Somewhat short, not enough information
[edit]Is it a bloody fight like dog fights or cock fights? Is it as harmless as with female cows or with some bugs? How aggressive are crickets in general? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.62.2.30 (talk) 07:03, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Internet meme?
[edit]A Google search brought up lots of references, but all of them seemed as suspect as this article (filled with references to the cricket minister, etc). Telling, none of them seemed to have any information about specific fights, pictures of crickets fighting, etc. The Register often runs hoax articles. I had lots of pet crickets as a kid. I've never seen them be aggressive, nor do they seem to even be equipped for violence. I'm calling hoax. There's a reference on the Cricket (insect) page as well that should probably be deleted. - Well, excuse me. I don't think the government run Museum of Macau thinks it's a hoax, as that is where I took the illustrative picture and where they have specific displays for this part of their culture. SchmuckyTheCat 16:03, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- And if you think the Musem of Macau is a hoax, uh. Anyways, google "cricket fighting" "museum of macau" and you will find plenty of off-hand touristy remarks in blogs and such that the display exists. Such as, [1] SchmuckyTheCat 18:40, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- If by plenty you mean seven, sure. Besides, even if it does exist, it isn't necessarily notable. I've VfDed this as the tag kept being removed without discussion. Ace of Sevens 11:39, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
- Just for your reference, cricket fighting is far from a hoax. One of the classic stories (促织) in Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio described how a rural family was destroyed by the empire searching for cricket champions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 15.243.169.71 (talk) 07:40, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
If you think cricket fighting is a hoax, do a You Tube search and you will find plenty of videos of cricket fights. They usually end when one cricket retreats. Here is one example: Cricket FightDrHenley (talk) 14:38, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
More Detail
[edit]How is it that the crickets fight? Using what part of their body to inflict damage? I'm very interested in finding out how these insects could kill each other. And if a reasonable argument/explanation cannot be given I would say that the above argument would have a stronger argument. Ud pkp 2005 17:13, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- They can kill smaller insects like ants easily pinning them down with limbs and using their jaws so a drawn out fight between two crickets will result in a death
Perhaps they also kick with their hind legs? Pendragon39 04:21, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Verification
[edit]- Cricket fighting has become a popular past-time in Northern America. Although police authorities have not made it illegal to host these events, government officials are currently writing legislations to prevent further acceptance of this ever growing Chinese sport.

National tournament
[edit]Yes, it will be better once a more RS than the Daily Mail is used but (pace its reputation) it's not a bad article and more thorough than the one done by Reuters covering the same event. Kindly don't remove it pending a suitable and thorough-enough replacement. — LlywelynII 04:46, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

"blood sport"?
[edit]How can this be a blood sport when crickets don't even have blood? Seems more like sumo wrestling from the fights I've seen on-line. --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 09:02, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- I agree. In any case, it would seem impossible to draw blood (or even hemolymph) without causing injury. I've reworded the intro, changing it from 'blood sport' to 'hobby and gambling activity'. Meticulo (talk) 11:50, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
