Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Burkenburg

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the miscellaneous page below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the page's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.

The result of the discussion was Delete - while users who contribute substantially to the encyclopaedia are allowed to have some information about themselves on their userpage (somewhat under the assumption that it facilitates collaboration), Wikipedia is not a free webhost, and users who use it as such are typically not given that latitude. Sorry, eh, but if you want to host information about your band, MySpace has dedicated facilities for that. WilyD 07:49, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is an unsourced article about a band, being hosted on a Wikipedia userpage. It should probably be deleted per WP:FAKEARTICLE. Dianna (talk) 02:24, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Burkenburg (talk) 11:36, 19 January 2013 (UTC) Burkenburg here! In concern of this, I do not reckon this article which appears to be my user page, where something I should be able to write anything there, should be deleted. I have never made any claims it was famous, and it also appears to be my band. I made it so people simply can read who we are and get to know us more. People should be allowed ON their wiki user pages to be able to write anything. If you honestly think deleting this will fix problems, it will not. And because we're not famous at this point, I made it AT that location, rather than wasting my time creating it excluding "User:", when by then it would be deleted in a matter of minutes. I honestly think this is ridiculous. I should be able to write whatever I want without interruption.[reply]

"May be useful to copy and paste the article into your userspace". Implying your user page can be useful to preserve the article until it can be introduced to an actual article page. What are you doing now? Trying to delete an article which is being preserved.[reply]

Stjohnny (talk) 11:38, 19 January 2013 (UTC) They do not state they are famous, which is why they wrote it on their own account. Can't people just leave them alone?[reply]

Adbdul Dd (talk) 11:40, 19 January 2013 (UTC) They made that on their user page for a reason, where they should be freely be able to create a page which where they can store information about their band, and also for users to read about them and get a chance to listen to their music. This is rather unfair AbDul Dd (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic. [reply]

  • Delete per nom as WP:FAKEARTICLE. Burkenburg can work on the article to establish notability and then move it to the encyclopedia. However if notability is not clearly established then the article will inevitably be deleted. Sorry about that, but the encyclopedia is based on notability established by references. That's how this place works! Kleinzach 15:07, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:FAKEARTICLE. This user has the wrong idea about Wikipedia: not his fault, because we do not explain it well to new users, but it is not a webhost for people to post articles about their non-notable bands. User pages are for the volunteers, who are here to build the encyclopedia to say something about themselves and their Wikipedia work, to assist communication within the project; they are not for substantial content... that is unrelated to Wikipedia. Nor would this be suitable for a user sub-page, as there seems no prospect that they will meet the notability standard of WP:BAND any time soon, and even then their conflict of interest means they should wait for someone else to write an article. Sorry, but Myspace is the place for you to write up your band. JohnCD (talk) 22:24, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
