Welcome - but I dont think we need to see List of Armories everywhere
editHi, welcome to wikipedia. I see you're adding list of armories to many (all?) of the list of registered historic places. Armories are fine, but we dont need it on every page, especially under See Also, a section which should be minimal for most articles. Just my opinion. dm (talk) 18:32, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for cleaning that up a bit. I looked at List of Armories in NYC and surrounding NY State counties It stikes me that putting into a table format could be useful. Please let me know if I can help. dm (talk) 19:10, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks for the welcome and the assist Dmadeo. I completely understood what you meant in that the armories represent a specific type of structure, while the landmarks view all types that are registered. A little new to organizing here on Wiki. Hopefully I can get the hand of it. And I appreciate whatever help you can provide. You have my assistance as well. - I took the liberty of reformatting this page a bit for you. This is a bit rude to do, but I hoped you'd forgive me if I showed you how most people use the Colon to indent their replies. You can also use an asterix like I did with this line. The links above give a lot of good information for a new user. Most of us want to help new users get their bearings so dont get too worried, just ask. You might need to see this in "edit source" mode to get what I'm talking about. Personally, I find editing in "edit source" mode much easier than the visual editor, your mileage may vary. dm (talk) 06:30, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks D. I am reading through as much info as possible and doing test runs to practice. I am glad that there is collaborative effort and much support on the site. Thumbs up. NYCWikiKid (talk) 16:22, 28 July 2013 (UTC)NYCWikiKidNYCWikiKid (talk) 16:22, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- You should probably copy the article to your userspace while you decide on whether you want it to end up in the bullet style or in table form - having both in the public article is confusing to the reader. When you've finished tinkering, just copy the article from your userspace to article space, or ask an admin to move it for you. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:20, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Beyond My Ken. Thanks for providing very useful help. I appreciate it. I'm actually intending on having the two parts be separate in that the first is more of an index while the second is an illustration. Hopefully some pictures can be put up of all the facilities. Let me know what you think. NYCWikiKid (talk) 05:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)NYCWikiKidNYCWikiKid (talk) 05:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
And while you're at it ...
editFor one thing, the article title should follow policy. To wit, "NYC" should be spelled out so it's List of armories in New York City.
For another, I think you'd be better off doing two lists: one for the city and another for all the other counties in the state, regardless of whether they're near the city or not. We just don't do geographic subdivisions like that without a very good reason (and I don't see one here). Daniel Case (talk) 02:33, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- To begin...Hi. Glad for your interest. To shed light, Daniel Case, when the original article was submitted, it was spelled out with New York City, written as: List of Armories and Arsenals in New York City and surrounding New York State Counties; as it is shown within the article. I believe it was acronymed and streamlined to make it easier to fit. Second, the list was made to address the armories within mainly what is considered the NY State part of the Metropolitan Area or "Downstate New York" region. Before you jump the gun, I am studying the possibility of placing a counterpart list which addresses all other armories in the state or the formal "Upstate New York". Two regions makes for two lists. They will eventually be placed under one umbrella list of New York State armories. Hope that alleviates your steadfast concerns. Cheers. editHi NYCWikiKid! Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. |
Two quick notes
editHi:
- In section titles, only the first word and any proper nouns should be capitalized, so it's "See also" not "See Also", "External links" not "External Links", "Life and career" not "Life and Career"
- Do not use an ampersand (&) in text to mean "and" (unless it specifically appears in a proper name), always use "and".
Thanks. Beyond My Ken (talk) 20:42, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi BMK, Thanks for the heads up. As you may have experienced along the way, Wiki has an enormous amount of information to learn. I am trying my best to pick up things along the way and do as much reading as possible. Really appreciate the pointers. NYCWikiKid (talk) 23:21, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Michael A. Carroll Stadium.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Michael A. Carroll Stadium.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Soccer Bowl 2012 logo.png
editA tag has been placed on File:Soccer Bowl 2012 logo.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Blurred Lines 15:54, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Soccer Bowls
editAwesome that you got so many of these pages up! Good work, I'll gladly help to expand them wherever I can. A word of note though, Alan Ball was NOT the man of the match of Soccer Bowl '79. He was the 1979 playoffs MVP, which is not the same. If you view the SB '79 video, you'll see that an offensive and defensive MoM was selected. If memory serves, Trevor Wymark was offensive MoM, with 2 goals. I'll watch the video again to see who the defensive MoM was. I'm pretty sure this may be the case with several other SBs of that time frame too. To differentiate playoff MVPs from Finals MoMs (and when they did this), you'd need to view the videos or find newspaper stories from each year to confirm. Anyway great job, Cheers! Creativewill (talk) 17:02, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Awesome. I'll probably start by dropping in all the basic box scores in that I did for the NASL Season pages. Then maybe a few uniform kits like Soccer'78 has. The rest will depend completely on how much detail I can find about any given match or series (i.e. starting IX, subs used, available subs, yellow cards, etc.), not to mention free time. I'm sure fans of any particular team will help fill in the blanks. Talk soon.Creativewill (talk) 21:50, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
Take a look at the 1972 finals page additions. Any idea how to get a white cuff and collar on a kit with stripes? :-) that's what St Louis jersey looked like. I've looked at hundreds of kits all over wikipedia. All the ones w/white collars have solid colored shirts. hmph. -Creativewill (talk) 17:32, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, but the Colorado kit won't help. Both SB teams have the correct collar shape for that game. StL just happens to have had a white boarder on theirs and on the cuff as well. Minor detail, but it bugs me nevertheless -Creativewill (talk) 19:16, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
No worries on "club" fix. Man o'man, it's hard to find color images of some of the kits in the finals... and then create them! i'm quiting for today after i finish '77. Creativewill (talk) 17:49, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kudos, writing recaps of some of these matches is my real dread. I found the USA 1967 Finals video on youtube. Btw, an absolutely WILD match! Well worth watching. I linked it to the kits as a reference, so that no one would/could question my sources. Cheers -Creativewill (talk) 03:12, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

Hey NYCWK. Just to establish this right away - I'm totally neutral on the whole "should the NYCFC navbox have colours yet or not?" argument but I just thought I should point out that if you are going to add the colours, you might want to add the right ones. The colours of nycfc.com are sky and navy blue not because they are the proposed colours of NYCFC, but because that entire website is a total copy of parent club Manchester City's website, which is here. Man City's colours are not sky blue and navy blue, although navy blue has been a trim colour a few times, but instead they are sky blue and white, as you can see from their current season's kit launch photo, and from pretty much every kit they've worn since the 1890s. If you want to put a bet on NYCFC's colours, you'd be losing your money if you betted against sky blue and white. Navy blue will most likely barely feature.
Just a friendly heads-up from a (Manchester) City fan who is eagerly following NYCFC's progress - and who created the New York City FC article of course... Falastur2 Talk 19:44, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Edelman Financial Field at One Loudoun.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Edelman Financial Field at One Loudoun.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. Proposed deletion of NYAC Travers Island Athletic Field
editThe article NYAC Travers Island Athletic Field has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Unsourced stub about a minor facility - no indication of notability - "before" search turns up no significant coverage
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. B E C K Y S A Y L E S 22:17, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
