Original research?

Much of this article is written as if it were an academic paper, or personal theorising. It presents one particular view of the subject, mostly without references, inline or otherwise. I've not got the background or sources to fix it, but I'm hoping some others will. Ian Page (talk) 21:26, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

One-sided, Inconsistent, and Incomplete

I completely agree with Ian, and unfortunately, like Ian, i don't have the expertise to fix this properly.

one example of the major problems in this article is that the opening definition is given as if the subject specifically relates to cinema. however, later in the body, credit for the origin is given to PT Barnum, who does *live* shows. And, if live shows do count as part of the origin and history of the 'star system,' then the Wild West shows of Buffalo Bill truly did have big-name 'stars' that were promoted. This is from the wiki article about Annie Oakley: "Oakley's "amazing talent"[4] and timely rise to fame[5] led to a starring role in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, which propelled her to become the first American female superstar."

that alone would discredit this whole article--based on the way it is currently written. The question is...is the subject matter even legit, or is it just not well-written? I am very worried that the writer created the term and placed it into wiki--thereby creating an identity for the term. hopefully, someone can investigate this before it becomes accepted without it being a real, peer-reviewed subject.

No, it's totally a legit term, just a not-great wikipedia entry. Like Ian said above, it's more like someone's research paper that they c/p into wikipedia. I think this topic would be better served as a subheading under the Studio system article. Amesville (talk) 18:58, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
