Wikipedia:Articles for improvement/Nominations

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Secret Saturdays (talk | contribs) at 04:32, 19 May 2013 (Geography: Nominating one more entry and giving a support). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Articles

The following are nominations to become a today's article for improvement (TAFI) entry. Please do not nominate an article unless you are fairly certain that it meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Any nomination of an article that does not meet this criteria may be removed. Any user may nominate and support or oppose an article below, however only members of this project may close nominations as successful or unsuccessful.

Successful nominations have few or no objections and at least 3 supports. They are then moved to the holding area and from there into the schedule. Please add new entries to the holding area at the end of the section lists, to maintain chronological sorting (so that older entries there are scheduled first). Unsuccessful nominations can be archived after 10 days of no discussion.

Manhattan Transfer (novel) – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 70 daily hits

An extremely important and influential novel back in its day, yet widely forgotten about today. A Great Gatsby-esque work, "it focuses on the development of urban life in New York City from the Gilded Age to the Jazz Age as told through a series of overlapping individual stories." It's written by prolific novelist John Dos Passos, whose almost exclusively redlinked template is rather depressing. We can do better. --Coin945 (talk) 14:35, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wole Soyinka – (page view stats • edit • talk • history)

  • When he dies he will likely feature in the main page recent deaths section anyway, so why not get him into as a good a state as possible before then? With Dario Fo moving towards good article status this looks to be the living Nobel literature laureate in need of the most help. He was the first person in Africa and the diaspora to be given that award and I suppose, post-Achebe, he is the most recognisable living writer from Nigeria which, lest it be forgotten, has English as an official language so plenty of likely readers. 86.40.200.148 (talk) 13:48, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

When you get past the lists upon lists upon more lists of trivia, there's actually not that much to this article at all. User:Torvik today posted: "This is a very, very bad/inaccurate/poorly sourced/amateur/outdated article from the point of view of a modern urban planner. I will try and edit it if I have time, but I am very busy and just wanted others to know it's outdated and borderline against modern planning practice. I don't think there's a Wikipedia "tag" thing for that... For starters, compare this article to the one for mixed-use development. Also: Where did the 5% thing come from?? And why is that the first sentence?? "This type of property falls somewhere between residential and industrial property." What does that mean??? Ridiculous. Oh man, this article needs attention. Wow. Again, I'll try myself if I have time, but just wanted to make it known!". He/she has a point... BTW to most users this is probably pertinent to the game Sim City, where land is divided up into Commercial areas, Residential areas, and Industrial areas.--Coin945 (talk) 02:56, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Unbalanced. There's a section called "Public perception," which barely mentions the growing awareness of Kissinger's war crimes, and reads as though Christopher Hitchens is his only critic. For instance, there's no mention of the documentary "The Trials of Henry Kissinger". The spin is such that Kissinger could have written the article himself. Numerous contributors to the talk page agree that the article is unbalanced, but no one's stepped up to fix it. -- Everything Else Is Taken (talk) 01:25, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote the article several years ago as an inexperienced editor, and it has a huge impact on how we talk about international affairs, and could use a good overview of the scholarship. Might be a good place for collaboration, Sadads (talk) 17:19, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Let's Play (video gaming) – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 260 daily hits

A very important advancement in the digitisation and globalisation of gaming. Bare bones at the moment. We need imformation on the history of it, the makeup of a typical video, the channels devoted to it, the different genres they can be (comical/factual etc.), hybrids such as PewDiPie's screaming videos which are montages of the bits of his Let's Plays that he's scared in. The impact on the gaming industry - they are often copyright issues, but they arguably make the games even more popular. They are around for nostalgic games like Carmen Sandiego, reigniting their poopularity.--Coin945 (talk) 07:16, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
