Argentine football

edit

Hi, I've noticed your excellent work on maintaining Argentine football current squads and templates. Just a few things,

  • When you remove a player that has an article, from a current squad or template, could you update the player article too, so it doesn't sit around with inaccurate information because no-one can find it.
  • We have an Argentine football wikiproject here. Feel free to sign up, make comments or suggestions, request articles, put articles on the list of articles for improvement or whatever.

Keep up the good work. Kind regards English peasant 15:29, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

No i'm not an admin. you could ask Angelo Romano or Alexf. They are both helpful when I need stuff sorting out. English peasant 12:54, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for identifying your edit as vandalism. The large removal of information seemed to constitute vandalism, but I now see that you were probably still in the process of improving the page.

Once again, I do apologise, hence why I didn't issue a warning.

Keep up the excellent work on Argentine football :).

You are doing excellent work on this article. There is so much work to keep Argentine football articles updated, it is great that I am not working alone beacuse I have so much less time to edit these days. Kind regards EP 22:41, 29 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi mate, just a quick note to thank you for your excellent work on the latest transfer article. It is good to see that Argentine football articles are in good hands even though I am currently "out of the game". I hope to be back sometime in August maybe. Argentine Transfers Summer 2009

edit

Hey Fasche, thanks for the note on my page. I agree with your suggestions regarding the latest transfer article. I had just used the same formatting as the previous articles, but the Dutch transfers article does have a more attractive format. I would suggest leaving the references in for transfers not included on the Supermercados page from ole, though. I think only a few of those listed would be affected. Leonardo Marcelo Morales

edit

Hi, I noticed that there are no references on the latest transfers article. The reason we used them originally was to meet WP:RS. I've been checking the listed articles and came across Leonardo Marcelo Morales. I can't find much evidence as to whether he moved to Arsenal or not. I've not got much editing time these days. Could you check it out for me. Cheers King of the North East 21:05, 2 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi there FACHE, VASCO from Portugal here,

No man, in no way was the summary in this player's article meant as a personal attack, i tend to (over)exaggerate on many of my summaries, excuse me if you felt offended in any way.

Also, thank you very much for your explanations regarding my (now i see it is wrong) edit, hopefully we can work together well if the occasion "arises". Again, sorry for any incovenience.

Naming of Argentine lower leagues' clubs

edit

Hi, I also regret the fact that User:King of the North East has retired, specially since he created and kept up to date most Argentine football articles. Anyways, I don't know if there was ever a naming discussing about the Argentine lower leagues clubs, but I do know that there have been several club naming discussions on WT:FOOTY and the consensus is usually to either use the official name or the commonly use name, the consensus changes on a case by case, the use of the official names might come from an old consensus and the other as you know is from WP:COMMONNAME. I personally don't mind the changes that you want to do, but it might be best to discuss it on WT:FOOTY. Regards --Bocafan76 (talk) 16:08, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Action necessary (?)

edit

Hi there FACHE, VASCO here,

after seeing your message to this anon user (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:190.45.221.146), i also sent him a (related) message. Please see how he, in Nivaldo Batista Santana, IMMEDIATELY reverted my edit after the message, without one word in summary.

Well, maybe he speaks no English (as so many editors here, which brings the topic "Why do they edit here?"), so i left him a message in Spanish. If he continues to operate as he does, i feel action might be necessary (block - which would be easy, his IP is standard - or page protection).

Have a great week, cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 15:25, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks for your sources, now i'm really confused abouth which COLO-COLO. Perhaps if he reverts again, i'll leave it be, although this lack of communication is really frustrating.

Yes man, for reasons which i don't know, the English wiki is BY FAR the better one (although all versions are there for possible improvement(s), 90% if not more of the people want to edit in this version, rather than in the others - no wonder then it's better :) !). Regarding you, you do not merit, in my opinion, just a 2 in your English level, but a 3 if not a 4, really impressive my friend. I have (as you for sure) however come across some very poor stuff, including the translation of players' names (see this "cracker" as example http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Juan_Pablo_Ruiz_P%C3%A9rez&diff=prev&oldid=310132166); this "user" in particular, Wajeehj, has the custom of the following: sees texts in ES.WIKI, what does he do? Copy/pastes then "translates" to the English wiki, quite strange...

Again, thanks for your assistance and happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:57, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

There is a drop-down list to the right of where you can edit, bookmark and move called "TW". You can select what you want from there, add your reason and it'll do it automatically. I haven't done one for ages, which is why I think I did Branko de Tellería's wrong, but Damián Martínez's looks right. Hope that helps. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 15:53, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Notable players

edit

Hi there, I seen your recent edits on the "notable players" sections, I think that you are right about wanting references, but I was wondering should all the players be referenced or only the ones without an article? I ask 'cause I could add a reference link to all the Boca players, but that's like 100 or so references, doesn't it make more sense to only added them to the players without an article, since the players with an article most like already have a reference link or external link which backs up the claim that they played 50 or more matches. Let me know what you think. Regards --Bocafan76 (talk) 23:08, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi again, just finished adding the reference links to the players without an article, I removed the references need template, but left the other. For now I'll leave match required at 50, but will probably increase it to 100 later, although players like Fernado Gago and José Orlando Berta won't make the cut, both are very liked by the fans, Berta even got a recognition award in La Bombonera in May of this year, but anyways will see who makes the cut and who doesn't. Regards --Bocafan76 (talk) 00:09, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Just a quick note to say that Diego Maradona would also miss out on being listed as a notable Boca Juniors player if the criteria were changed to 100+ King of the North East 11:59, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

[copied from Bocafan76's talk]

You can always establish a more detailed criteria to avoid cutting out notable players that don't satisfy the 100 games. Check what I did at Vélez (link): 100 games, or an individual award (e. g. league top scorer), or 20 national team games, or a World Cup participation. In the future, I plan to tidy it up in sections, even if that means repeating the same player in all four of them (Chilavert satisfies the 4 criterias).

Anyway, I leave it to your creativity and good judgement. Improving those sections in Argentine clubs is long overdue. Regards.

[end of copy-paste]

There are alternatives, I'm not asking for any specific criteria, just something more noteworthy than 50 games. With the current criteria Gustavo Barros Schelotto and Diego Crosa are notable Boca players. Of course, they were never included in the section because we know they are not notable. If we used another method we might not need to use our point of view to avoid these unintended inclusions. Fache (talk) 12:16, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Maybe it could be some thing like the Argentina notable players section (X amount of matches or X amount of goals scored with the club). I also would like to comment that, I wouldn't add this two things as requirements (played at least 20 international games for their national team at any time and been part of a FIFA World Cup squad at any time) since this two would make a player notable as a player, but not notable to the club, an example of this would be Luis Hernández, who was a notable player, specially for Necaxa, UANL and Mexico, but not notable for Boca. Regards --Bocafan76 (talk) 16:08, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fullnames

edit

Hi there FACHE, VASCO here,

Yes, i see what you mean my friend, i am just guiding myself by the following: the article's full name, for an aesthetic purpose nothing more. It's not my fault that some articles have full names (like Vélez), more or less full names (S.L. Benfica) and names with just one word (Tacuary). What i sometimes do is hide the link of the article behind a full name (for example Club Tacuary).

Another thing that is highly inconsistent is the competition's names: we have things half in English half in native language (Argentine Primera División), stuff 100% in English (as it should in English WP - Belgian Cup) and some in "complete translation" (DFB-Pokal), no consensus here...

Kind regards as well (and again, sorry for any incovenience in my summaries, i get a bit hysterical sometimes), happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 15:42, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • I also would like you to have a look at Ezequiel Castillo's article; some anon user keeps removing, without one word in summary, his last club. Can you tell me if he did play or not for that last club, Sportivo Patria? I hate when people "work" like that!! No summaries "smells of" vandalism, more when it's done more than once...

Thanks in advance, Aguante - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 15:51, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Logos re-subidos

edit

{{logo fur
<!-- REQUIRED -->
 |Article = Boca Juniors (basketball)
 |Use = Org
<!-- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -->
 |Source = http://www.boca-basket.com.ar
<!-- ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -->
 |Used for = Infobox
 |Owner = Club Atlético Boca Juniors
 |Website = http://www.bocajuniors.com.ar
 |History =
 |Commentary =
<!-- OVERRIDE FIELDS -->
 |Description = The club crest of Club Atlético Boca Juniors basketball team
 |Portion = Entire logo
 |Low_resolution = Yes
 |Purpose =
 |Replaceability = Irreplaceable
 |other_information =
}}

Buen domingo, Fma12 (talk) 16:28, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

This is (former) user AlwaysLearning, now I don't have any account because of a serious encounter with a troll who abused and kept on abusing, I then asked an administrator to vanish my account because I had the serious intention of leaving forever. Well, guess I cannot, I am "addicted"...

Now, about the changes I made in this player: 1 - I merely composed the language, I apologize if I removed some important info on his Estudiantes spell, I admit I did not notice what I was removing, I was merely concentrated on the grammar. More: it was not even I who wrote his early club career (the assists, the game against Gimnasia, etc), I merely composed language and added references; 2 - "On 5 August Pavone returned to his homeland", OK a mistake, a human mistake, I suppose you also commit some once in a while, no? 3 - Now, for the current contents: intro: it was decided last year by the football community at WP:FOOTY (or 2013, can't remember exactly) that we NEVER write the leagues in the article's introduction, if a player plays in his country (like Pavone) we write "...who plays for X club as a (player position")." If it's a foreigner (example Nicolás Otamendi) we write "...who plays for Spanish club Valencia CF as a central defender." Ask WP:FOOTY or any user well connected to football here to see if I'm lying; 2 - I improved the display of the refs (we write "14 January 2015", not "2015-01-14") you reverted me, I added the correct title of reference #1 you reverted me; 4 - titles of sub-sections: I think ESTUDIANTES in #1 is enough, we don't need YOUTH CAREER, it's obvious because I believe 99,999999999999999% of the professional players in the world have a youth career; CRUZ AZUL I believe is better than CRUZ AZUL AND VÉLEZ SARSFIELD, after all he is on loan and belongs to Cruz, that choice you made makes for an enormous title my fellow user, don't you agree? 5 - still in the CRUZ AZUL section, we don't need to say "After one season with Lánus...", it's obvious after reading the infobox. It's also obvious that it was Cruz that loaned him to Vélez, so to write "...Vélez Sarsfield signed Pavone on loan from Cruz Azul." is overstating I think; 6 - I went with the norm by writing "four goals" (and not "4 goals", we only use numerals after 10, included), you reverted me; 7 - about his CONCACAF CL success, I added more wikilinks, one for the competition and another for the season of competition, no harm done there I think, but I think you operated a blanket revert (WP term used for when a user reverts EVERYTHING the previous user added, regardless of merits, I never reverted everything you added, merely composed; I repeat, I now realized I reverted some stuff you added - for example him being the 2006 CL top scorer - and I have already apologized for that); 8 - his River Plate totals, all available sources (Soccerway, NFT) say he had 32 games and nine goals for River, why do you insert 34/10? I'm tired there, I give up, it stays 34/10; 9 - honours: my changes were due to the fact I often write the competition (in Pavone's case the Argentine Primera División), then ":" and then the honour, because i don't think "Argentine Primera División Top Scorer" is the name of any competition. Like in the case of his stats with River, I give up, it stays your way; 10 - infobox, I added his jersey number, you reverted me; 11 - in the last lines of his Lánus spell, I composed/removed the "Pavone had a good run in the second semester" sentence because it contained POV and it is not referenced (that, and the goals he scored), you reinstated it again, fine it stays.

Last but not least: the message in Pavone's article talkpage, I think you were very aggressive towards me, I still remember we had a very good and cordial relationship when I had my account (of course, you did not know this IP was also AlwaysLearning) and I repeat, I did not remove anything you wrote except him being the top scorer in the 2006 Libertadores - and i apologize for that for the third time - I merely composed the language. If you look at Pavone's history, you'll see I have been one of the top contributors to his page, adding references and more storyline. Sure, I don't own this or any other article (now read it better, you accuse me of acting like I own the site, not just this page, indeed aggressive I think), but neither do you, this has to be a teamwork, and on my part I am doing exactly what you suggested, "...your edits should be to improve the article...".

I now added another reference to the article, about his cap for Argentina, would have liked for an actual match report on the game, but found only what you see. PLEASE, when you see my changes and read my (enormous) message, contact me before blanket-reverting me again, we will then discuss the items that I approach in the second paragraph of this message, in English or Spanish if you prefer. If you still, after reading this (I think I am being polite), choose to revert me again and/or say I am acting like a WP boss, don't worry, i'll leave article in peace and never edit there again.

Un saludo --84.90.219.128 (talk) 03:43, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks, honestly, I appreciate your quick and positive reply. About Pavone's 34/10 for River, yes, I imagined it could be something like that (playoffs). If you want to add even more to the article, maybe you could browse your country's web and found a reference for the 7-0 match against Gimnasia? Also, if you think the ref I added for his cap with Argentina is not very reliable, could you please find a better one?

Best wishes also, continue the good work --84.90.219.128 (talk) 15:40, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Gracias, muchas gracias. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:02, 22 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Maximiliano Caire, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Patronato. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Differentiating club names

edit

Hi, Fache! I noticed your edits on Agustín Bouzat and Joaquín Laso, where you add the letters to differentiate between certain clubs, like Unión and Liniers. I thought we would only do that if two clubs of the same name are mentioned in the article, otherwise where would we stop. Loads of clubs share the same name, we wouldn't differentiate Benfica of Portugal because of the Benfica clubs in Guinea-Bissau and Macau, would we? I'm not 100% sure though, is there an article that states the opposite? Please share if so!
