Nice to see you at GAN! I'll take a look at this shortly. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 12:40, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Peacemaker67: A quick note to say that I haven't forgotten this! Intending to review on about 8 December when next off work. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 23:56, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Prelim

[edit]
Australian Crown copyright applies and expires worldwide, there is no need for US PD licence. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 21:28, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Earwig reports copyvio unlikely

Lede and infobox

[edit]
  • "who was a posthumously awarded"
  • "Madden served in the World War II New Guinea and Bougainville campaigns in the latter stages of that war" > "Madden served in the New Guinea and Bougainville campaigns in the latter stages of World War II"
  • Infobox differs with main text on name of place of death
  • I realise his rank is noted in the Gazette quote, but otherwise it would be useful to note it earlier on
All done. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 00:53, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Early life

[edit]
  • Is "Militia" the full name for this organisation? Reads a little awkward to me, capitalised alone
Yes it was. What is now the Army Reserve has had a number of different names over the years, but the name was intended to emphasise the voluntary nature of the service after a period where there was compulsory service.
Done. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 00:58, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Military career

[edit]
  • Do we know what he did in the Militia? 114th Australian General Hospital suggests something medical
No, but the fact he was a driver in the AIF suggests probably as a driver.
fixed, hopefull not too awkwardly.
  • "On the day Madden joined the battalion" is this 5 November or a later date?
Yes, I stuffed up the chronology, fixed now I think.
  • The name of the corps is never mentioned
US IX Corps, added.
  • Our Battle of Kapyong article says it ends on 27 April rather than 25 April?
Yes, but it ended for Madden on 25 April when he was captured, and 3 RAR were fully withdrawn before midnight on the 25th. The Canadians were then hit by the assault and kept fighting for a couple of days. Clarified.
These done I think. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 01:19, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Capture and death

[edit]
  • If you're linking captain, then private and sergeant should be too
Done.
Done.
  • "then-Lieutenant Colonel Peter Scott" this suggests we should know something about Scott, like he was later promoted or went on to do something else? Doesn't seem necessary
OK.
  • What was named after Madden? You use other ranks bar in main text and wet canteen in the lede
Same thing. Changed to the same words.
All done. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 01:23, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
