Barda or Golan

[edit]

The FIFA page link (the 'index' version) currently credits the goal to Golan, but that's been changed to Barda at various places around here (and there are actually a lot of them). However, I think the rules are that a deflection like that counts as the final shot (FIFA has a whole list of 'rules' that are more commonly used in determining what is or isn't an own goal). There's no point in changing it back yet, because the final match report will be the determinant of what will end up as the answer. However, I suspect that the changes have been wasted effort. Moldova has been eliminated

[edit]

For them to reach 13 points and qualify they will need to win their remaining games. However, they will need the Swiss and Greeks to lose all their remaining games. The Swiss play both Latvia and Israel. If Latvia defeats the Swiss then they will also be on 13 points. So, other than defeating the Swiss, Moldova needs Latvia to lose the rest of their remaining matches. Latvia also plays Israel. If Israel defeats both Latvia and the Swiss then they will be on 15 points, which is out of the reach of Moldova. Also, Latvia plays Greece, so either way, two teams will be above 13 points at the end of the rounds. Moldova cannot get more than 13 points. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.58.217.50 (talk) 14:09, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not so. If - MDA wins all, LUX wins all remaining, SUI wins all remaining (obviously in that order) and then ISR d LVA, and LVA d GRE the table would be

1. SUI 22. 2= MDA, GRE, LUX, LVA all 13, 6. ISR 12. Highly unlikely, but still there. Moldova don't need BOTH the Swiss and Greeks to lose all, just one of them (in this case it's Greece) Jlsa (talk) 14:23, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Israel elimination as worst runner-up

[edit]

If they lose to Moldova and Luxembourg lose to Switzerland, they can only finish runner-up if Moldova win again and force Luxembourg to be last. This would cap their total at 9 adjusted points, so allowing every group runner-up to reach 10 would eliminate them. (If Luxembourg do not lose, however, it's possible for Moldova to finish last and then Israel would have 12 adjusted points, more than enough.) This requires:

  • in Group 1: either Sweden do not lose, or Portugal and Hungary do not draw;
  • in Group 3: either Slovenia or Czech Republic win;
  • in Group 7: either of France or Serbia do not lose, or Austria win.

isreal win/draw count incorrect

[edit]

isreal should be on 4 wins 3 draws, not 3 wins four draws. This is only incorrect in the table. The "match summary" is ok, i dont know how to edit it—Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.221.30.250 (talkcontribs) 10:27, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have corrected it. MTC (talk) 10:39, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
