Philosophy
editI'm interested in copyleft and licensing, and I've been active at WP:MIRROR. Although this is important work, Wikipedia's own licensing is more important than keeping track of violators — that is, we need to constantly evaluate the validity of our own claimed licenses. Although more apparent in media files, where inadvertent copyright violations are frequent, this is also an issue for textual contributions. Shared or role accounts are particularly problematic, since the license grant is automatically suspect. I've found that in most cases, users who are contributing content can be persuaded to rename their accounts; blocking should always be a last resort.
Tools
edit- I'm responsible for the userpage vandalism filter, which automatically detects and prevents numerous types of unconstructive edits to all userpages. It will not interfere with a user editing their own page. If you are nonetheless experiencing false positives, or don't wish to have your page protected, let me know.
