Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Reading schedule

This reading schedule is designed to assist editors in becoming familiar with Wikipedia:Manual of Style.

Benefits

edit

Here are some ways in which you can benefit from this reading schedule.

  1. You can analyze how the style guidelines promote clarity and consistency in Wikipedia articles, and how they contribute to harmony among editors.
  2. There are many style guides.
    1. If you edit another language version of Wikipedia, then you can compare the guidelines for that language version with the guidelines for the English version.
    2. If you edit the English version of another Wikimedia project, then you can compare its guidelines with the guidelines for English Wikipedia. (See Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Style guides on other Wikimedia projects.)
    3. If you use or have used a style guide of a university or a publishing company, then you can compare its guidelines with the guidelines for English Wikipedia.
  3. As you study each guideline, you can anticipate situations where you can apply it, and you can even contrive texts for practicing it in your own workspace.
  4. You can adopt a guideline, and devise search terms for finding errors needing correction. (Compare Wikipedia:Adopt-a-typo.) Alternatively, you can select articles (either at random or from lists or categories of your choice) and correct a variety of errors in each article.
