I think I understand exactly what you are getting at. Hopefully other people will understand as well. XinJeisan 00:50, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Please offer some explanation why you think it is a good idea to retitling the overseas american expansion article. It seems the new title is even more an example of editorializing then the previous title, and as you already noted was voted down http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:American_Overseas_Empire#Merger_Proposal.Thanks, Mrdthree 03:28, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- Was a mistake, you can go ahead and revert it. I maintain my change to the American Empire article and template were justified though. - MichiganCharms 03:50, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

- I find it highly offensive that you refer to me as a political POV pusher of the FIFA 08 talk page and a troll on setanta'747's talk page. Please strike through those comments and apologies or I will refer them to relevent admin. In case you have noticed I have actually add the Ulster Banner to a number of articles over the past few days.--Vintagekits 07:46, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
If you look at the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, and really any other international competition football articles you'll clearly see that while the Ulster Banner is not legally speaking the flag of Norther Ireland, it is consistently used both on wikipedia and in real life to refer to the Northern Ireland national and club football teams. I am Catholic and have a very republican view of Northern Ireland, but you clearly don't understand football. The St. George's Cross, which is now routinely used as the symbol of England's national and club football teams, was not always used. Fans of these teams used to use the British Flag in order to chear on their teams, but recently the flag of England specifically has become more widely used and thus has been adopted on wikipedia. I would assume that the same process happened in Northern Ireland. 65.101.45.228 13:44, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Cardiff history
editHi MichiganCharms,
I have been trying to put together a History of Cardiff for a while now, having created the Timeline of Cardiff history, but the lack of time is the problem. Have a look at my sandbox, if you want to copy the info that I have got so far please be my guest, I do not own any information on Wikipedia. Generally I find the Cardiff page a bit of a pain in the XXXX to be honest with the amount of edit wars going on. So I use my time on other local pages instead, which I enjoy. Your question
editThis is a matter of opinion. Ultimately it comes down to what you like to see. The two games are quite different.
The key difference between union and league is that in league (like American football) the team in possession of the ball is guaranteed a number of attempts to move the ball before a turnover. In union, the two teams will spend a lot of time contesting possession and not moving the ball at all.
Some people think that this adds extra variety to the game others find it boring. League takes away the contest for possession and as a result the ball is in open play a lot more of the time which means more tries and more action. Critics of league would say that it is predictable and that teams follow a set pattern of play. IMO it just seems this way and there is a fair amount going on that isn't obvious to the newbie.
The other difference is that union is much more of a "football" game with much more tactical kicking and points scoring via kicked goals. If you are unfamiliar with the game, it can seem very bizarre that the crowd would applaud somebody kicking the ball out of play for what seems like no reason. This is why detractors call it "kick and clap". In league, the ball is usually only kicked on the last tackle like an American football team would punt on the 4th down and progress down the field is largely only by running with the ball.
Rugby union in my view is a bit hit-and-miss, the rules are quite complex and the ball spends a lot of time in various set pieces. It can be a great game when played with the right intention. Unfortunately England is reknown for playing conservative rugby whereby the ball spends a lot of time with the forwards in scrums and when possession is won it is often kicked away for a territorial gain. The way that it is played in Wales, France, New Zealand or Australia is more entertaining.
For overviews of the difference between the two rugbys and a comparison with American football see:-
- Comparison of rugby league and rugby union
- Comparison of American football and rugby league
- Comparison of American football and rugby union
I prefer league, when I talk to rugby union fans about their favourite game or try then they always describe something that involves few forward battles and the backs running with the ball i.e. much like rugby league. I would suggest looking at the highlights of some games on youtube and seeing which you prefer, just search on "rugby league" or "rugby union".
Rugby league is not played much in London and most Londoners would not really be aware of it. Talk about "rugby" and everybody will assume that you mean union. London has one team in the top flight Harlequins Rugby League and one semi-professional side London Skolars and a lot of amateur sides below that. (see http://www.londonrl.com/index.php ). For historical reasons, the sport is very new and is only starting to take off in London. You might find Rugby league in England to be useful for the background of the sport.
Rugby union is very much the sport of the suburbs and wasn't much of a spectator sport until fairly recently. The result of this is that clubs didn't have big stadia like soccer clubs and when the number of people wanting to watch increased dramatically they moved to soccer stadiums outside London.
The four "London" sides in the top division are London Irish, London Wasps, Saracens and Harlequins but only Quins play in London any more and quite a long way from the centre at that. Harlequins are the hosts of the rugby league side of similar name Harlequins Rugby League. There are quite a few other sides in the London area but AFAIK only London Welsh actually play in London.
Internationals are also played at Twickenham which the same area (but different stadium) where both Harlequins sides play.

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
editHi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

WP:MUSIC
editFailing to meet WP:MUSIC is sufficient for an article to be deleted through AfD or speedy. Many, many articles are turned into redirects for failing this guideline. Sourced information can be added to the band’s article, but a separate article is simply not necessary. Yes, it’s a guideline, but a guideline which he fails to satisfy. Nouse4aname (talk) 18:54, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- 1. I do not have to prove he fails, you have to prove he passes. Does he individually satisfy any of the 12 criteria here? No. Does the band? yes. But notability is not inherited. Being a member of a notable band does not automatically mean that every member is also notable.
Note that members of notable bands are redirected to the band's article, not given individual articles, unless they have demonstrated individual notability for activity independent of the band, such as solo releases. Members of two notable bands are generally notable enough for their own article.
- 2. Failing WP:MUSIC is not a criteria to speedy delete (but is enough for deletion through AfD). Failing to assert notability as per WP:MUSIC is enough to speedy delete.
As he has not personally achieved any of the requirements at WP:MUSIC, he fails the notability requirements. Information can be included in the main article, but a separate article is not necessary, unless he has achieved notability for work outside of the band. Nouse4aname (talk) 09:29, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Rich Rodriguez Birthplace
editIm sure you mean well in trying to edit this page to what you think is correct. You are using one source to dispute what I can do a simple internet search for on any browser and find 20 sources to prove that one incorrect. I'm sure you mean well but you are just wrong. I live in Clarksburg, WV, I have followed Coach rod's career since he was at Salem University in the 80's...I know him and members of his family personally. I can guarentee you, he is born and raised in Marion County, I also disagree that the word native is used for people who were not born there. You often hear someone is a native of australia, but raised in the United States (example.) Garkeith (talk) 08:03, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- I added two seperate source that show his "birthplace" as Grant Town, WV. Including Scout.com one of the most reliable sources for any college football information. I hope we have this settled. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Garkeith (talk • contribs) 08:19, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- I would drive to Grant Town (about 15 min from where I live) and take a picture of the giant sign on both ends of town that say the "BIRTHPLACE of Rich "Coach Rod" Rodriguez" but after he left the town removed them so they didnt have to deal with vandalisim. lol. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Garkeith (talk • contribs) 08:34, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

My understandings, which may be wrong and should thus be researched, are as follows: 1) The university is not legally constituted as a system (as I understand it, this can be found in the establishing documents or constitution, but where, I do not know); 2) there is one President (Coleman); 3) the application process runs off of a common pool; 3)given that 98% of each is attributed to Ann Arbor anyway, the university reports research volumes and endowment as Ann Arbor only; 4) the university itself uses the phrase "satellite campuses" (also uses branch in some cases); 5) the budgeting is done through Ann Arbor and controlled by Ann Arbor. 74.64.126.54 (talk) 01:46, 18 December 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.64.126.54 (talk)

License tagging for File:Lgdearborn.gif
editThanks for uploading File:Lgdearborn.gif. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. Rose Report
editI'm trying to get some feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Northern Ireland#Rose Report on the "Rose Report" which has been listed for several years on WikiProject Northern Ireland as an article in need of creation. I've had the request for information up since 20 August without response. At least we should be able to identify what it is so we can see if it really belongs on that list. Even if you don't know what it is, saying so would be a help. If we get enough of those, that will at least answer the question about its importance. Thanks in advance. --Bejnar (talk) 02:59, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.

The file File:Marsuk.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, low-res, no obvious use
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
