How about adding a Personal section?
[edit]Such as birthday, hometown, family, current. etc.? I see "Biography" "class=B" listed but this is not a biography without that information, correct? TIA I would like to see some biographical information added. IrishLas (talk) 01:05, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

Neutrality
[edit]This article reads like an advertisement for Mr. Rose's potential professional career. It does not appear, by any stretch of the imagination, to meet WP:POV. --InDeBiz1 (talk) 00:35, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
my edits
[edit]He's not a "professional", nor a player for the Bulls, until he signs a contract and actually joins the team. Also, the odds for the bulls to get the #1 draft pick is irrelevant here.
"During his senior year he led Simeon past then #1 ranked Oak Hill Academy, 78-75 on national TV. That loss turned out to be Oak Hill's sole loss on the season. In that game, Rose had 73 points, 15 assists, and 22 rebounds." It is impossible for Rose to have 73 of the 78 points and 15 assists in the same game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.176.190.41 (talk) 09:50, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Measurement Edits
[edit]The official measurements are listed at draftexpress.com. His Height (with shoes) is officially 6.25 and not 6'3. His weight officially came in at 196 and not 191. I don't know if Wikipedia likes to round things up but those are his more accurate official measurements. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aka ShoNuff (talk • contribs) 19:35, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
I think 6.25 is 6'3". He's 6 feet and quarter. 25% of a foot is 3 inches. What's the problem? quixoto (talk) 05:02, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- I think (s)he meant to say the thing listed him as 6'2.25". I have never seen a stat sheet on any site representing inches as a fraction of a foot. I have never heard anyone refer to themselves, for example, as five and two-thirds feet tall. The metric system uses decimals frequently to refer to heights (1.9 meters, etc.), but that practice is never used for imperial measurements, because they are not 10-based so it would be confusing. Breaking "freshman" record held by Penny Hardaway
[edit]Rose did not break a "freshman" record held by Penny Hardaway because Penny Hardaway never played as a freshman. He had to sit out his freshman year as a Prop 48 player. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.237.156.252 (talk) 06:32, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Grading controversy
[edit]When will the current national news of his fraudulent grade controversy be added? it's only in every newspaper but of course not here
- As far as I know, the investigation is still underway. We might as well wait a little while longer until we can tell as much of the story as we can. Zagalejo^^^ 18:46, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, um, sorry but that is not the standard. There are literally thousands of investigations underway for all types of people on wikipedia, and they are all listed. They are listed to reflect the current state of the investigation, wherever it may be. to not even mention the investigation is not right. investigations do not have to be concluded in order for them to be mentioned on wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.176.14.119 (talk) 09:42, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Quick College Edit
[edit]"Strong efforts were made by the Indiana University and in-state University of Illinois to sign Rose to their own programs but Rose decided elsewere, Memphis.[28]"
Changed to ---> "by Indiana University"
The 'the' is not needed if the sentence were the "were made by the University of Indiana" it would be appropriate.

- Fixed. Thanks for catching that. Zagalejo^^^ 18:21, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
"Chicago's late push contributed to Rose winning Rookie of the Year, joining Michael Jordan (1985) and Elton Brand (2000) as the Bulls to do so." probably should be as the only Bulls to do so under Rookie of the Year.
First time reading through the article there was also another one but I can't seem to find it now.

A Bull Forever...
[edit]The introductory sentence: "Derrick Martell Rose (born October 4, 1988) is an American professional basketball player who is currently playing for the Chicago Bulls of the NBA" is presumptuous and pessimistic... he may very well, and hopefully, be a Bull forever... a better edit: Derrick Martell Rose (born October 4, 1988) is an American professional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls of the NBA
And be ready to add: MVP of 2010-2011 season... :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.197.235.115 (talk) 03:47, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- I agree that the opening sentence was rather wordy. Changed to: "Derrick Martell Rose is an American professional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA)." Dabomb87 (talk) 03:52, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
MVP
[edit]Derrick Rose was just named nba mvp. this should be added to his wikipedia biography as soon as possible —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.57.23.234 (talk) 22:30, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Career High 44 Points
[edit]On May 6th, 2011, Derrick Rose scored a career high 44 points against the Atlanta Hawks. Is this important enough to add? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jdeckert123 (talk • contribs) 07:36, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, it probably should be added eventually. Zagalejo^^^ 03:35, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Lead Rewrite
[edit]The lead to this article is lacking. It reads a being far too specific, e.g. that Rose learned basketball from his brothers. I think that the second and third paragraphs would be better suited to the body Ph8l (talk) 12:29, 11 May 2011 (UTC)ph8l
- Rose's relationship with his brothers (and mother) is a pretty important part of his life story, I think. It's OK for the lead to repeat info found in the body. Zagalejo^^^ 02:13, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

If it is to your convenience, Derrick Rose has been nicknamed the "Windy City Assassin" by former Chicago Bulls player and current WGN Sports announcer Stacey King. I, and possibly most of Chicago, would appreciate it if you could make that an addition to the Derrick Rose wiki article. I felt it would only be fair since Wade, Lebron, Pierce, Shaquille all have their nicknames up. If you need a source, I have one to provide for you.
Hope it is of no problem to you and we would really appreciate it if you could make this happen. Have a great day and God Bless.
12.20.152.195 (talk) 23:54, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Given that the site doesn't even have an about page, and doesn't appear to be a professional news organization, I'm afraid that that doesn't count as a reliable source. What we need is the original source (when/where King used the term). However, just that won't really be enough--we can't call it a real nickname unless it is widely used--just because one sportscaster used one term one time does not make it a full nickname. Qwyrxian (talk) 07:15, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
Triple Double
[edit]surely that one triple double shouldnt be on the page, whats the point of it? it's like saying 'one day he had a blue milkshake' or 'he played golf once'. not notable. maybe once somebody lists all 120+ of jason kidd's triple doubles then they can be added to other players pages, but having it randomly slapped in there is pretty stupid 124.168.104.9 (talk) 13:10, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
- Well, his first triple double is at least somewhat notable. You do bring up an interesting point, though. When a player has spent his entire pro career in the Wikipedia era, there's a tendency for people to just keep adding stuff without considering the long-term significance. At the rate we're going, the article is going to be a bit of a mess. It's a lot easier to write a good sports article when the player has already retired or is close to retiring, because then you have a better perspective on what's important. Zagalejo^^^ 03:56, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

I would like to include some information about Rose's recovery, and the date he is expected to come back to playing for the Bulls. He is currently taking full-contact in practice, and will return after the All-Star game February 17th, 2013. I would use the following as a source: http://espn.go.com/chicago/nba/story/_/id/8897736/derrick-rose-chicago-bulls-taking-full-contact-practice I think people who are searching for Derrick Rose at this time are eager to know about his recovery. Thanks Mel.atalay (talk) 06:49, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- I agree that there is interest in his return, but we don't really know too many specifics yet. It's mostly speculation at this point. Thibodeau barely says anything. At best, maybe we could say something like... "By January 2013, Rose had resumed full-contact practice." Zagalejo^^^ 07:00, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Cgates911 (talk) 00:53, 30 October 2014 (UTC) In the College section it alludes to the fact that while at Memphis they won a National Championship. It's deceptive writing and should be corrected. The sentence blends facts to offer a reference link. Memphis lost the championship to Kansas in 2007, details also not listed in terms of timeframe for easy cross referencing.

Rose's decision to remain inactive for the Bulls lead to the creation of Internet memes titled "Before Derrick Rose Returns."http://www.chicagonow.com/neil-funkmaster-flex/2012/04/derrick-rose-injury-memes/. 2015.05.14 General edits and corrections
[edit]Early Life "She feared his road to the NBA would be exploited and derailed..." This is badly written. A road isn't exploited and derailed. It should be along the lines of "She feared his exploitation by outside parties..." or "She feared he would be exploited and his path to the NBA diverted..."
High School Career "...had: no freshman on the varsity team." The colon needs to be deleted, and it should be "freshmen."
"That rule did not lessen Rose's play[,] and..." Missing comma
"...championship held at the United Center[,] where Rose starred..." Missing comma
"The team finished 33–4, nationally ranked[12] and Rose was awarded..." Change to "The team finished 33-4 and ranked nationally, and Rose..." There are 2 separate subjects, the team and Rose, and a comma is needed to divide them.
"In January 2007, Simeon traveled to Madison Square Garden in January 2007..." Get rid of one instance of "in January 2007" in this sentence.
"The Wolverines, however, lost 53–51." There is no need for "however" unless it's established that they were expected to win. For all the reader knows, Rice High School was a much better team.
"...and held Jennings scoreless in the first three quarters, 17 overall in a 78–75 win." The last clause is bad. It doesn't connect to the sentence sensibly. "17 overall" should be in parentheses or dashed ("--with 17 overall--") or removed altogether.
"...and totaled 8 assists, while, Simeon big man Tim Flowers scored 35 points." The comma between "while" and "Simeon" needs to be deleted.
College Career "..while putting pressure on Bruins' point [guard] Darren Collison to lead the Tigers to the NCAA championship game against the Kansas Jayhawks with an 85–67 victory." "Guard" is missing. "Putting pressure on..." is vague and unsubstantiated by details--Did he hold Collison to a low shooting percentage or low point output? Putting "the NCAA championship game against the Kansas Jayhawks" in the middle of a sentence about the semifinal game is clumsy and possibly confusing. Why separate the game from its score with that information? You can just write "In the NCAA Championship game against Kansas..." later on.
"...assists, but missed a critical free throw at the end of the second half, as Memphis fell..." The commas here should be deleted.
"...after averaging 20.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 6 assists." There is an Oxford comma here but not elsewhere. Use Oxford commas or don't use them, but be consistent.
"...University of Memphis' legal counsel Sheri Lipman..." Should be "Memphis's," not "Memphis.'" It's not plural.
"...previous year at Chicago's Simeon High School". The period is supposed to be within the quotation mark, not outside it--"...Simeon High School." Correct this error as it recurs in the article.
"On May 28, 2009[,] the..." Missing comma
"...based on what was available at the time, and cleared him to play." The comma is unnecessary--the second part is not a complete sentence.
NBA Career "...although Chicago had only a 1.7% chance of capturing the top pick in the draft lottery held that past May." This is utterly irrelevant to Derrick Rose and should not be mentioned in this article.
" Rose, by virtue of winning Rookie of the Year, joined Michael Jordan (1985) and Elton Brand (2000) as the only Bulls to do so." "By virtue of" is the wrong way of stating this. He couldn't join Jordan and Brand as the only Bulls to win Rookie of the Year by virtue of anything OTHER than winning Rookie of the Year. Just state it simply: "Rose won Rookie of the Year, joining Michael Jordan..."
"...(tying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's NBA record for points scored by a rookie in his playoff debut set 1970)..." "...debut, set in 1970)..."
"Rose averaged 19.7 points on 47.5% shooting, 6.3 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game in his playoff debut..." This should state "in his first playoff series" or something similar. "Debut" is one game.
"...making 15–22 field goals, and 9–10 free throws." Unnecessary comma
"...Rose set a regular-season career high with 42 points..." If this is only a regular-season career high and not an outright career high, then why was the outright career high not mentioned?
"At the age of 22 years, 6 months, Rose also broke Wes Unseld's 42-year record as the youngest player in league history to receive the award (Unseld won the award during the 1968–69 NBA season at age 23 years, 2 months)." This is a clumsy sentence. Better: "At 22 years and 6 months old, Rose also became the youngest player to receive the award. (Wes Unseld, formerly the youngest MVP, won the award in 1968-69 at age 23 years, 2 months.)" There is no need to put Unseld's name in 2 different places. Writing "42-year record" and also "1968-69" is redundant.
"He can also run the pick and roll well; contributing to his career average of 6.5 assists per game." The semicolon should be a comma.
Off the court "His agent..." That is business, not his personal life. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.180.217.73 (talk) 03:27, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

- Hi Trillfendi. Corrections welcome because I am not a lawyer. The civil case was decided, as the article states in the section Personal life. That decision was appealed and the result was the same finding.[1] California's statute of limitations is 6 years for a criminal case, so the woman has until this coming August before the matter is closed. I might add the appeal result until then. -SusanLesch (talk) 20:11, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
- Done. Also a correction, the appeal was denied. -SusanLesch (talk) 17:08, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

Weight in lead
[edit]He's a pretty well known superstar in basketball who has had some success. Seems odd the bulk of the weight in the lead is on his injuries and test scores. Not saying they shouldn't be mentioned, but its made to look as if those two things have defined his career. MavsFan28 (talk) 04:21, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

Player Profile
[edit]"He has never been a knock-down shooter from the arc, shooting 30 percent for his career." is a sentence with a lot of jargon. This should be rewritten to remove the lingo and to specifically reference three-point shooting. Example:
