Etymology 1
editUnknown, possibly from a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia. May be derived from Vulgar Latin *captiāre (“hunt”) with a local pre-Roman *-apo diminutive suffix.[1] Cognate with Portuguese caçapo and Catalan catxap.
