Advice

@Tim O'Doherty I recently undertook the evaluation of the article Physics Wallah for GA review. While I'm not well-versed in the subject matter, I thoroughly examined the prose and all the cited references, which enabled me to make an assessment of the article. However, I noticed that it contains only one image. Would that suffice for a GA-class article? Additionally, could you please verify whether the image is usable or not? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 16:26, 30 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is sufficient. Yes, it appears to be PD. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:51, 30 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Do you have any additional suggestions for Cameron's article? Please take a look at it when you have the time. Currently, let me know about its quality and what you think still needs to be fixed. I'm aware that I need to improve the quality of the references cited. Are there any other suggestions you have regarding the images, prose, lead, etc.? Please inform me soon. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 16:57, 30 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't have any further suggestions short of a rewrite. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 20:17, 30 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Do you believe that the recent addition of high-quality references and the trimming down of Catherine's article will enhance its chances of passing FAC? If not, please advise on any further changes needed. Additionally, are you aware of any published books about Catherine and her life? Your prompt response would be appreciated. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 13:24, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes. No. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 14:26, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty I have listed Catherine's article for FA with Keivan as co-nominator. It is fine, isn't it? There were a number of inconsistencies in the article titles as well as many references which did not align with the prose it supported. Anyways, all the issues have been resolved for the time being, I suppose. Looking forward to the comments at FAC. Hope you are doing great. Regards and looking forward to your response. MSincccc (talk) 18:19, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
It should be fine. Just remember to transclude it onto WP:FAC: copy-paste {{Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Catherine, Princess of Wales/archive1}} at the top with the others. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 18:48, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Is it fine now? I have added the nomination at WP:FAC. Looking forward to your response. Regards MSincccc (talk) 18:56, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

The FAC coordinator suggests removing the following images if suitable image tags cannot be found for them.
File:Arms_of_Catherine,_Princess_of_Wales.svg needs a tag for the original design. File:Coat_of_Arms_of_Kate_Middleton.svg, File:Coat_of_Arms_of_Catherine,_Duchess_of_Cambridge_(2011-2019).svg, File:Coat_of_Arms_of_Catherine,_Duchess_of_Cambridge.svg, File:Combined_Coat_of_Arms_of_William_and_Catherine,_the_Duke_and_Duchess_of_Cambridge.svg @Tim O'Doherty Would you advise me on this matter? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 14:56, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'd say remove them. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 14:57, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Removed them. Will that do @Tim O'Doherty for FAC? Regards MSincccc (talk) 15:06, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Any further suggestions? You have been a part of two successful FACs hence your advice will be greatly appreciated. Regards MSincccc (talk) 16:35, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
No, I don't have any further suggestions. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:42, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
When are we collaborating next? I am eager to work on an article with you be it a GAN or simply improving an article's quality. It would be great. Please share your thoughts on this soon. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 17:52, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Dunno. I'm not sure there's a point in collaborating just for the sake of collaborating: if you find an article you'd like to work on together you can come here, but hunting for an article just to collaborate defeats the point a bit. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 18:02, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty When do you plan to submit Rishi Sunak's article for GA? Also, would you be interested in reviewing Zuckerberg's article for GA? It has been quite some time since it was nominated. If you could take it up for review, it would be appreciated. I have cleaned up the article considerably and am familiar with it. Just waiting for a reviewer to take it up. Additionally, let me know your thoughts on the above, and when you intend to submit Sunak's article for GA, as I am eager to do so. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 18:24, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not before he's stopped being PM. It's only been a few weeks since it was nominated: some people have been waiting far longer. It will get picked up eventually. Be patient. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 19:01, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

(outdent) Looks like I'll need to pick up the pace. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:50, 22 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Tim O'Doherty What about the images used in the article Aza Arnold which I had requested you to verify? Please do let me know soon as there are only two of them out there. Regards MSincccc (talk) 19:08, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Could you help me in rephrasing this paragraph from Cameron's article-Cameron visited Kyiv on 3 May 2024 where he was asked about Ukrainian strikes on Russian soil. He replied in part: "Ukraine has that right. Just as Russia is striking inside Ukraine, you can quite understand why Ukraine feels the need to make sure it's defending itself." He was then asked if this applied to UK supplied weapons he said that "In terms of what the Ukrainians do, in our view, it is their decision about how to use these weapons". Regards. MSincccc (talk) 19:13, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Re Arnold, both seem fine. Re Cameron, don't see why it needs to be in the article. He was asked a question and gave a reply. Nothing really notable about it, unless it's a massive foreign policy switch that I've somehow missed. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 19:25, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Would you make the necessary changes to Cameron's article then? Regards. MSincccc (talk) 19:45, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Since the Earthshot Prize article has not attracted any users to come and review it, would you mind giving it a try? Again, I am not pestering you but seeking advice. I can wait though;time is after all not an issue. I am patient enough. Just wanted a definite response from you. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 19:01, 6 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
If it's not picked up by around the end of the month I'll have a look. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 19:41, 6 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Should I remove the aforementioned paragraph from Cameron's article? Regards MSincccc (talk) 14:57, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Do what you want. I would. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 15:03, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Could you please find a citation to support Tom Peck, who writes for The Times, review for Ten Years to Save the West? Regards MSincccc (talk) 15:36, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty A similar assessment was given by Tom Peck in The Times, who said Truss "appears psychiatrically incapable" of learning from her own experiences. This sentence is presently uncited. Could you please locate a credible source to substantiate this statement as I could not find it in any of Puck's recent articles for The Times? Regards MSincccc (talk) 19:14, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Tim O'Doherty Can you please guide me on how to conduct a source-to-article prose spot check for the article Aza Arnold, considering that most of the references are book sources? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 07:34, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ask the nominator to give a quote from the sources for a few of the refs against the prose (for an article of that length 5–7-ish should be about enough). Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:53, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for that, @Tim O'Doherty. Regarding Prince William's recent two-day overnight trip to Cornwall, which began today, do you think it's notable enough to include under the "Prince of Wales" section of his article, or should it be left out like most other engagements? I'd appreciate your thoughts on this, as I don't want to add unnecessary content to his article. Regards, and please let me know soon. MSincccc (talk) 12:04, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Probably not. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 12:42, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Removing them would be against guidelines per WP:REDYES and MOS:REDLINKS, which recommend removing them only in cases of clear non-notability or significant overlinking. This was the nominator's reply to my suggestion of having the two red links in article prose removed. Please do let me know if it works as I am relatively less experienced and have always removed any red links that I spotted. Rewrite in British English without changing the meaning. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 13:50, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
The nominator is correct. Red links are only a bad thing if there's no chance the article will ever be created. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 14:45, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Could you please help me with finding a reliable source for the following sentence-William instead trained in the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, obtaining his commission as a sub-lieutenant in the former and a flying officer in the latter, both broadly equivalent to the army rank of lieutenant, which also specifies a date? Regards and looking forward to your response. MSincccc (talk) 15:15, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty In William's article? It's a GA: why isn't it cited already? Tim O'Doherty (talk) 15:29, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Could you please provide the exact wording of the issue raised by the user? How long was William's service in the Blues and Royals? The article just says he started in December 2006. Regards and looking forward to your response.

MSincccc (talk) 15:36, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Tim O'Doherty Could you please confirm whether the images used in the article Aza Arnold are considered usable? Your response would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, I am awaiting your reply to my previous message. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 18:35, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Your suggestions for Cameron's article would be highly appreciated and valued. Ultimately, I'll be the one making the changes; you simply need to provide guidance. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 19:21, 30 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't know. It should already be in the article. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:37, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Mentioned in a blog

edit

Appear now to be mentioned in a radio blog where I'm generously described as "openly acting in bad faith, ... demand[ing] citations for events that had never happened, in order to justify the bias accusations, and ... making arguments and accusations based on false premises", as well as my username being proof that I am "perhaps [an] Ulster Unionist, which may explain their interest, their bias and lack of detailed knowledge". LOL. Neither are true: some great, well-researched, rigorous journalism there. Of course the blog itself isn't the model of neutrality that it thinks Wikipedia should be (and is attacking it for not being). Still, worth reading for a chuckle. Cheers — Tim O'Doherty (talk) 23:15, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Well he would, wouldn't he?

@Tim O'Doherty I hope you are doing well. As we near the end of May, I was wondering if you might be interested in reviewing the Earthshot Prize article for GA. You previously mentioned that you would consider it if the article was not taken up for review before the end of this month. I would greatly appreciate your suggestions for the article's GA. If possible, please do leave your comments at Catherine's FAC as you had previously reviewed it for GA and are familiar with it. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 06:05, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'll take up Earthshot around next week. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 13:26, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that. You could also leave a few comments at Catherine's FAC regarding for the source review as you have been doing for other FAs. I say this also because you had reviewed her article for GA and are familiar with the it's content (though I have made a lot of changes to the references so as to make it relevant when comparing with the prose and also to eliminate original research). Regards. MSincccc (talk) 14:49, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Do you have any suggestions for Catherine's FAC? If yes, please do let us know of it. Hope you are doing well and have a great evening ahead. Regards MSincccc (talk) 16:43, 21 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you're looking for advice on how to respond to the FAC process, I'd look at these:
Best advice I can give is read the comments carefully and try your best to make the recommended changes. If you disagree, then say, but pick your battles carefully or you'll alienate your reviewers. Good luck with it. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:57, 21 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty A co-ordinator at FAC left the following message at Catherine's FAC page-This has been open for more than three weeks and has yet to pick up a general support. Unless it attracts considerable movement towards a consensus to promote over the next three or four days I am afraid that it is liable to be archived. Could you please help me resolve this? Looking forward to your suggestions. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 00:55, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
All you can do now is wait for reviews. Looks like 750h+ has already given you some good avenues to go down. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 14:06, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty That's fine. But I thought you could yourself leave a few comments at the FAC. By the way, what about the Earthshot Prize GAR?
? Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 14:20, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Do you have any suggestions at present for Cameron's article, given that it is also a prospective good article nominee for the future? I can work on your suggestions while I wait for you to take up the Earthshot Prize GA review. Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 05:23, 25 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll have my say at the GAN. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 13:53, 26 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Thanks for that. I will proceed with furthering my work on Cameron's article to reduce your workload later. Also, I look forward to you taking up the Earthshot Prize GAR this week. Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 04:34, 27 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't know what you want me to respond to. You've just said you're going to do something and you hope I do something. I don't have anything to add apart from "OK". Tim O'Doherty (talk) 14:18, 27 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty I was hoping you could indicate when you will be taking up the Earthshot Prize GAR this week. By the way, do you think the recent stir surrounding Catherine's portrait in Tatler's July 2024 issue deserves a mention on Wikipedia? Editors from reputable sources such as The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, BBC News, and The Times have already criticised it in their articles. Looking forward to your opinion. Regards MSincccc (talk) 16:30, 27 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've not heard about this Catherine thing, so I'm not sure. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:58, 27 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty It would be greatly appreciated if you could leave your suggestions at Catherine's FAC. You previously reviewed her article for GA, and I assure you that your comments will be sincerely addressed. Looking forward to your response and the article Earthshot Prize's GA review. Regards and yours faithfully. MSincccc (talk) 08:52, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Edward III

edit

Hi Tim. Given your past involvement with this article, I wanted to notify you that there have been news comments posted on the relevant FAR, which I think you might be capable of addressing. Just wanted to notify you in case you had missed it. All the best. Keivan.fTalk 20:16, 26 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Keivan.f - Yeah, I'd seen that. I'll rub my eyes tomorrow and address what I can, with the caveat that it's been 9 months since I looked at in in any detail. Cheers, Tim O'Doherty (talk) 20:29, 26 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sorry Keivan, I've tried to look at it but it just seems like a lot to unpick. I don't know enough about when regnal numbers may/may not have been used when applied to Edward, or when he might/might not have adopted a French title, or which references to keep/not keep in "Early life", or how to go about finding sources for the unsourced things. This is all stuff that should have been looked at by the primary author(s) but they wandered off long ago and now others have been left to pick up the pieces. Despite SN et al's (very) admirable efforts to clean it up I think something about the article is fundamentally rotten, probably to a worse extent than I had realised before. Apologies. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 15:38, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
No apologies needed. I just wanted to see if someone was able to address these issues at the moment, because I myself was left a little bit stunned by the number of problems the article has. It's really a shame that none of the original authors are around at this point; I'll try contacting them again. I feel like we might have to tear the whole article apart and rewrite the whole thing in the future. Keivan.fTalk 16:48, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Collaboration

edit

@Tim O'Doherty It's been quite sometime since we last collaborated. Hence I am looking forward to you taking up the Earthshot Prize article for GA and have been pestering you with the issue (I hope that you understand my condition at present). But do you think that Cameron's article is GA-table in its present state as well? Looking forward to your response and our future collaborations. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 17:08, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

We still have a four days (inc today) until June in case anyone wants to bag the review before me. Cameron's article might not be GA material just yet, but that's what the review is for. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:14, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Is the fact that you have been previously involved with Catherine's article (you reviewed it for GA) prevention you from providing suggestions at the article's FAC? Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 17:21, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
No. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:31, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Then why not post a few comments? It would be greatly appreciated. Regards MSincccc (talk) 17:32, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Are you satisfied with my recent edits to the article on Charles III? Last year, you had established the Charles III taskforce with the aim of enhancing the article and achieving FA-class status. I am willing to assist further, but I noticed that several references cite traditional sources like The Times and BBC News as a "website" rather than "work". Additionally, I also substituted primary sources with secondary ones wherever feasible. Eagerly awaiting your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 17:24, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
  Tim O'Doherty (talk) 18:14, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Hopefully, you will be submitting Charles's article at FAC when it is ready. Would you like to collaborate with me in preparing the article for FA-class? Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 10:23, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't have plans for Charles's FAC any time this year. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 14:38, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty When should I proceed with Cameron's GA nomination? Should I wait until after the Earthshot Prize GAR, given that you will most likely be reviewing both GA nominations, or will that be another time you suggest? Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 15:17, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, wait until after. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 15:18, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Will you be sending Rishi Sunak's article to PR or FAC this year? If so, would you like me to collaborate in preparing the article? I would be glad to assist, as I have long awaited the opportunity for a co-nomination alongside you. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 16:41, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll send it once I'm done - hopefully around February next year. I'd like to get it to GA first, then might do a PR or might not. We'll see. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:42, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty How can I contribute to the article more? By being a reviewer or a contributor? Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 17:48, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Which article? Sunak's? Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:49, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Yes. Also will you mind working on Charles's FAC with me given that you will be listing it only next year. We could co-nominate the article and share our workload and expertise. Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 17:56, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't know - what would you like to do with the Sunak article? Re Charles, I'm not saying it should be nominated next year, I said I didn't have any plans for it this year. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 18:07, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty I would like to collaborate with you on the Sunak article as well as Charles's as they are prepared for FAC. Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 13:24, 31 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
What would you be doing for the Sunak article? Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:27, 31 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have been contemplating withdrawing Catherine's nomination from FAC if this is true-Good to see the royals getting the same respect at FAC as they get from the rest of the country! :) ——Serial Number 54129 Regards MSincccc (talk) 15:19, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
What? Tim O'Doherty (talk) 15:36, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Well, it's demoralising after all. It's my first time at FAC, nobody wants to review it and then Serial has been mocking me for long now especially concerning my claims of authorship on articles to which I have significantly contributed. Looking forward to your response. MSincccc (talk) 16:00, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
No MSincccc, I don't think Serial has been mocking you. It's just humour. Don't overthink it, it's nothing malicious. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:59, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Do you intend to leave any suggestions at Catherine's FAC? You are familiar with it as it stands. If not, please let me know. I would henceforth not ask you to do so in future then. Thanks for clarifying MSincccc (talk) 17:44, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
If there aren't enough reviewers by the end, yes. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 20:11, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
There are a few reliable book sources for Catherine's article, including "Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen" by Robert Jobson and "Kate: The Future Queen" by Katie Nicholl. However, I am unsure whether they would be suitable for inclusion in a potential FA-class article. Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 16:55, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Advice 2.0

edit

@Tim O'Doherty Could you kindly advise me on how to incorporate information from book sources and how to interconnect them within the article? I've noticed you've done this for Liz Truss's article and have been doing so for Rishi Sunak's as well. Thus, I would appreciate learning from your expertise. I eagerly await your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 18:07, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand. You do the same as you would with any other source: read the info, paraphrase and cite it. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 18:14, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty
Part 1
How do I access all those books about Catherine which user Serial Number 5149 suggested as good enough for an FA-class article at Catherine's FAC?
Part 2
Also they have pointed out that Hello! Magazine (which has been cited on ten occasions within the article) is considered a generally unreliable source and that the sourcing looks weak. How did we not come across these issues (the Hello! Magazine ones) during the GA review?
Looking forward to your response to the above two queries. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 18:41, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
1. Internet Archive, Google Books, the Wikipedia Library etc. 2. It was a spotcheck. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 19:11, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Thanks for your response. By the way, Cameron's article, in its present version, needs to be trimmed on a large scale? Would you advise me on which portions are irrelevant in the longer run (and hence should be removed) or will you suggest sending it to PR? The latter might have been viable only that Catherine's FAC is withholding me from doing so at present. Hence looking forward to hearing from you. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 15:16, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
PR before a GAN might be a bit overkill. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:05, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Then I would appreciate suggestions from you. By the way, I had left my responses to your suggestions at Earthshot Prize's GAR. Looking forward to your response to them. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 16:40, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've already answered that. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:59, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Would you mind collaborating with me on Cameron's article through a draft which we both can edit? In that way, we can get his article to FAC as well. Looking forward your response. MSincccc (talk) 15:19, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you want to start one I might look in. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:05, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I @Tim O'Doherty I would like to start one. Furthermore, would you like me to review Sunak's article for GA? I have been giving it multiple reads in these past few days and would like to collaborate. Looking forward to your response. Regards MSincccc (talk) 16:42, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you've been reading the Sunak article (this) then be aware that I've not made my edits on that page. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:59, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have been reading that as well as this. You will complete your draft and then replace the main article with your draft's version in a manner which is suitable. Isn't that which you intend to do? Looking forward to your response. MSincccc (talk) 18:05, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Would you start a draft for Cameron's article or should I? Time is not an issue and I will be patient, I assure you. Looking forward to your response. Regards and thanks for your time. MSincccc (talk) 18:07, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Why did you revert my edits on your draft for Rishi Sunak? Is it that other editors are not allowed to do so or because they did not fit in? Looking forward to your responses (to the above as well). Regards and have a great evening ahead. MSincccc (talk) 18:28, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Bluntly MSincccc, I'd like to work on it myself. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 18:57, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty The Cameron draft-my sandbox or yours? Looking forward to your response. MSincccc (talk) 19:26, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You could repurpose Draft:David Cameron. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 19:34, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty I could. When are we starting then? Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 05:37, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty However, you could allow me to make a few minor edits here and there. We are familiar with each other’s work on English Wikipedia, and I assure you that all the credit for the GA would go to you. Also, please let me know if you would permit me to review Sunak’s article for GA. Additionally, could you explain the meaning of the Latin paragraph at the beginning of the “Business career” section? I look forward to your response. MSincccc (talk) 13:21, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
MSincccc, it's not about credit. I don't give a stuff about "credit". It's just much easier, quicker and straightforward for me to do the writing myself than have to manage a two-person collaboration in which I'm not really sure what you'd even be doing: you don't have access to any of the print sources and you've not said what your role will be in the writing process. If your first thought when trying to improve the quality of an article is "do I get brownie points for this" then our approaches are too different. Re the Latin: this. Re a GAN: you don't have to ask for my permission. I am not the king of Wikipedia. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 14:38, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
As for the Sunak draft, I will not message it up, I assure you. By the way, I only made two changes I thought were an improvement. Please let me work on the draft. I will neither be disruptive nor will I make major changes to it without consulting you. My work is not new to you nor are we to each other. By the way, it's been quite sometime since I received a response to you at the Earthshot Prize GAN. Looking forward to your responses and anticipating our future collaborations. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 15:03, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's not about "messing it up". You've said you don't have print sources, so I'm not sure what you'd be contributing. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:17, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Would you like me to purchase high-quality books and biographies on Rishi Sunak? I could do the same. Just to let you know, I already have access to the Internet Archive and Google Books, so I can access all the books there as well. Looking forward to your response. Regards MSincccc (talk) 05:12, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
The problem is that there are no "books and biographies" on Sunak that can be used under BLP. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 15:19, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty I will try my best not to disrupt your draft and help you with preparing the article for GA. Furthermore, are we allowed to use our real-life names as our usernames? Looking forward to your responses. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 15:42, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You don't need to "try your best": just don't edit it. Yes, you are allowed to use your real name as your username. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:15, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty But I assure you I won't spoil your work. You know I will be making only minor edits here and there which will be only reasonable. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 18:37, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Awaiting your responses to the above. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 17:12, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm gonna act like a WikiJaguar and put in my two cents. While your intentions might be pure, it is not advisable to force yourself in on someone else's work. You have been advised on both my talk page and the FA talk page that leaving endless comments and pinging other people continuously will only have a counterproductive effect on your argument and more than likely result in the other party getting irritated. You have to learn when to drop the stick. Instead, find another topic of interest and work on it by yourself. I assure you that you'll feel much better when looking at your own work, rather than acting as a typist for someone else. Keivan.fTalk 19:39, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Keivan.f Thanks for your advice. But @Tim O'Doherty can at least mentor me with quality writing given that he spends a lot of time into carving out high quality articles like that of Truss's and Sunak's. If the two of you could do so, it would be great. You see that I am intent on learning and improving. Also out interests converge. Looking forward to your responses. Regards. Hello, I noticed you have an article listed at WP:GAN. I recently started a project, Good Article Review Circles, and thought you might be interested. This initiative helps articles get reviewed more quickly through collaborative efforts. By joining, you'll review others' articles and get your own reviewed in return. edit

@Tim O'Doherty I humbly apologise for the unnecessary inconvenience caused by my repeated requests to amend your draft on Rishi Sunak. Upon reflection, I acknowledge the burden imposed by my persistent comments and mentions on your talk page, a behaviour uncharacteristic of other users. I offer my assurance that any future collaborations will be approached with greater discretion and consideration for your time and efforts. Moreover, I hold the utmost respect for your extensive expertise and believe that your guidance could greatly enhance my proficiency in writing and reviewing. If you would be willing to extend your mentorship, I would be sincerely grateful for the opportunity to learn from you. Once again, I express my apologies for any disruption caused, and I thank you for your understanding. Regards MSincccc (talk) 15:41, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Again, it's no issue, but please try to broaden your horizons further than just what others are working on, as Keivan said. Appreciate it though. Have a great weekend. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 20:41, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Is this article a potential future GA? It reminds us of Catherine's from April 2011 (though I was not present in the world at the time). Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 14:43, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Probably not in its current state, but if worked up to the right standard I don't see why not. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 18:09, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty
  • Should I read through an entire book on Catherine to cite relevant information from it?
  • Did you do the same while preparing Liz Truss's article for FAC? Also, how do I figure out which book sources to cite and from where?
  • Furthermore, would you mind advising me on the use of images according to their licensing (for an FAC)?
The answers to the above questions will help me proceed with my work for the next few days. If clarified, I can then work on my own for some time without bothering you with questions here. Looking forward to your response and thanks again for your time. Regards MSincccc (talk) 18:22, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Could you please explain WP: PRECIOUS. I have been trying hard to make myself understand on my own for the last week but it was of no use. Looking forward to your response. Regards MSincccc (talk) 19:14, 14 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
It depends. Physical paper copies are paid for. Sometimes they take the paywall down and allow people to read articles for free, most recently last weekend. Re WP:PRECIOUS, from the page it says it is "a prize of WP:QAI for precious support". Tim O'Doherty (talk) 19:22, 14 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Do you have the Times subscription which offers you unlimited access to its online articles? At present, the free registered access allows you to read only two full articles every week (from Monday to Sunday). Is it one of your go-to sources for citing information in an article? Are there any other alternatives to the Times? Looking forward to your responses. Regards MSincccc (talk) 09:01, 15 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just to remind you that its been a week since I last received comments from you at the Earthshot Prize GAR. Looking forward to your response. Regards MSincccc (talk) 15:46, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Obsolete HTML on your news archive

edit

Hello, is your User:Tim O'Doherty/news/archive page something a bot script is updating? I'm trying to figure out why my corrections of the many dozens of HTML5 obsolete <center> tags (most of which are also missing a closing tag, or are stripped due to bulleting) keep being undone, causing this page to reappear at the top of the error reports each week. Happy to work with you if you don't like the way I've fixed it, as there are other HTML5 compliant ways of centering, but the use of tracked obsolete tag <center> is no longer recommended and needs to stop. Thank you. Zinnober9 (talk) 16:04, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Zinnober9 - can you please point me to these error reports? Thanks. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 20:41, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
The main report I was referring to is Pages by Lint Errors which is generated from WIkipedia's Special:LintErrors reports. You can get to the reported errors for your page, or any other page you are viewing by clicking on the "Page Information" link in the Tools toolbar and scrolling down to the Lint errors section. These are the errors on your page at the moment.
The best solution I know of for your page has been to do === {{center|1= text}} === for your section headers, and <gallery class="center" style="text-align: center;" widths="170" heights="140"> replacing all of the centers in and around gallery/captions. class="center" centers the gallery block on the page, and style="text-align: center;" centers each image's caption text for the whole gallery block.
But there are a few other ways of centering in accordance to HTML5 if this is not to your taste. I'd be happy to fix them for you if you like, I just don't feel comfortable editing your page again without having a better understanding of your thoughts and wishes first. PM Keir Starmer sandbox article

edit

First of all, I saw your Rishi Sunak article in your sandbox. Great job with that!

I was wondering if you were planning on doing a similar sandbox article for Keir Starmer (post election) at some point. ThingsCanOnlyGetWetter (talk) 07:59, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

At some point I think I will try to redo his article. I'd need to get his biography by Tom Baldwin first though as it's much easier to write an article when you have a good, central source: Liz Truss took me 11 days but Sunak has taken me six months so far. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 12:24, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You did a phenomenal job with Truss so will look forward to seeing your rewritten Sunak and Starmer articles. --ThingsCanOnlyGetWetter (talk) 13:35, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty It feels great to be back here. Just to let you know that I also intend to switch to working on Starmer's article once my work at Cameron's has wrapped up. In that case, would you like to share the workload with me? (By this, I mean sharing a draft article which we can both edit and work upon together). Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 13:36, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you want. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 13:56, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty I do want. When are we starting then? Anyways, the earlier we start, the more time we can devote to the gradual improvement of the article. Would you like me to create the draft? Only both of us would be accessing it.
Additional comment: Tomorrow, it will be a fortnight since your last comment at the Earthshot Prize GAR.
Looking forward to your responses to the above.Regards. MSincccc (talk) 15:40, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
As I've said, I don't think Sunak will be done until early next year. You can start but be aware I don't have a wide range of sources on Starmer yet. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:39, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
The autobiography by Tom Baldwin is a pretty good source, I brought it a few weeks ago and it's the closest thing available to an official autobiography. I'll look forward to seeing how you tackle both Starmer and Sunak's articles, I know the wait will be worth it though. In the meantime, as Starmer's article is getting a lot of views for understandable reasons, we'll try our best to improve the article too. --ThingsCanOnlyGetWetter (talk) 17:17, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Looking forward to the draft! --ThingsCanOnlyGetWetter (talk) 16:03, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Tim O'Doherty Will you be a peer reviewer for Catherine's article when it is listed at PR? Any further suggestions to improve the article will be greatly appreciated. The FAC nomination received comments such as the article looked like a "laundry list" and did not cover the aftermath of the tours so on and so forth. Looking forward to your response. Regards. Looking forward to your response @Tim O'Doherty. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 13:09, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
They were right, the article is a bit like a laundry list. That didn't stop it at GAN but might at FAC. My advice is to cut down on the number of foreign tours and engagements mentioned, or at least summarise them. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 13:16, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Tim O'Doherty Of course they were right. For the same reasons, I have included the public reception and eventual outcome of the couple's major tours-notably the 2011 one to Canada, 2014 one to Australia and the 2019 tour to Pakistan. I have further expanded her "Public image and fashion" section and her first meeting with Jill Biden while also citing books and trying to use as many high quality reliable news sources as possible. Any further inputs from you will be greatly appreciated before the article is listed for peer review. It's my last appeal to you for the time being. Looking forward to your response and further suggestions. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 13:32, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes there is a chance as discussed in a previous discussion above and I am collaborating with him on Starmer's article. On Portrait at Lord Liverpool article

edit

@Tim O'Doherty I recently installed a new image of the Prime Minister Lord Liverpool at the main article. It seems that the portrait is too big for the info box and it might need a small framing to do and perhaps a bit crop the image as it seems to overlap the personal information of the individual. Can you help or explain how to make sure it comes to this effect? Altonydean (talk) 10:18, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

The first source seems OK-ish. I'm not convinced on the quality of the second source. There's plenty of stuff about on Internet Archive for free: try key words like "Lord Liverpool", "Peterloo", "Toryism" and "Napoleonic Wars" to find much more info. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 14:23, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can you extract the needed information from those said sites and write it in the section in government? The pace in which I edit these pages might be concerning for some and especially since I have to retire because I have some personal issues for awhile. Tomorrow might be my last day of editing because I have to tend the issues concerning me. I hope that you might, edit it to the fullest degree that it so deserves to need. What do you mean by retiring @Altonydean? Also you can access content on Internet Archive for free by creating a free account. Looking forward to your response. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 03:52, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
What I meant by retiring is that I’m going to take time off from editing because of some personal issues that I intend to not share. However, I will be back sometime next month. Also Thank you for explaining to me the process for accessing this important information. Good luck and keep up the good work. Altonydean (talk) 04:01, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Tim O'Doherty and @MSincccc I have made an edit to the section in the Lord Liverpool article “In government” just a minute ago. The citation lack some important information like the ISBN number, publication date, publisher and others. I wasn’t able to find any information on those details due to lack of data. If one of you can provide them it would be helpful. However this would be my last edit before I take some time off for a while due to some pressing issues that I’m currently dealing with in my personal life. However I will be back in a month or so. Until then, good luck to both of you and continue on with your great work. Much respect and kind wishes thank you. Altonydean (talk) 13:44, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Altonydean - I've taken a look and I don't think the additional information exists. Entering "A Reappraisal of the First Conservative Prime Minister" into Google and I only get 2 hits, being the PDF above and the Wikipedia article. Sorry about that. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 13:48, 15 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
That’s all right. But might I suggest, as I’m still in a state of a health diagnosis, that perhaps we should create a new article under the “Premiership of Lord Liverpool” which would be about his policies and events that happened during his tenure as Prime Minister. Altonydean (talk) 11:21, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Splitting section

edit

Although focus on this specific article seems problematic a bit, but this is the final time I’m asking about a recommendation: should we create a new article under the name of “Premiership of Lord Liverpool” by splitting the current section of that article “Prime Minister”? which would be about his policies and events that happened during his tenure as Prime Minister? Altonydean (talk) 13:15, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure if that's completely necessary, but I won't stop you if you want to. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 13:46, 25 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well, I might need some assistance. I was hoping you can be of some guidance during this process. There have been some improvements at the page the past few days which I am happy about. Altonydean (talk) 15:36, 31 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Tim, can you help me revert the Palace of Westminster image back under politics on the England page? Someone removed it and I think it should be added back. Cheers. 2A0A:EF40:E37:4201:3C34:6830:4C99:306D (talk) 23:21, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Some context: the England article is currently semi-protected because of an ownership-prone block evader active in this IP range, see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Lam312321321#25 July 2024. --Belbury (talk) 08:15, 30 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup Operation

edit

@Tim O'Doherty I was monitoring recent edits to the page Robert Jenkinson, 2nd Earl of Liverpool by users who aren’t logged on to Wikipedia and is pretty certain that the some of sources they cite are not too reliable in my opinion. I was just going to ask you to look into this matter as I am a bit incapacitated at the moment. Can you please try and fix some or just remove them if they are not reliable? If can, it would be greatly helpful as that article is full of unnecessary citations and needs a rapid clean up. Altonydean (talk) 09:32, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've done a block revert from when the problem edits began. Some decent edits will probably have been lost there as well, but they can be rescued from the edit history. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 12:02, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the confusing message, I have meant for the article 2024 US Presidential Election, where some of my sources and content were removed because of “pro-republican bias, dodgy sources and false alarming”. So sorry. Altonydean (talk) 13:17, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request to join in new article creation for Lord Liverpool

edit

@Tim O'Doherty I have gotten into creating a new page for Robert Jenkinson, 2nd Earl of Liverpool at [Premiership of Lord Liverpool] which is currently draft and I need some editors to join me in publishing and improving this page. I have some editors helping me out, but I need more experienced editors to add new content and much needed information to the page right now to improve the initial content of the page like it’s Background and context. I have added some new information there as well. Hope you and others can improve it more by joining this endeavour. Your contributions will make a huge difference to the page and to the mother page as well. Thank you. Here is the link Premiership of Robert Jenkinson, 2nd Earl of Liverpool.Altonydean (talk) 11:08, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure I'd be much use in writing the thing, but I'm always available to look over it and provide feedback if you'd like. Cheers - Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:56, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay @Tim O'Doherty your help is what matters the most. You’d be much useful in any edit since you have more experience with the encyclopaedia spanning a decade an me who started this a month ago plus I have some issues because I currently edit on a mobile device which is a bit hard to get around. Keir Starmer

@Tim O'Doherty - yes, it is mildly frustrating the entirety of my updates have been reverted, but hey-ho!

How to best go about reviewing them, one by one? (Insofar as each and every one are well founded / considered / accurate / or howsoever so may wish to so-describe..?

Hello: can't go over every single one, but will go over some major points:
  • "Southwark, London SE1, UK": I don't think this is the right styling for this, although I don't think the current one is either - "London, England" is the appropriate format, I'd say.
  • "Leader of HM Opposition": "Leader (or leader) of the Opposition" is the widely used styling, although the former isn't incorrect as such.
  • I don't object to many of the copyedits, if you'd like to keep those.
  • Not sure "shadow cabinet" should be capitalised
  • ""I got made a Queen's Counsel, which is odd since I often used to propose the abolition of the monarchy"!" - could well be the styling in the source, but exclamation mark is in the wrong place.
  • "named Starmer to be the new Head of the Crown Prosecution Service" - MOS:JOB would have this de-capped
  • A few words like "deemed" and "mused" don't seem to be exact synonyms of what they are replacing and change the meaning slightly
  • "campaign": per WP:EASTEREGG
  • "Jeremy Corbyn & Sir Keir Starmer" - should be normal text per MOS:AMP. Also not sure that Starmer's full name needs to be used.
  • "In this role, Starmer questioned Theresa May and HM Government": "her government" is probably clearer - "HM Government" makes it sound like she's a lower-ranking minister.
  • "supporting a proposed Second Referendum on Brexit": can't see the case for capitalising "second referendum"
  • London Mayor - again per MOS:JOB
  • Fixed an image to 260px: shouldn't be done per MOS:UPRIGHT
  • "HM Government" again
  • "the Government" - common noun
  • Not sure why "Partygate" and "Beergate" were de-capped
  • "Party" and "the Left" should really be lowercase
  • "Opposition Leader", "Labour Leader" and "Prime Minister" too
  • "his wife": would not do the link like this - if it has to be linked, "his wife, Victoria" might be better
  • "his predecessor, Rishi Sunak": Sunak already mentioned
  • "6 Aug 2024": should really be "August"
  • "Bills" should be "bills"
  • "Independents" shouldn't really be linked per MOS:OL
  • Pixel sizing again
Etc
It's not comprehensive, but should be enough to explain why I reverted. Hope it's useful: have a nice evening. Cheers, Tim O'Doherty (talk) 19:54, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
· *Many thanks Tim & accept/except*:
· "Southwark, London SE1, UK": I don't think this is the right styling for this, although I don't think the current one is either - "London, England" is the appropriate format, I'd say. (London SE1, UK? - *no biggie*)
· "Leader of HM Opposition": "Leader (or leader) of the Opposition" is the widely used styling, although the former isn't incorrect as such. - *your call*!
· I don't object to many of the copyedits, if you'd like to keep those - *tku*
· Not sure "shadow cabinet" should be capitalised (*it really ought to be*!)
· ""I got made a Queen's Counsel, which is odd since I often used to propose the abolition of the monarchy"!" - could well be the styling in the source, but exclamation mark is in the wrong place. – *yes remove my addition of the exclamation mark*… (it was somehow an inadvertent joke & I dunno the original qte)
· "named Starmer to be the new Head of the Crown Prosecution Service" - MOS:JOB would have this de-capped – okay as *per MOS*
· A few words like "deemed" and "mused" don't seem to be exact synonyms of what they are replacing and change the meaning slightly – dun matter – *ack yr comment*
· "campaign": per WP:EASTEREGG - *agree*
· "Jeremy Corbyn & Sir Keir Starmer" - should be normal text per MOS:AMP. Also not sure that Starmer's full name needs to be used. – *just to make the image comment match up* – not important - yr call...
· "In this role, Starmer questioned Theresa May and HM Government": "her government" is probably clearer - "HM Government" makes it sound like she's a lower-ranking minister. (some places Wiki calls it May ministry – but it was *HMG* – def not her government - sorry thought my amendment wud solve that ambiguity!)
· "supporting a proposed Second Referendum on Brexit": can't see the case for capitalising "second referendum" – np (but since there was no *“second referendum”* keep inverted commas svp…?)
· London Mayor - again per MOS:JOB – yeah but reads better since he’s known as *Mayor Sadiq Khan*…
· Fixed an image to 260px: shouldn't be done per MOS:UPRIGHT - ack
· "HM Government" again – np
· "the Government" - common noun – np
· Not sure why "Partygate" and "Beergate" were de-capped – (depends how sentence flows so not sure, defer to you…)
· "Party" and "the Left" should really be lowercase – (yeah but it’s all over the place in Wiki on this – again defer to you…)
· "Opposition Leader", "Labour Leader" and "Prime Minister" too (*official titles* – wud prefer keep any formal titles of office capitalized, (where poss) if you agree?)
· "his wife": would not do the link like this - if it has to be linked, "his wife, Victoria" might be better - *concur*
· "his predecessor, Rishi Sunak": Sunak already mentioned - *agree*
· "6 Aug 2024": should really be "August" - *agree*
· "Bills" should be "bills" – *Bills & Acts* get readily confused in Wiki – but again defer to MOS (yours!)
· "Independents" shouldn't really be linked per MOS:OL - *yes*
· Pixel sizing again - *agree*
