update the image's description and replace the image wherever needed. Thanks, odder 12:14, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement

[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

[edit]
2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
