[edit]- 1836 – The Bristol and Exeter Railway receives parliamentary authorization.
- 1881 – Tracks of the Southern Pacific Railroad, building eastward from Los Angeles, California, reach El Paso, Texas.
20th century
[edit]- 1937 – The New York, Ontario and Western Railway files for bankruptcy.
- 1974
- Amtrak introduces its Expo '74 passenger train service connecting Seattle and Spokane for Expo '74.
- Amtrak renames the Texas Chief service it inherited from Santa Fe Railway to become the Lone Star due to objections from Santa Fe over Amtrak's quality of service.[1]
21st century
[edit]- 2005 – A fully loaded passenger train collides with a stopped freight train in Lampung, Indonesia; initial reports indicate at least seven fatalities and hundreds more injured.
- 2005 – Bombardier is awarded a contract to build a new automated people mover system for Beijing Capital International Airport in China. On completion, the system will be Bombardier's first system in China.[2][3]
