Monal is a free and opensource XMPP client software, and application, for both iOS and MacOS.[1] It is among the rare XMPP client software supporting both OMEMO encryption, and Voice/Video communication, on Apple platforms, especially with Beagle, Snikket and Siskin.[2]
History
editMonal is a fork of XMPP client Sword, started in 2002. It's developpment took off almost two decades later, to renew the xmpp software clients on Apple devices.[3] In 2024, with Whatsapp, Telegram, and Signal, Monal is removed from Chinese AppStore, due to a government request.[4]

Quicksy
editIn 2024, the Monal team and Quicksy's developers agreed on forking Monal as a Quicksy adaptation for iOS.[8]
