resar
See also: resår
Catalan
editEtymology
editBorrowed from Spanish rezar, from Latin recītāre (“recite”).
Pronunciation
editVerb
editresar (first-person singular present reso, first-person singular preterite resí, past participle resat); root stress: (Central, Valencia, Balearic) /e/
Usage notes
edit- In its original sense, resar meant to read an oration: hence a missa resada is a mass which is read rather than sung ("low mass"). It has come to be used in the sense of to pray, especially when referring to non-Christian religions, in preference to the verb pregar, which has taken on a more mundane sense.
