Citizenship, campaign site
[edit]Hassan has dual citizenship. He was born in Somalia and later became a naturalized American citizen. Article 8 of the Constitution of Somalia stipulates that "a person who is a Somali citizen cannot be deprived of Somali citizenship, even if they become a citizen of another country" (c.f. [1]). Also, New Vision For Clarkston is Hassan's official website [2], with his campaign headquarter's and manager's contact information. This is a reliable source per Wikipedia:BLP#Using the subject as a self-published_source since it is not used for claims about third parties. Middayexpress (talk) 16:49, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Middayexpress for that explanation. However, beyond the exception you cited are two caveats: (1) it is not unduly self-serving (which every campaign website is, by its very nature), and (2) the article is not based primarily on such sources (this one source accounts for 38% of the article citations, before even considering the cut-and-paste article "written" by "Super User", which is another three citations). So, how about adding a few reliable sources to this article? Now that Hassan has been elected, that shouldn't be too difficult. Also, any particular reason for deleting the portals? Gulbenk (talk) 18:59, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- The portal deletion was an accident; I've restored it. That said, BLP's caveat that the material shouldn't be unduly self-serving pertains to the material itself. The material in question is rather bland bio info about Hassan's educational background and earlier work positions, so it's not particularly self-serving [3]. The page also isn't based primarily on such sources. Also, please note that the other piece wasn't actually written by Super User; he just republished it from Crossroads News. Middayexpress (talk) 19:07, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- So...why use it? This is just reference inflation (from a totally unreliable source). Why not just use the original Champion/Crossroads article, if you must. Thanks for clearing up the portal question. Gulbenk (talk) 19:22, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- The original Crossroads link is fine; it's just that the re-published link mentions in its title that he hails from Somaliland, a specific region in Somalia [4]. Middayexpress (talk) 19:33, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
