Ishkhan (fedayi)

Nikoghayos Poghos Mikaelian (1881-1915), also known as "Ishkhan" was an active leader of the Armenian self-defensive movement. He has defended the interests of the Armenians of Van, has given an impetus to education. He was killed during the Siege of Van.[1]

Legacy

The community Ishkhanasar was named in his honor.

The comment above is complete nonsense, because tha title "ishkhan" doesn't originate from the nickname of Michaelian. "Ishkhan" is ancient title that was in use from the time of Parthians and literal meaning of it is "local ruler" ("ish" - internal, local; "khan" - ruler).
