Talk:shrimp

The plural form "shrimp" vs. "shrimps" seems problematic. There are opinions expressed in various places that "shrimp" should be used when referring to the plural but of a single species but "shrimps" when multiple species are referred to. Is there any authority for this? Should it always be "shrimp" on a menu? Skylang 12:35, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I think it is safe to say that, on a menu, it should always be shrimp. There is no authority. Shrimps can be used to cover different species of shrimp, but I think this usage is still unusual and writers tend to get around it by using kinds/species/types of shrimp, or shrimp species, and so on. The plural shrimps is more likely to be the plural of the sense that means "small or unimportant person." —Stephen (Talk) 13:57, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
