Categories
[edit]Hi. I noticed you have introduced a gallery into a category page. Categories list the images automatically, as I've stated in the edit summary, so having repeated images in the same page doesn't really make sense. If you want to add descriptions to the thumbnails of images (what is a very good idea), please use the Gallery namespace, this is, the default one.
An example: Compare this two pages Category:Albert Einstein (the category) and Albert Einstein (the gallery).
Each one have their advantages and disadvantages, for example, categories are updated automatically when you categorize an image, but galleries allow image descriptions.
See Commons:Categories and Commons:Galleries.
If you have any doubt, feel free to ask me in my talk page.
Thanks. FrancoGG ( talk ) 22:39, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Mistake
[edit]Could you please correct Image:Flag of Croatia.svg? The new colours seem fine to me, but you forgot to make the centre part white instead of transparent, as it is now. —Nightstallion (?) 09:59, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank a lot, I do not know how could this have happened. This is an appreciation of the greatest kind. Thanks again. -- Rainman 23:49, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Gladly, no problem at all! Thanks for correcting it so quickly. —Nightstallion (?) 11:38, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Flag of Croatia
[edit]The colours you displayed in the "crown" above the checkerboard symbol appear incorrect, you put the same blue of the bottom stripe of the Croatian flag into the sections of the "crown". From many of the flags I have seen, a light turquoise colour is in those sections that you changed. For proof, look up "flag of Croatia" at Corbis at this link [1] to find pictures of real Croatian flags, many are just privately made flags, BUT on the first page of results, there is one picture, named "0000267879-001 (RM)", which displays two government-used Croatian flags (with yellow trim, used on governmental flags) which are hanging from the government buildings that I mentioned earlier. The "crown" at the top of the flags in this picture shows a very light turquoise colour arranged from left to right in the first section of the "crown", the third section, and the fifth section. There may be dark blue in the second and fourth sections as you have put down, as the Flags of the World site [2] and a picture of the Croatian Coat of arms at this link [3] shows such a dark blue but it also shows a light blue colour which for the other sections, which is not the same as the bottom stripe's blue) Please look for yourself. User:R-41
I just found another, VERY official flag which shows the light turquoise colour in the sections of the "crown" described above. Its a picture from the Croatian parliament, showing a flag where you can make out turquoise in the sections of the "crown" portion of the coat of arms on the flag at this link, [4]. It does however show the dark blue in the other sections of the "crown" as you put. This is enough evidence for me, I'm going to put the turquoise back into the specified sections of the "crown". User:R-41
Because it's the responsibility of the person who originally makes changes to one image to make changes to the images dependent on the first one. I invite you to change the colours on the original Flag of Croatia back to what you believe is right, but make sure you change the similar aspects of the dependent images as well. -- Denelson83 05:19, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

You know, protection doesn't mean an endorsement of the current version. I was pointed at that revert war and i proceted at the image on that moment, hoping you were able to agree on which tone of blue is the correct one. BTW: [5] uses Minestrone's tone. Also, i suspect the difference on the position of the Coat of arms is an error on one side when copying. --Platonides 22:11, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Presidential_Flag_of_the_Republic_of_Croatia.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Presidential_Flag_of_the_Republic_of_Croatia.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. [edit]I didn't use certain standard when drawing the flag, since there are none. I just took the color from the Kremlin site. The colors look fine now. Now the arms needs to be changed to reflect the colors. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 23:15, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Recent deletion requests
[edit]I want to apologize if I came off sounding too harsh in my closing remarks in your recent deletion requests. It just that there has been a lot edit-warring over flags lately and I was starting to get a little frustrated. It wasn't directed at you; I was just kinda responding to the whole situation. So please don't take it personally.
I hope you understand we got more than enough work on COM:DEL with all the copyvios, and it really isn't the place to discuss how images are used, named, described, and/or categorized. It's not that these things don't matter, they do, it's just deletion is not the way to solve them. We have other methods to deal with those issues (such asRename, like I see you added). And why keep fake flags? Simply because they are used for some reason or other. Someone finds them useful. Actually, there are many reasons why factually wrong/made up images belong on Commons. For example, if a image has been mentioned in a Wikipedia talk page archive, we should leave it there for history's sake.
Anyway, I hope you and Liftarn (and whoever else) can agree upon better names. I would suggest maybe going a little less descriptive if you can't agree. Something like Image:Flag. :) No, I don't know, but good luck. And sorry again if I sounded a little unfriendly. Cheers, - Rocket000 02:08, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit]If the image you linked is considered the official one, it is just a matter to adjust some few details – that is the advantage of SVG files. Just to check: by "silver strings" you refer to specifically which RGB/CMYK color? Black? Gray? Which percentage of gray? If you could find the official RGB/CMYK composition of each colour, it would be great. Cheers. --Tonyjeff 12:11, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Picking me? Haha, sure not! Even because I agree with you, about improving the SVG. I just cannot agree that the PNG is similar to the JPG, and the SVG not! Png and Svg are BOTH wrong because they are identical! But, like I said, there is no problem – let's make things better. Cheers. --Tonyjeff 16:04, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

STOP HARASSING ME AND INSULTING MY EDITS!
[edit]I have had it with you Rainman! I have absolutely had it with your insulting attitude and calling my uploads of the flag of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia as baseless and stupid. I have never done that to you. I have a VERY GOOD reason for why the colours of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia civil and state flag are the way they are - the coat of arms of Yugoslavia on the state and naval ensigns are based on the Serbian flag which was the same in 1918 as it is today. I warn you Rainman, one more insult from you against me and my well-intentioned edits will result in me reporting you, do you understand?--R-41 23:23, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Telling me I'm "seeing ghosts". All I wanted is for you to be more civil, but since you have no respect for me and my edits, I will report you now.--R-41 01:16, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, fine, I'll use your colours, I'm basing my views on a hunch which I still think is probably right. I will change the other flags to match your tricolour's shades of blue and red, and also I have to make a correction to the Kingdom's coat of arms anyway. But I will resize the SVG pixel size so that those who don't have svg editors can save a larger png version of the flag. I will try to find sources, but stop being so rude in accusing me of "POV".--R-41 02:24, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- I will remove it from the village pump. I suggest from this point on, BOTH OF US, post our sources of why we think the flag is one set of colour shades or another. I just don't appreciate the manner in which you have responded in the past which accuses me of "POV" as if I'm doing something villainous by thinking that the colours are a different shade than the ones you propose. I will use your colours as long as no evidence exists for mine.--R-41 03:05, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Accusing me of preaching!
[edit]Rainman, I thought we agreed to stop these offensive tones. On the state flag of Yugoslavia image page you accuse me of "preaching". If I am mistaken, say I am mistaken, politely show why I am mistaken, and do nothing more.
What colours do you want for the Kingdom's flag
[edit]The colours you reverted to, I believe are the ones that are attributed to the flag of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia according to a French source as claimed on Flags of the World (FOTW) webpage. Those are the only known claimed colour shades for Yugoslav flags as far as I know. To be honest, the current colours displayed for the SFRY flag and FRY flags right now are only best guesses, as people have claimed that the FOTW colours to not appear to be correct. But there is no evidence of what the shades are, other than FOTW. For some time I doubted whether they were correct, as I haven't seen actual Yugoslav flags with those colours. I won't change the FRY flag to those until I get support from others, as I have been accused of imposing my opinions. Do you believe that Wikipedia should follow the declared colour shades of FOTW? Check FOTW at this link [6] to see if you haven't already for the declared colours of the FRY flag.--R-41 01:40, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Regarding this:
- Stop mascerading your actions as standardization.
- Please, do not accuse me for no reason. I have no hidden agenda.
- It is simply not whatever you would like the users to think.
- I don't know what are you talking about. I'm just trying to make some logical changes. I don't have any hidden motives
- If you are doing standardisation of Croatia leave Yugoslavia at peace until some agreemen
- I'm just proposing some changes. Feel free to give different opinion. And, let me do the same. --Veliki Kategorizator 10:49, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

- I'm OK with using "Socialist" when it is used to distinguish it from kingdom. I apologise for not making it clear sooner. But, I see no reason for using word "former" since no other former country uses that word. Should we call the Roman empire "former Roman empire" ;). I suggest "Decorations of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia" or smt like that.

"Unsourced work"?
[edit]What are you talking about "unsourced work" for the flag of Yugoslavia? I SAID WHAT THE SOURCE WAS! It's Flags of the World webpage for the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia which uses a French source for the colour shades. The FRY flag was exactly the same as the SFRY, it just had the star removed. As there is no information for the Kingdom's flag, I assume that the FRY colours would be the best to apply, as not to be guessing. It is the ONLY source existing which shows colour shades for any Yugoslav flag. Previous colours have been based on best guesses by me and others, now I am going by sources alone, I thought you would be happy about that, but now you are upset even further! That source is the only one that literally defines the colours of a Yugoslav flag. If we do not use this source, we are just guessing, which you and Imbris were mad about earlier. So if you don't want to use this source, or resort to guessing, then the only alternative would be to just remove the flag images from Wikipedia, ad there is no information to back them up. The Flags of the World source is the only one available, if you can find another reliable source which literally defines the colours in pantone or RGB, etc., please enlighten me, if not, then don't complain.--R-41 00:00, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- As much as you are tired of me, I am tired of you. You simply oppose all my work because I don't agree with you. I have CHANGED my views on what the colours of some flags are, I have found sources, but you reject all of them. You Rainman are a hypocrite, and a destructive one. Every good-willed attempt I make, you shoot it down. Then what do you do, you just revert to something that was not done by me. You reverted the Croatian coat of arms to a completely inaccurate version which is not even similar to the one on your favorite page, WIPO! I cannot be civil when facing such uncivil attitude by you to everything I do, that's why I say that you are a hypocrite who refuses to accept even the Government of Croatia webpage which shows a detailed template of the flag (HAVE YOU EVEN LOOKED AT IT BEFORE JUDGING MY SOURCE!). I found the only source available for any Yugoslav flag, but you trash it, because its not what you want, and whatever you want it seems is simply a revert of whatever I do, and that is sickening. DON'T JUST REVERT MY EDITS IF YOU THINK I'M WRONG, PROVE WHY I'M WRONG, PROVE WHY THE FRY FLAG IS NOT RELATED TO THE SFRY FLAG, PROVE WHAT THE ACTUAL COLOURS OF THE YUGOSLAV FLAG WERE! THEN YOU CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT MY EDITS!--R-41 00:21, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 17:22, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Grbsfrj.gif
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Grbsfrj.gif. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Rainman. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Rainman~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.Yours sincerely, Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 05:07, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Flags of cities and towns of Croatia has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Template:PD-Croatia-exempt requires updating
[edit]Hi Rainman~commonswiki,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed Template:PD-Croatia-exempt is out of date. Could you update it? Thanks again. TadejM (t/p) 10:42, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
