Fails WP:NFCC#8: not critically discussed. Stefan2 (talk) 00:38, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- I don't like that you go after every non-free image I've uploaded; here it seems you're trying to come up with a reason for deleting it after trying the not-on-an-article argument earlier. This image is the most representative image available to indicate the company's IPO and act of going public, which is discussed in depth in the article. I'm really just about done here.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 00:43, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- There is zero discussion about what it looked like when the company went public, and there is zero need for an image of this event. --Stefan2 (talk) 17:55, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- "What it looked like when the company went public"? You know what going public is, right? There's never any definitive image of it; the closest thing is the ringing of the opening bell for the first trading to begin. And that's what I've got. And the IPO is discussed in the article, so there's that. And you may say that there's no need for the image, but you're wrong. It is one of the most significant events in the company's history, and it's also useful being that there's no free image of Thomas Peterffy; this photo shows him, the company founder and current chairman and CEO. Both are elements that make this image very important and useful to readers. Neither of your arguments are valid for this, and being that the subject is discussed in the article (with the technicality that there is never any way to photograph an IPO itself), the photo easily passes WP:NFCC#8.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 20:52, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

- Keep It does not make sense to delete this image. The opening bell for when a company goes is a major event in the company's history. The criteria brought up states that "Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." A picture of the opening bell ceremony greatly increases the readers' understanding of what it means that the company went public. It is impossible to give an image of stocks trading on the stock market at that exact moment in time, so the opening bell ceremony is the next best thing. Deleting the picture would take away the readers' understanding of what it means that the company went public. PointsofNoReturn (talk) 02:01, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- Where in the article do I find sourced critical discussion of what it looked like when a lot of people were standing in front of that machine? How does a picture of people standing in front of a machine help people's understanding of what it means to hold a bell ceremony? Why can't a different picture of random people standing in front of a machine be used instead? --Stefan2 (talk) 16:19, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- I already covered this. Not including this image would be like not including an image of the Blitz or Normandy invasion in the World War II article. To the uninformed reader, sure, it may look like a group of people standing in front of a machine, but to most readers, especially ones that read the caption and relevant body text, it depicts the company's CEO actually opening his company's stocks to the public. The photo depicts the catalyst of a massive event that made the company 1.2 billion dollars and was the second-largest IPO that year.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 20:01, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
