editHi Albert. I've just stumbled upon the article for the Victorian Football Association and saw your comments on the talk page. I'm short on time and not up to speed on the topic, but I'd suggest starting a discussion at WikiProject AFL. Blarneytherinosaur gabby? 09:43, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
new: "History of broadcasting in Australia"
editI set up a new article on "History of broadcasting in Australia" Using materials from the history of broadcasting article you wrote, as well as the ABC article and some entirely new material. I added a new bibliography. I hope you will add new material to this article. Your work on the "history of broadcasting" article was good, but it may be getting much too long for an article that has to cover the entire world. Rjensen (talk) 08:45, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
- well we very largely agree! Good. we disagree on the Electrophone: 1) it's point to point and is not broadcasting; 2) its leaders did not move to broadcasting; 3) the RS do not include it; 4) worst of all it's distracting--it tells students that they should pay attention because this somehow is connected to broadcasting. History of broadcasting in Australia
editIt's a pleasure to cooperate with you on that article, which is looking very good indeed. I think I'm about out of ideas for it. I would note that the scholarship On Australia is much superior to that on Broadcasting in Canada... The poor Canadians I think are too much under the American influence, Rjensen (talk) 07:36, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

AM radio
editHi Albert
I notice you were a significant contributor to Timeline of Australian radio, and wondered whether you'd be interested in an article I've started: User:Doug butler/List of Australian AM radio stations. It's got a long way to go, but looks like it could be useful to those of us who use AM (and for all those who can remember). I'll watch this page for a reply.Doug butler (talk) 22:08, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Dear Doug,
Please refer to my reply on your own Used Talk page.
Regards, Albert Isaacs (talk) 22:47, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
- Wow! I wasn't expecting such a quick reply. As you no doubt have seen, the article has started to take its ultimate shape, but has a long way to go in terms of information. If you with your resources can contribute in this direction we could get it "live" and useful in no time at all. My only sources of information are newspapers (via Trove) which are semi-reliable but largely cuts out at 1950 and my own knowledge (also semi-reliable!).
- Cheers Doug butler (talk) 23:00, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Dear Doug, I note that you've made a few recent Wikipedia changes at places like the 2UE and List of radio stations in Australia. However, I've been unable to find your list of AM stations. Please supply a link.
Regards, Albert Isaacs (talk) 23:18, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
- Try User:Doug butler/List of Australian AM radio stations Doug butler (talk) 23:29, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Dear Doug,
I will have a proper look at this over the next week or so. In the meantime, are you familiar with Bruce Carty's book "Australian Radio History"? http://trove.nla.gov.au/work/150970094?q&versionId=198297364. It lists ALL known stations. On the negative side, Bruce does go on about his own little hobby-horses and interests. Nevertheless, a valuable source of information.
Regards, Albert Isaacs (talk) 23:46, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
- I'll find a copy Doug butler (talk) 23:49, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Dear Doug,
Have a look at the note I've just posted to you on your own User page. Regards, Albert Isaacs (talk) 23:03, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi Albert
Thanks for the note re. 2CM. I don't think this call sign ever operated on the broadcast band, which may be why I never included it. Please correct me if I'm wrong. No, I haven't got around to Carty's book yet, at the moment I'm looking for a copy of WRTH 1978 or thereabouts. We used to throw them out when the new issue appeared, now they're selling for hundred$$$. The biggest hole in the chart is frequencies immediately before novalization. Can't even remember 8DR's and I worked there!
Cheers, Doug butler (talk) 00:01, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Albert
I've added a link to 2CN in the "Amateur years" section; he was clearly pre-eminent in that field. One point about the 2CN article you might like to clarify: was his long-distance broadcasting record really set with a "O.0037 watt" transmitter? 3.7 mW is an extraordinarily low power; difficult to measure even today. Or did he have a 37 watt transmitter with a 40dB attenuator before the antenna? The mind boggles. In any case that leading character should be a zero.
Best regards, Doug butler (talk) 03:05, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Albert
I can't remember whether WRTH would have had any interest to amateur radio operators; not something I've had any experience with. Its main hobbyist use would be for DX listeners; people who for all sorts of reasons wanted to hear broadcasts from remote parts of the world: Some chasing the big shortwave broadcasters: BBC World Service, Radio Moscow, Radio Free Europe; American Forces Network and the once great Radio Australia, whose transmitters jump from frequency to frequency almost on an hourly basis according to predicted optimum for the target area. Others search for freak reception "skip" from broadcasts that are usually confined to a local area, but get ducted to distant places by the ionosphere. Knowing the frequency and time of day is a great help in identifying these, and WRTH is awash with this sort of information.
But why Germany? Dunno. Something to do with the Iron Curtain perhaps? Doug butler (talk) 05:31, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
Doug
Hi Albert
I'd be grateful if you would make good those important omissions. I knew of 2JJ, which opened while I was still in Darwin, but never heard of 3ZZ!
As for editing the table, I cheat by copying and pasting the code for the line above, then changing the details; but I'm probably indulging in ovosuction instruction :)
You're right about the invite, but don't think I'm up to handling the dramas: I steer clear of controversy by looking into stuff that nobody cares too much about. Doug butler (talk) 23:28, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
Great information about other mobile stations and 9-prefixed military transmitters. I'm rapt, go for it (but you don't need my say-so). Doug butler (talk) 06:28, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Albert
I'd be most interested in your PP presentation; you can send it via the Wikipedia email link. I have it enabled and it works a treat. As for the RPH stuff, I only included references where they took over existing transmitters (just to keep the size down and not to drown out the historical stuff I avoided all the recent narrowcasting transmitters, which appear to be legion), but those I missed deserve a mention.
Cheers, Doug butler (talk) 00:22, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Albert
No, I don't have your email address, and don't need it, and have never sent you an email. Private communication with other Wikipedians is facilitated by Wikipedia, assuming it is enabled (under Preferences check box marked [] Allow other users to email me) without passing on the user's email address. I presume it allows attachments but have never tried, and have only used the facility once or twice.
If you go to my Userpage you'll find on the LHS under Tools "Email this user".
Doug butler (talk) 23:07, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
I was wrong about email address not being passed on. It is. Makes sense though, it could otherwise be abused. You send me yours I'll send you mine. You might like to think about starting a Userpage too. Preferably not as prosaic as mine :) Doug butler (talk) 23:58, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Overseas broadcasters during WWII
editHi Albert Have started List of Australian AM radio stations#Overseas broadcasters during WWII. Do you have any information on Bosley Field? Sounds Shakespearian, but nothing on Trove, and best WP list of Pacific Campaign airfields (United States Army Air Forces in the South Pacific Area#Airfields and unit assignments) has nothing even close. Doug butler (talk) 08:38, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
- Good link! I've followed your lead and started looking at AWM photos. I've spotted one announcer I knew directly. Is the T. Dear in this photo https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/099444/ the famous Terry Dear? Doug butler (talk) 23:54, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
Separating 3DB from KIIS 101.1
editI agree about separate articles. In fact the dividing line should be 1990 and the conversion to FM as 101.1 FM is essentially a new station with no on-air or off-air connection back to its AM days. Paul Benjamin Austin (talk) 23:53, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

editInfobox RfC
editI'm proposing a redesign containing visual, technical and other improvements to {{Infobox radio station}} and {{Infobox broadcast}}. The discussion is located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Radio Stations/2020 infobox redesign proposal. As an editor active in editing radio and/or TV station articles, or in recent changes to the templates in question, I wanted to make you aware of this proposal and kindly ask for your feedback. I'm particularly looking for feedback on potential improvements with an eye to radio and TV articles outside the United States, so since you are active in editing and writing articles about radio in Australia, I would like to hear from you. Raymie (t • c) 05:36, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
official_callsign parameter
editPsst, |callsign=
is part of {{Infobox radio station}} — and the revamp which I've converted Magic 1278 to so you can see it. Should be useful to have separate name and call sign fields in countries like Australia with "mixed" usage of calls and station name for article titles. Raymie (t • c) 07:12, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
